2015/2016 Generation Genesis "Dislikes"

Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"

Could be a little faster, lighter, & more fuel efficient.
Transmission could be a little quicker
Sound system needs more bass.. I can't even hear the subwoofer
Heated steering wheel should be included in all Ultimate. Come on, even Sonatas have them.

I have had the opposite experience with the sound system. I find it to have a great deal of bass and extremely clear frequency response. I agree about the heated steering wheel, also the backseats. There should be nothing a Sonata can get that the Ultimate can't. Makes no sense whatsoever.

The 3.8 Ultimate can get it - with AWD ;). I'm loving my heated steering wheel and my kids love the heated rear seats!

I do regret not getting the AWD. Being in Atlanta, I didn't feel the mileage hit was worth it. Coming from a G35S, I was LUCKY to get 23 mpg on the highway. Now, I regularly get 28 mpg+. That said, it would be nice to have the AWD and all that it comes with.

I have not seen the mileage hit to be too bad (I can get ~28 mpg on pure highway legs) and, with fuel prices at current levels, luckily the hit for AWD is quite $mall at present.

UGH! Oh well, next time....glad to hear it gets such great mileage.

Nikgens statement is not that far fetched. I have been getting 20~22 mpg combined and 27~28 highway measured (slighted higher indicated). That works for me.:D

It does OK on the highway - not so great in short stop & go driving. With daily local commuting and short local trips I showed only ~17.2 mpg on my last tank (regular fuel) - did include daily remote starts when leaving work, as it's been cold, which doesn't help mpg! But at $1.70 for regular and $2.08 for premium locally, the wallet is not being hit too hard!

So, it is about 3 mpg different all around. I guess for me it was a bit psychological. I was around 17 city/22 highway before and I wanted to be in the 20s all the way around which is where I am now. And I do NOT drive conservatively by any stretch of the imagination. That said, I think the added security of AWD in crappy weather and the increased driving dynamics may have offset the 'pain' of lower gas mileage. That and the heated steering wheel, heated back seats and headlight washers!

I am one happy camper right now. With gas prices as low as they are and me having the most gaz guzzling Genesis available, I am saving more than any of you every time I fill up. :D

Only if you're gas is cheaper or you, somehow, have a bigger gas tank :D

Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"

As a previous 2012 sonata turbo owner, i thought it was time for an upgrade. Thought about a 2015 sonata, but the Genesis is in a different class.
With that said there are somethings i cant believe don't come on the genesis-signature that u get on the sonata limited such as:
1. heated steering wheel
2. rear heated seats
3. fog lights
4. electric parking brake

as cool as the puddle lights are i can do without them in place of one of the above items
and the panoramic sunroof is a pricey option that i wish was part of the tech package. as it is high tech. The ultra premium leather is not tech but should be part of the signature pkg
ps: those seat extenders are to die for in the tech pkg

The Genesis does offer the electric parking brake. I don't miss the other items.

Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"

I don't like how the display shows the "Streaming" banner crawling across the bottom the entire time you stream to it over bluetooth...it is distracting and inconsistent. None of the other input modes have a ticker tape announcing them. Is there a way to get rid of that?

Also not a fan of the voice recognition accuracy. It's comprehension is not on par with systems from Lexus and Acura.

That said, there are many more things to like about the car but these are initial weak spots for me.

I am in a unique position to give you my assessment of both cars as I recently added a 2015 Sonata Sport 2.0t to our garage. First let me say you made the right choice. If I were to have either one or the other it would be the Genesis. While the Sonata turbo is a pleasant enough car to drive it is in no way in the same league as the Genesis and it shouldn’t be considering the price difference. The Sonata is a good value and well built but even though I like the car I now remember why I never liked front wheel drive cars. While not as nimble as the Sonata the Genesis instills a more secure confidence in its handling demeanor. As for those missing features I consider them minimal considering what you get in return. Remember I'm not saying the Sonata is a bad car because it’s definitely not just not a good candidate for comparison.

my point was all those features come with sonata limited turbo
for 9000 less than my genesis. they are all available on the gene you just have to get the awd and the tech pkgs.

The BMW 535i doesn't have backup camera or parking sensors and it is $10,000 more than the genesis. Sometimes, the world is a weird place....

What were they thinking?

Hey guys, new member here, just got my 2015 Genesis V6 with Signature in Empire Gray.

There are a few things about it that are really getting to me and I can't understand why they programmed it this way. Is there anything I'm missing here?

1) Drive Mode doesn't save preference.
Why do I have to press the drive mode twice each time I get into the car to get to Sport Mode? Shouldn't it remember my preferences?

2) Heated seats don't save preference.
Every other car I've driven with heated seats stays on when you turn the car off and on.

3) SiriusXM always starts on channel 0 when starting the car.
Why?

4) Car always starts in split-screen Nav mode and doesn't show all the audio information like artist.
I don't need Nav most of the time

5) My Media will only copy 1 song at a time from the USB drive.
6 Gb of storage and I have a thousand songs to copy 1 at a time?

Am I missing something?

Re: What were they thinking?

Why would you be driving in sport mode ALL OF THE TIME???

I never have owned a car or truck with heated seats that stay on when the car is shut down (and I have owned a lot of cars). That is just plain silly.

My XM started on the last chosen channel, but I do have the Ultimate and that may differ. With 30GB of space for the music I like, I discontinued XM anyway.

Again, with the Ultimate, my media will copy as many songs as are on the USB drive in one operation. I have about 1200 songs in my 30GB and I put them in about 5 artists or about 100 songs at a time.

Re: What were they thinking?

Schedule a service visit. I have an ultimate edition and 3, 4 & 5 are not issues which exist in my car. 1 & 2 are pretty industry standard. Sport mode does nothing but decrease fuel economy if you ask me. It makes the shift points higher.
