2015/2016 Generation Genesis "Dislikes"

Re: What were they thinking?

Why would you be driving in sport mode ALL OF THE TIME???

Because it's his car and he may like sport mode

The inability to remember settings is a miss and hopefully will be enhanced in updates. With the level of technology in this car, the ability to set preferences and have them apply for that driver should be expected.

Re: What were they thinking?

With my son's 2013 Honda Accord the seat heater button stays in the same position when you turn the car off - so if your seat heaters were on, they shut off when you turn off the car (you wouldn't want to run down the battery) but when you restart the car, they will be on (you don't need to switch them on). Very nice in cold weather.

I never have owned a car or truck with heated seats that stay on when the car is shut down (and I have owned a lot of cars).

Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"

we have been having very cold temps in the Northeast and one of my dislikes is ,once the front end of the car has ice or snow the sensor will not stop beeping at one point it actually stayed on the whole day and had an (!) on the dash, so I brought it in for service and they reset the computer. Now seems to be back to normal

Re: What were they thinking?

Why would you be driving in sport mode ALL OF THE TIME???

I never have owned a car or truck with heated seats that stay on when the car is shut down (and I have owned a lot of cars). That is just plain silly.

My XM started on the last chosen channel, but I do have the Ultimate and that may differ. With 30GB of space for the music I like, I discontinued XM anyway.

Again, with the Ultimate, my media will copy as many songs as are on the USB drive in one operation. I have about 1200 songs in my 30GB and I put them in about 5 artists or about 100 songs at a time.

I was kinda hoping for answers, not comments on the way I like to drive. I like Sport Mode because the throttle is more responsive. I'm not asking about heated seats when the car is off, I want them on when I turn on the car if that's the way I left them when I turned the car off. My 2005 Hyundai Santa Fe had this. My 2007 Hyundai Sonata had this. My 2013 Infiniti G37X had this. My 2012 Toyota Highlander has this. Should I go on?

Re: What were they thinking?

Hey guys, new member here, just got my 2015 Genesis V6 with Signature in Empire Gray.

There are a few things about it that are really getting to me and I can't understand why they programmed it this way. Is there anything I'm missing here?

3) SiriusXM always starts on channel 0 when starting the car.

This is due to a bug in the Entertainment system. If the car can't talk to the Mothership during initialization, it will default to channel 0. I assume you are parking in a garage where you don't get signal.

Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"

I believe that the drive setting defaults back to normal because of the snow setting. Otherwise once you put it in snow mode, you'd need to take it out of snow mode each time. I think snow should have had its own button. Seems silly but my 2013 Explorer also defaults to normal from one of 4 drive settings.

Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"

It's also based on the EPA mileage testing. If it defaults to normal mode, they get to test the car in normal mode. If it stays in sport mode once set, they'd have to average the best and worst modes. Sport mode holds lower gears fairly aggressively, and can significantly decrease mileage. I suspect the average of sport and eco modes would be lower than normal mode.

Some "dislikes":
  • I miss my auto heated/cooled seats. I left my Lincoln LS seats set to auto, and it would cycle the heat or cooling function as necessary based on temperature. I never had to touch the heated/cooled seat buttons.
  • If they insist on using a filament bulb for the DRL in the USA, they should have made the bulb easier to replace. Burning the major filament of a dual-filament bulb constantly is going to significantly reduce the bulb's life. I believe you have to remove the diagonal brace to get the bulb out on at least one side. These braces are a structural part of the vehicle and also part of the crumple zone. I've seen improper torquing of these braces on other vehicles affect ride quality, and it could also affect the function of the crumple zone. Their removal should not be required to change a light bulb.
  • The sensitivity of the auto headlights and day/night gage settings. When driving on a country road in sunny weather, it'll turn on the headlights and dim the gages almost every time I pass under a tree (shady, but still bright daylight). My first car with auto headlights was like this in 2002, but I figured they would have improved after 13 years. With all the other technology in this car, it should be able to tell whether it's day or night. This is about the only time I'd normally have he DRLs on (so people in the other lane don't try to pass without seeing me), but instead I just keep the headlights on.

Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"

Strange. The headlights in my 2009 Genesis went on and off passing through shady places, but my 2015 never does that. It was one of the first improvements I noticed when I first bought the 2015.

Same with my 2011.

Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"

Other desires:

  • I like the thigh extender on the seat, but I'd prefer the entire seat cushion to slide out (like my CL55). I have the extender all the way out, and this leaves a gap in the seat. It's not quite an uncomfortable gap, but I can feel it. Also, this results in a large portion of the seat bottom not being heated/cooled. While we're on the topic of seats, I wouldn't mind adjustable bottom cushion bolsters.
  • Although it's been mentioned before, I would like to be able to remote start/roll down windows from the keyfob. I'm not allowed to bring my phone in to work, so the phone-based start isn't an option during the hottest part of the day when I leave work. Although the range is longer with the app, it's also more cumbersome than pushing a single button on the fob. My fob will reach my car from inside my home, so range isn't an issue for me.
I do have a couple of ideas about why the heated seats don't start with autostart. Most buttons in the car show up on one of the two displays (between the gages, on the touch screen, or both), but the seats don't show up on either screen. This makes me think that they may not be controlled by the software at all.

I've also noticed that the app starts the front defroster but not the rear. Everything that comes on with the remote start probably comes on at the same time as the car is trying to start. This would place a large load on the battery while trying to start the car. They could delay the accessories until after the engine is at idle, but that would be more code for something that isn't likely to be the deciding factor that keeps someone from buying the car.

There are always going to be things that I'd like (no car is perfect), but most of them aren't things for which most people would pay extra or that would affect sales.

Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"

I too love the vehicle but have a problem with keeping my feet warm on the very cold days we've been having. The force of hot air directed to your feet is very light. I thought is was just my new vehicle but went into another with the same result.

Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"

Radio knobs should be different size from a/c knobs. Fog lights must be standard. Passenger a/c flow can't be turned off. Car should lock
up when driver walks away. Trunk posterior wall is too flat and internal weld (?) spots create unevenness at both sides of the plate. Future facelift may include a different profile of the trunk wall around license plate. Armrest should be a single door not double. Brakes feel spongy, but has less than 400 miles. I think is a well made car at a price that will affect the sleep of some CEO from status symbol brands. My observations, like those from others, have the objective of improving future Genesis. I'm the owner of a 2002 BMW 530 and a 2011 Corvette and this car has a classy look and a ride that match its size and style.

Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"

I also have less than 400 miles, and I completely agree on the radio knobs and the temperature control. I guess the thinking is you'd use the volume on the steering wheel, but early on into the ownership, those things aren't intuitive to me yet, and I've probably reached for the wrong one 7-8 times now. On the flip side, a mini wheel for the volume on the steering wheel is much better than the buttons on the first gen; it allows for more finite control over volume adjustments.

I think Hyundai has a couple of minor regressions when it comes to the DIS knob. I prefer the larger DIS knob in the 1st generation. I also prefer the back button at the 12 o'clock position and distinctive in its shape as opposed to the "8 O'Clock" position with the other buttons.

Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"

I know this is extremely nit-picky, but the two things I don't like are:

1. The door handles are no longer padded or "soft." In my 2009 Genesis 4.6, all four door handle grips are covered in leather and are padded. When you grab the door handle grip to close the door, you're like, "Ahhhh that feels nice and luxurious." Same thing exists in the 2007-2012 Lexus ES 350. Anyway, in the 2015 Genesis, the door handle grabs are hard plastic and feel junky and cheap.

2. The vents in the dash are not symmetrical. Take a look at an interior picture. The two center vents aren't even identical-yet-inverted versions of each other; they're actually different sizes and shapes. Next, compare the two center vents to the two outboard vents - the two outboard vents sit lower on the dash. It looks stupid, asymmetrical, and crooked. Just not a fan of the new interior, period.
Dash vents in Audi aren't symmetrical either.

Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"

1. No Default "sport" or "eco" mode.
2. No Default "auto hold"
3. Car Parts Are Painted Separately - if you look closely you can see changes in how metallic the gas cap vs back bumper vs body is.
4. The Prompt each time I start the car

Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"

Would like to be able to have choice of default drive mode. So when I start the care it's in my favorite mode..

Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"

  • I've been testing out LKAS when possible and I think it has great potential, but there is some room for some software tweaking. For example, if you're driving on a road where a left turning lane forms next to you, LKAS will oftentimes (and sorta surprisingly at first) turn to the left even when your intention is to go straight. It's like it picks a lane marker (paintings or line on the road) and tries to follow that line. Perhaps tuning the algorithm so that the system chooses to follow the line which has the lower delta to the current heading might improve things, and in the case where one lane marker seems to "disappear altogether", follow the lane marker that's there.
  • Another perhaps related condition is that when it detects the onset of the curve, in conditions I haven't been able to entirely isolate, the initial turn-in for the curve is much sharper than it should be for the curve.
  • I've also seen cases where the steering won't correct a impending lane departure (until too late at which point it may or may not recover), but the LDWS will detect and sound the alert for the correct side. I thought out loud, "Well, if you know I've just departed or am straddling a lane and just warned about it, why didn't LKAS correct it before a pre-departure condition became a post-departure condition?"
  • Structurally, the car seems stiffer in the front than it does in the rear. I would be curious how much the panoramic moonroof affects torsional rigidity. Don't get me wrong, I love the panoramic moonroof, but I think the car needs a bit more reinforcement from the middle to the rear of the car.

Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"

1. Heavy
2. No DRLs
3. No split screen mode with the 9.2" screen. For the ppl who need to know the music info, while in Navi screen. You can set the screen in the instrument and RPM, to music mode.
4. I like to drive close to the outside lanes and the lane depature warning is always trying to bring me back to the middle. lol
5. If I close the sunroof, I would like it to close the sunroof shade as well.
6. The gap between the thigh extender is a little too deep.
7. Android Wear voice command would work with my Moto360.
8. When i remote start my car, i wish it wouldnt move my seat up till i got in the car.
9. Able to close the trunk by hand.
10. Wanted V8 Ultimate
11. Wanted White on Black
12. My Hyundai dealership looks like a used car dealership. LOL

It is still a great car!!

Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"

I wish they would have added an unlock button to the rear exterior door handles.

2 - it has DRL's - just not LED DRL's
5 - if you hit the close shade button it does close both the sunroof and the sunshade
6 - if the gap was shallower, the the cushion would have to be thinner which would not be as comfortable?
8 - the seat does not move forward until you get in the car and close the door after remote starting
9 - why? It's easier and no need to slam shut by using the button?
10 - so why didn't you buy the V8 Ultimate?
11 - so why didn't you buy white on black?
