    If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

2015/2016 Generation Genesis "Dislikes"

Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"

Took delivery only last night but have found a few small dislikes so far:

1) Touch points for my elbows (especially the center armrest) are not padded enough.

2) Also the steering wheel could have been a little thicker for better grip.

3) The audible greeting when first starting the car sounds cheap somehow. I hope there is a way to turn that sound off...

4) I have to manually engage the auto hold function every time I turn the car on, would be nice if it remembered the last setting...

Ok so the audible greeting (#3) can be turned off, that is great but today as I was driving to work Automatic Emergency Breaking gave me the error message and adaptive cruise stopped working because I think snow has started to cover the radar plate. It wasn't snowing very hard and it was probably the time I would need the AEB the most due to decreasing visibility and slippery road conditions. It would be nice if the radar could continue to operate regardless of the weather conditions. Perhaps better placement of the radar module would help?

Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"

I can't speak to the reflection coming off the hod of the vehicle you drove. I have a 2015 5.0 with the Ultimate package. However, I'm only 5'9" and don't see the reflections.

As for the lag, I test drove a 3.8 AWD and YES, the lag in transmission shift is horrid. It's a little worse than the lag I experienced in my 2012 5.0 R-spec.

The new 5.0 has very little if any lag.

Speaking to the sight out of the rear window, it's typical of most of the newer sedans. A great reason to go with the Ultimate Package with blind spot warning. When activated, if you put on your directionals and try to change lanes when there is a vehicle in the blind spot, a warning indicator chimes, LOUDLY and the hepatic feedback on the steering can not be ignored.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
First off, I love the car and plan on buying one once it becomes more of a buyer's market. I could write more than most would want to read on what I liked. Having said that, there were a few small things that I thought could have been better.
1. Rear view visibility. The sight lines out the back were very limited.
2. Hood rigidity near the windshield. I drove a black 3.8 Tech AWD on a sunny day and the reflection off the flapping trailing edge of the hood got really annoying. I'm a tall guy (6'5") so maybe it is below the view of most drivers, but it was annoying to me. Afterward, I popped the hood to take a look. The reinforcing ribs on the inside of most hoods (that provide rigidity) were only present in the front corners. As a result, the rest of it is considerably floppy. I plan to test drive another color as I expect Black on a sunny day was the worst case scenario.
3. Throttle response*. The asterisk is because my drive was limited and I only squashed the gas a few times, but when I did, it seemed like there was a deliberate delay before the acceleration came on. The acceleration seemed fine, though. Maybe this is something that improves or goes away as the computer learns my driving style? Hope so...
4. Not so much a dislike as a concern. The under body panels are not made of typical plastic. Instead, they look like some sort of pressed non-woven material. I'm guessing it is for sound dampening and I'm sure it was tested, but the materials engineer in me isn't buying the long-term durability.
Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"
Only had my 5.0 Ultimate a few days but already hate the voice recognition, especially for navigation. Wish one of the many manuals had a logic tree of available commands and sytax. "FM Radio 106.3" doesn't work but "FM 106.3" does. Would also have liked adaptive headlights and heated rear seats. Oh well, compared to all the great features these are minor.
Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"
Maybe it's just that I haven't figured it out yet, but the fact that the Genesis Ultimate stereo doesn't seem to recognize playlists on USB, or have a way to "play all by artist" is increasingly annoying. I like being able to shuffle play everything by a particular artist when I want, instead of just always playing a specific album.
On that note about the Lexicon. Compared to my 2012 Lexicon, 2015 does not sounds as good at all. Highs are less clear, creating a tinny sound to instruments. The base is not nearly as deep a range. And the base is equalized to a higher frequency (say 125-400 hertz), causing it to boom in a muddy sounding way.
Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"
I can't compare it to the previous gen, but I think it sounds pretty good for a car system. Of course the first thing I did was flatten the EQ, etc. It was way off when delivered. It still doesn't compare to my home system, but it is probably the best sounding car system I have heard.
Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"
^^^ agreed... It still is amazing. You ought to hear a 2012 too... Even better. :) guess now I was spoiled. [emoji41]
Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"
So I figured out a way to do "Play all by artist" and still have album separation. Instead of keeping subfolders for albums, I brought all the songs out into the folder per artist. I can select an album from the database views, or I can shuffle all by artist from the folder view. Still wish I could do multi artist playlists.
Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"
^^. Good idea. Thanks for solution.
Did you switch it from "surround" to stereo in the settings? Mine was awful prior to that. Also had to lower the fronts a bit. Base is def a weak spot of the system.
Thanks for tips. Did those already. DVD audio sounds great with surround on. Sounds great with Star Trek Into Darkness while watching, too... Otherwise, no...
Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"
It was a really nice day yesterday so i drove with all my windows and sunroof open. I do not like that the rear windows dont roll ALL the way down. :(
Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"
Dislikes: Cheap plastic paddle shifters and the instrument cluster and plastic shield seem a little cheap.
Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"
oh and one more.......I don't think the rear styling is in the same league as the front view, in fact, the rear styling looks more economy car than high end car.
I agree. This would be ripe for the aftermarket for an aluminium paddle shifter replacements.
Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"
The slick looking keyfob buttons are too easy to press inadvertently, even with nothing else in my pocket or attached to the fob. All of my other fobs have had soft rubber buttons recessed into the face, and have required significantly more effort/distance to press. I'll probably see if they can program the keycard during my first service.
I haven't experienced that problem. I'm not sure I really want to know, but just what part of your anatomy is poking the buttons?
Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"
I could send you a picture, but it would be a big file. ;)
If the buttons face outward, I think my hand may hit them as I walk. I normally try to face them inward, but the fob may move around as I move or my thigh may be enough to activate them. It happens most when I'm detailing the car, but I've also looked out my window and seen my trunk open from inside my apartment.
I've considered putting the fob into the small change pocket, but this is very close to the pocket where I keep my phone, and my phone does interfere with the fob.
I did have my house key (a magnetic fob; not shaped like a standard key) attached to my car fob, but even when I removed it I still had inadvertent activations.
I keep mine in my watch pocket. I also insure when buying shorts that they come with one as well. Works awesome and never had a false open. As noted above, must keep cell phone away.
Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"
I don't understand why Hyundai CHEAPED OUT with the directional/DRL combo in the 2015 Genny 5.0 Ultimate package. With a car that's aiming to compete with the likes Lexus, Audi and BMW, why in heck didn't they go for an LED bar assembly? To use an 1157 style bulb with a filament just makes no sense. Ant to go a step further, they surround the headlight with an led eyebrow that is nothing more than decorative. This should have contained much higher power LEDs and then it would function as the DRL. Speaking of the eyebrow light, why does it only function when you have the headlights on? Someone at Hyundai needs to get on the ball. I love the car and in way out preforms my 2012 R-Spec sedan, but the little things are killing it.
