2015/2016 Generation Genesis "Dislikes"

Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"

I love my Genesis. I really do. I bought it for the technology as well as the "aka-Audi-come-Aston Martin" styling. The front is stupendous in its aggressive looks. The sidelines very attractive. I think the back end didn't work out so well. Perhaps they could have done more like the new Lincoln in the way it has the full width tail lamps. Something more unique. It should have at least had some extra chrome work at the top line of the trunk under the "H" badge (or Genesis wings if one changes) or perhaps at the closingg edge of the trunk lid.

Technology wise, what I dont understand and a couple of additions I would like to see are:

1) allowing bluetooth to display phone text messages on the screen and audio replay like Mercedes do.
2) Allow Blue link to make more personal; adjustments like; switching heated seats on and off, select radio station etc
3) As the car has the "crash warning" and the auto brake in cruise mode, combine these so you can have auto brake in any mode (not just with cruise).

Does anyone know with its wifi and app system, does this allow Hyundai engineers to develop new or modified apps to provide such things so they could be downloaded to the car? And if so, is this sort of 'upgrade" likely?

With regards to number 3. I’m a little vague as to which package includes the “Auto Stop” feature could be from the Tech package on but there is an “Auto Stop” feature always active if setup that way in configuration.

Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"

Hi Ernie..... I hope you are right but I don't think so. When I am driving too fast approaching another vehicle, I get the "crash warning" on my heads up display with an audio signal, but it does not automatically brake like it would if the active cruise was on. Ive tried most thing in settings and it doesn't activate. I will try again. The car is fully optioned.

Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"

Thank you for that. But I spoke to Hyundai and they say, this system only applies when cruise is active. What do you think? Have you tried it on your car?

Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"

This refers to "Electronic Control Suspension" (ECS). Is this the system that is only available on the 5.0 liter? Maybe that's why it doesn't "exist" on the V6? no?

Completely untrue. I have a 3.8 Ultimate and I can tell you that the warning is the precursor to full on braking. It does not apply the brakes until the VERY last moment to allow you time to react on your own. In ACC mode, it DOES apply the brakes in a normal manner because it expects you to depend on it to stop. For AEB, it is a safety net and very last resort.

AEB has only come on once or twice and it is ABRUPT and very dramatic. Works as intended.

Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"

That's great Mark......

I have not been in an emergency situation yet so the only time I have tried is "intentional" and, human nature takes over and I am manually braking. I am pleased to hear that the car has this feature. Not that I want to be in an emergency but I look forward to seeing it actually kick in autonomously.

Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"

The V-6 most certainly has a lag in throttle response. At least the 3.8 AWD that I test drove did. Yes, it sucks. Not only does it have terribly slow response time due to transmission settings but it's as noisy as hell under hard acceleration.

For these reasons, I went for the rear wheel drive 5.0 ultimate.
No lag in shifts of acceleration and considerably more quiet.

First off, I love the car and plan on buying one once it becomes more of a buyer's market. I could write more than most would want to read on what I liked. Having said that, there were a few small things that I thought could have been better.

1. Rear view visibility. The sight lines out the back were very limited.

2. Hood rigidity near the windshield. I drove a black 3.8 Tech AWD on a sunny day and the reflection off the flapping trailing edge of the hood got really annoying. I'm a tall guy (6'5") so maybe it is below the view of most drivers, but it was annoying to me. Afterward, I popped the hood to take a look. The reinforcing ribs on the inside of most hoods (that provide rigidity) were only present in the front corners. As a result, the rest of it is considerably floppy. I plan to test drive another color as I expect Black on a sunny day was the worst case scenario.

3. Throttle response*. The asterisk is because my drive was limited and I only squashed the gas a few times, but when I did, it seemed like there was a deliberate delay before the acceleration came on. The acceleration seemed fine, though. Maybe this is something that improves or goes away as the computer learns my driving style? Hope so...

4. Not so much a dislike as a concern. The under body panels are not made of typical plastic. Instead, they look like some sort of pressed non-woven material. I'm guessing it is for sound dampening and I'm sure it was tested, but the materials engineer in me isn't buying the long-term durability.

I don't understand did you see my last post concrerning this topic ?
Why would you believe anyone more then the manual that was written for the car.
Did you attempt the proceedure as outlined in the manual ?
If you did and it still doesn't work as described then there is something wrong ( i doubt that).
My car has car has done it successfully two times faster then I could have without the criuse on.
I have also gotten wrong information from phone people at Hyundai but not so far from the manual.

Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"

Major DISLIKE ..... after having flown F16s and F22s, I guess I'm spoiled by properly functioning heads up displays. Damn ... I bit the bullet and purchased my 2015 Hyundai Genesis 5.0 Ultimate package with the heads up display, expecting a similar display.

Oh, SH_T .... No pilot worth his salt would fly without using polarized lenses.
Try that with you Hyundai and the Heads Up Display goes completely dead ... so to say.
You can not see the heads up display at all when wearing polarized sun glasses.

In my opinion, this is a major screw up on the part of Hyundai

huh?..... I just said "thank you" to you and explained that I am pleased to hear from you that the car has this feature...????

To clarify, I have not had the experience of the autonomous braking, only the warning. Probably because non of my situations were true emergency conditions. Only after NOT experiencing the auto braking did I ring someone at the dealer (who obviously gave me wrong advice). You then explained it only does it "in the last moments" so when I tried to replicate, I ended up braking myself before the car did.

If you really need it simply tilt your head at a slight angle to see it w/ p lens.

Yes to elaborate I’ve only had it come on in two instances where an object ( A dog came out between parked cars and somebody backed out of a driveway very fast ) was in front of me very fast. I would not under any circumstances attempt to test its validity. So as long as the option is set that’s all you can do and hope it never comes to that. By the way it’s consistent performance under tests is one of the things that contributed to the top safety rating the car has earned.

My wife's RWD v6 has scary quick throttle response. Even with the best autocross driving manners, I find her car a half-block ahead of other traffic after taking off from a stoplight. And any accelerator pressure at all will chirp the tires. It was much quicker in response than the V-8's we tested. Must be variation in adjustment. Congrats on your V-8: nice ride.

Your assessment of the HUD and polarized light is spot-on. But, I am not aware of any HUD on any car by any mfr that does not used polarization as part of the display tech; that's one reason I did not like the first one I saw in 2002 and all thereafter. Hyundai has one of the best HUD info content support that I have ever heard of in a car. In any case, someone correct me if I missed the news of breakthrough, but this is not Hyundai's screw-up; this is the tech used. Surprised that it was a surprise to you. I avoided it even though I thought the content was pretty darn great. Personal choice for each of us.

The HUD in my 2011 535xi was "mostly" visible with polarized glasses on, but did disappear or fade depending on the angle I was looking forward. I will say the content was much more limited and it was monochromatic (something I believe they changed for 2012)

Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"

That is not correct.

In fact the FAA recommended pilots do not use them as they may be useful for reflected light from horizontal surfaces such as snow, they can also reduce or eliminate the instruments that incorporate anti-glare filters and they can "...also interfere with visibility through an aircraft by enhancing striations in laminated materials and sparkle of light that reflects off shiny surfaces such aircraft’s wing or windscreen, which can reduce the has to react in a “see-and-avoid” traffic situation."

It is not a screw up and is standard in all HUD units. Until HUD's stop using LCD and move to LED and OLED displays, thats the way it is.

Not that hard to keep a non-polarized pair of sunglasses in the car. Plenty of good options.
