2015/2016 Generation Genesis "Dislikes"

Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"

Yep. Used a friends X5 a while back that had it. Was so bad, clunky and hesitant that I shut it off.

Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"

I wish the steering wheel was thicker and I like wood at the top. I'm coming from a Chrysler 300 with the Hemi, and I always loved the feeling of the thick steering wheel. I may try and find a SW from a wrecked Genesis and have it custom made, if it can be done and still keep the heated function.

After owning the car for 2 weeks, the honeymoon stage is wearing off a bit and the steering wheel thickness and spongy brake feel are my biggest complaints.

At first I preferred a true 3-spoke sporty steering wheel, but I've gotten used to the shape quickly (previous car was Audi A5). Just wish the overall rim and bolster grips at 10 & 2 were thicker.

The brakes work well, but I'm just not used to having the extra pedal travel required for initial bite. Obviously it's not fair to compare to my previous A5, but I also had an Infiniti Q50 9 months ago that had a much more aggressive brake pedal.

Other than that, I stil love the car and look forward to any commute I have. Very comfortable and capable handling for such a large sedan. The V6 is much smoother and effortless than I could have imagined.

If you get something like that custom made - and it works - you should consider reproducing and selling it here in the community...

Should of got the V8 lol. The Q50 doesn't hold a candle to the power the V8 pushes out. The stopping power, hm, the Q50 is lighter with Brembos so it'll stop a tad sooner than the Genesis.

I'm glad you compared it with a Q50, because I raced the hybrid "S" version the other day heading over to a Nissan dealership to look at a GTR they just inventoried.

He had upgraded wheels/tires intake, exhaust and lowered. I'm lowered with upgraded wheels/tires. We both mashed it behind the dealership, he took an initial lead due to the weight difference, but then the big V8 caught up before the quarter mile ended. I beat him by almost 2 car lengths before backing off ;)

Funny you asked....

I found a company to make the wheel thicker by adding more rubber and recover in leather. Cost is about $300. I wanted wood on the top, but they would have to cut out that section to do so and I would lose the heated steering wheel. So I may go with just thickening it up. I'm guessing the heat element might not be as strong with the extra rubber, but any heat during the winter months is still a plus.

Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"

I wonder if I am the only one bothered by the creaking sounds coming from the door jambs when driving over any sort of bump, crack, seam or other common uneven surfaces. Seems like the body flexes too much. My 2004 Mitsubishi Galant GTS is rock solid, silent and bounds easily over undulations while the Genesis seems to crash into them with a shudder. I also recently rented the latest Chrysler 300s and it too was rock solid and light on its feet - and in fact a surprisingly impressive car!

Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"

Why is the horn sound so damn wimpy? It's just like the one on my first new car, a 1970 VW bug! It's so comical I'm embarrassed to blow it when needed. Beep beep!

I don't have this issue. Have you had it checked out? Try another Genesis at your dealer and see if it's the same. On a side note, my 2011 Sonata had an "embarrassing" horn. It sounded like they stole one from a moped.

I don't know if I'd use the word "wimpy", but I agree it's not the deep throated horn one would expect from a 4300 pound car. It reminds me of when I had an accident years ago in my old Jag XJ and the collision shop didn't reconnect one of the two horns - just sounded like - well, half a horn :)

I have this complaint too. But I only hear this kind of stuff over the bigger road (zebra) bumps.

I have this option in my genesis finest edition in Korea.

Agreed. It only saves pennies on gas per year - which you end up losing on the back-end plus even more due to early failure of starters courtesy of the greatly increased usage.

My Q50 was the base model, only the Sport model have Brembos. Agreed that the Q50 is much lighter than the Genesis, but overall they are very comparable cars. The V8 is out of my price range, and these days I need AWD because I am sick of swapping out winter wheels on RWD cars (did it for 12 years).

I'm planning on still buying winter tires/wheels, as the AWD and snow tires should make my Genesis a ferocious tank during the winter.

I did this with my 2013 AWD Chrysler 300 with the Hemi V8 and I was a beast in the winter. Unfortunately, Chrysler stopped making the AWD Hemi, and only give the AWD to the V6 like our cars.

Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"

1. No stop/start function, I was really surprised.
2. No 3d option for gps

Version 10.0 of the navigation software gets 3D maps. I believe you can get a free upgrade with the base system (smaller screen/no jog dial), but not with the Ultimate (9.2" screen/jog dial). Check www.MyHyundai.com to see if you have a message about the free update.

Version 9.5 also has 3D. The AA/CP update will include that for Non-DIS systems.
