If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. 2015/2016 Generation Genesis "Dislikes"

$500 ea. doesn't seem that bad... I thought they were more like $700.
I have seen some OEM active shock for less than $400 each online. The prices seem to be falling. However, there are some more expensive ones as well depending on the part number. Weird, I will just buy the cheaper part number replacements. I think that the really cheap $200 shocks are just the normal shocks that fit per the diagrams.

2016 Owner here and after 2 years of ownership here are my main gripes

  • The auto-hold being required to be toggled every time instead of tied to braking on like many other luxury vehicles
  • Drivers mode not remaining in the last set position (I would like to be able to leave it on eco or sport instead of having to toggle it every time)
  • With the Bluetooth/Android auto-sync behavior, the wait time for your phone to pair is really long and never seamless I typically have to wait a minute or 2 for it to pair before I can resume playing audio and I have to hit the media button every time. The same thing with android auto, even if my phone remains connected every time the car starts I have to manually select android auto or hit the media button to play Bluetooth audio.
  • Sunroof rattle along with overall fit and finish just lots of creaks groans and rattles that I didn't have when I owned a Lexus LS
  • Brakes and rotor warping, not sure if it's just my driving style or the brakes but my brake life and rotor warping is pretty significant compared to other vehicles I have owned.

Agree on the Auto Hold as I use it every time.

I thought you could leave it in ECO mode but never use it so memory may not be right.

The EPA regulations require the default start be in the mode used for the EPA testing or better, so not Sport.

I have to agree with you that I do find that I hate that the drive modes and auto brake hold resets at start-up. However, I do not have the brake rotor warping issue or the sunroof rattles.

To be honest; the sunroof could have been fixed before I bought the car used in 2018, because I did notice on my CarFax that it did have a couple of service visits early on to replace the radio and address noise concerns. Now my car is very quiet.

ECO mode resets at start-up. I know because it is my favorite drive mode. I have to engage it at start-up every time I drive the car.

I bought my 2015 genesis sedan used in February 2020. It's V-8 Ultimate. I recently had an issue where a bank of injectors had to be replaced, and then the shop found that the wiring harness had wires in the trunk where they were crushed, and several wires broken. So they replaced the wiring harness. 3 weeks and $2300 later if finally got my car back.

Has anyone else here had any issues like this? I thankfully had a dealer warranty, which helped, but still a lot of $ out of pocket. I love my car and won't part with it, unless there are issues like this again.

I repaired the trunk wire harness myself with butt connectors and shrink wrap tubing. It only cost me about $20 for a pack of metal connectors and shrink wrap tubing.

No issue with my fuel injectors in my 2015 5.0 as of yet.

Haven't had any real problems w/ my 2015 5.0 Ultimate. Other than the battery going out & and taking the alternator with it.

Other stuff has been mainly "consumables" like brake pads & rotors. The only real glitch is that my driver's side front parking sensors seem to have bitten the dust. I'll have the dealer diagnose it when I go in for the ABS recall. I plan to relocate the trunk wiring harness sometime soon, before it becomes problematic.

Good idea to relocate the trunk harness before it fails. If you rarely use your trunk then it may take a long time before the wires break; however the taillight can go out anytime without warning when the wires do break. Luckily I noticed the taillight issue in my car before a police officer did.:)

So far the Genesis is pretty reliable as luxury cars go. The issues I had has been minor.

I just swapped my own 20A and 25A ABS fuses and so far no issues for a month now. My brake fluid reservoir is full so no brake fluid leaks and my brake lines do not look rusty; so I assume my ABS unit is fine as well. I will do an current draw test to make sure it is not having an internal electrical issue for piece of mind.

Glad no one else had had a serious issue like mine. I had no idea the trunk wires were crushed and broken in mine since they were hidden behind the trunk lining. Good for you for those with enough know how to relocate the trunk wire harness. Overall I love my car, just wanting to get a sense if anyone else had a similar problem.

Safe driving, and enjoy your Genesis's!!

To help prevent brake rotor warping, losten and hand torque every lug nut on each wheel to the same torque. That could fix the current rotor warp if it is not to severe. It will prevent future rotor warp if you do it every time the lug nuts are removed. I had this issue on a 1994 Chrytsler LHS and spoke to an engineer at Bendix about the problem. He suggested this solution. I kept the car an additional 60k after I replaced the rotors and never had a problem again. I now do this on all of my vehicles and never had a rotor warp problem since that point. A few mechanics like Discount Tire properly torque lug nuts, most do not.

I really dislike the DRL setup on the 2015 models that require bulb changes every 2-3 years or so. I have been using 2357NALL bulbs by Phillips that lasted just short of 3 years as of today with my driver side bulb that is burned out.

Today I bought some Sylvania brand 2357ALL bulbs from my local Autozone since I do not want to wait for online shipped Philips bulbs since I hate driving with a burned out bulb. Hopefully the Sylvania bulbs will last as long as the Phillips or even longer.

There is a discussion on the forums where a lot of owners are replacing the drl bulbs with led with a lot of success. They're using either leds with built-in canbus or wiring in resistors to prevent hyperflashing. Do a search and you'll find it.

I appreciate the advice.

I am using LED DRL LED bulbs in my other car, however they have failed after a couple years of DRL use as well due to the LED bulbs circuitry burning out due to excessive heat. Therefore, none of the DRL bulb options(LED or incandescent) are really failure proof after about 2 to 3 years of use in our cars.

Do you know of one owner in the forums with any bulb threads that actually been using LED DRL bulbs for over 3 years without any failures?

I haven't heard about anyone whose DRLs lasted more that a couple years. They just don't seem to last that long, probably because the bulbs are always on.

I have really a major dislike for the Genesis and G80 sedan with the ultimate packages; which is the repair/replacement cost for any of the luxury options such as HUD and active shocks. The HUD unit cost $2400 and a electronic shock sensors cost nearly $400 each.

Luckily none of these have failed in my car, but other members are inquiring about these features on older cars like the 2015 and 2016 models and from my research into matter; these components cost a lot of money to resolve out of warranty. Hyundai sells the Genesis and G80 as a great deal, but it seems like Hyundai is playing the long game by regaining profit for these cars in the repair shops with extreme out-of-pocket repair cost when the warranty expires.

Here is how much a replacement HUD unit will cost without labor just as an example.

Agree they are high but have you compared them with other brands for parts? Auto is no different that other industries. Replacement parts for machinery is as bad. Yes, it is a profit center.

True. I assume that Mercedes or BMW HUD units may be nearly twice as much to replace as well other similar options. Therefore, the cost to replace these items may be relative to other luxury cars, however it still excessive in my opinion.

I am considering just going with a used 2015 Lexus GS or Toyota Avalon. They seem to be a bit easier to own after 100k miles. I can trade my Genesis for a good price($19k-$20k) which mean I can just buy one of those flat out without a car payment. I am thinking of going that route before my 5.0 Ultimate needs $$$$$ in repairs.

I did some research and it seems that 2015 Lexus GS 350 F parts are cheaper than 2015 Hyundai Genesis 5.0 parts as a whole. Weird. As it seems it would be cheaper for me to repair a 2015 Lexus than my current 2015 Hyundai as it ages. I think I may have to trade up and lose some horsepower for a more cheaper to maintain luxury car.

Lexus active front shocks are $275 each while Hyundai wants $819 for their front active shocks. Since my car has over 80k miles it seems like I may just go with a same year high mileage Lexus GS 350 F Sport. I will test drive a used 2015 Lexus GS350 F- Sport today and see how it feels.

Here is a comparison from the two places I buy OEM parts online from.

Very smart. My 2015 5.0 Ultimate has been a major warranty repair every 2 months. Now the dealer is so sick of me, they are trying to tell me they can't get a claim approved for small ticket items like $250 repairs. My favorite....they replaced the resistor/motor for the passenger seat. It didn't work a month later and they charged me $240 for a "Seat Adjustment." Of course, there are $2000 roof racks; $1800 camera sensors that don't work, etc. I'm at about 70k miles now...will drive it to 95k and dump it.

Actually my favorite is the headlights randomly going out at night.... nobody (3 dealers) can't find the problem.
