Most manufacturers run 4-5 year cycles for a major refresh/redesign. So you are looking at a 2019/20 model year. That being said the last one was 6 years but the design was from the ground up.

Agreed however the transmission/engine is so tweaked you would be hard pressed to know the latter year was the same. They really did a fantastic job on those improvements.

My parents loved my car so much and coinciding with their lease being up, are picking up on Friday a 2015 Genesis 3.8 Ultimate/AWD/Empire State Gray.

The only two views I saw during my test drive were "north up" and the other view where your view is always straight ahead.

As a 2015 Genesis owner since last June, I can tell you that those are the only 2 views (at least in USA Ultimate models).

I think he was referring to the back up camera view.

As a 2015 Genesis owner since last June, I can tell you that those are the only 2 views (at least in USA Ultimate models).

That's too bad. I've had that view in every car for the last 10 years. Once you start using it, it's very difficult to go back to that straight down view. Infiniti was the first to use it and then the other Japanese car makers added it as well. Hopefully the Koreans will too one day.

I prefer the straight down view to the 3D view - less cluttered and easier to see the actual road shapes and next turns.

There's a lot to like about the car, and I'm not going to post everything that's already been said.

That being said, I'll give a special mention to the adaptive cruise control. I always considered it something I wouldn't use or trust, but even though curves it tracks the car in front much better than I expected. It is a bit slow to take off and sometime stops abruptly, especially when approaching a red light when its far enough behind that it isn't locked onto another car. This is expected given how the system works, and I still view it as a driver's aid to be used in some situations (like regular cruise control). In that case, I usually cancel cruise and let it drift down like I normally would.

I also discovered today that it plays M4A files from a USB drive as well as MP3. I didn't like the way the interface worked with my iPod (tracks in albums listed in alphabetical vice track order, resetting to the first song in the list, etc), and I was dreading having to convert all 4,000+ songs I have in M4A format to MP3. The interface when reading form a USB drive is also a lot better (songs listed in track order, searching by cover flow, etc).

There are so many things about this car that I’m pleased with that it’s hard to pick favorite features there are so many. While there are some bumps shall we say with the car as reported already I still think it’s a worthy attempt at bringing out a new model with so many Hi Tech features. That said pushed hard I would have to say my favorite features are first the HUD. It’s so well implemented. Most critics would say it’s just another driver distraction but actually in my opinion it’s the opposite. I don’t think a simple test drive can really convey the usefulness of this feature. You have to live with it for a while to really appreciate it. The second is the smart cruise control. I had it on my 2011 and I’ve been hooked since then. While it might have its short comings its benefits are readily apparent. If I’m not in heavy traffic I always use it. From very slow school zones to expressways it just works.

I've had HUDs on other cars (2002 Grand Prix), but this is far more advanced. It displays useful driving information that you'd otherwise need to take your eyes off of the road and look down at the gage cluster or nav screen to see.

I'll add another like: The fit and finish of the exterior. The panel gaps are very consistent, and openings (like the hood, mirrors and headlights) are all very well sealed. I washed my car for the first time today, and this is the first car that didn't have trails of water running down the doors when I tried to wax it.

I also like the overall look. I spent a lot of time looking at the car on Sunday when the dealership wasn't open, but there are a lot of things you don't notice until doing a full detail.

my SCC showed me a new trick today - i was crawling behind a vehicle that was coming to a stop at a light, then that car started changing the lane to the left and the screen on the dashboard showed a warning that read something along the lines "beware of a stopped vehicle ahead" or something like that... kinda cool.

That's an improvement over the 1st-gen auto-cruise system, which will occasionally stab the throttle then stand on the brakes when a car in front changes lanes while approaching stopped traffic.

First car i had with power folding mirrors- quite nice. Just wish they wouldnt open until u start engine.
Didnt see anyone talk about this: full auto up and down on all windows with pinch protection its about time.
I like how the headrests not only adjust vertically but horizontally too. Side note: I Used to have power headrests in my Mercedes E420- not needed but really cool.

In the not really needed but cool category: My CL55 would raise the rear headrests automatically if someone sat in the back seat.

It's probably been mentioned already, but I love having both the touch screen and the knob. A couple of reviewers have complained that the knob is too far back, but I sit back far enough that it's positioned perfectly for my hand. For people who sit more forward so that the knob is too far back, the touch screen is probably within easy reach. Even though I use the knob for most quick tasks (e.g. switching audio), I like having the touch screen for typing in destinations.

I agree, the knob/touch screen combo is awesome....I use both.
