  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

2016 Genesis News?

Driving to work this morning, I saw these five brand new Genisi on a car-hauler... interestingly they were headed in the wrong direction to have come from the port (they were headed south on the North side of LA, and the port is on the south side of LA.) but I snapped some pics anyway... I *think* they are 15's (they were mostly if not all 3.6's, and I see no fogs) but maybe some trained eyes on the forum can verify either way...
Could be 2016 Base model V6's which still do not have LED fog lights. Hard to tell if these cars have pano-roofs (bottom white one does not appear to have a pano-roof?). If they do, then they are 2015's!

Hyundai may be using Port Hueneme as the port of entry in Southern California area. Port Hueneme is up near Oxnard (north of Malibu).

Your dealer is half right: you may not be able to order all of the needed parts through Hyundai USA - but you can get hem on eBay. Essentially, you need 3 parts to do an OEM install:
  1. The left/right fog light modules
  2. The stalk left side (blinker) copntrol stalk with the fog light switch (ie., the part from the NA 5.0 modle)
  3. The wiring harness for the from bumper

You can get all three of these parts on eBay. I got them form this guy with no hitches - delivered quickly:

lights and bumper harness:

stalk:

If you use the new bumper harness, it is plug an play, but the pins for the parking sensors need to be reordered to match the one in place (easy to do).

The details on what you need to do are in this thread:
http://genesisowners.com/hyundai-genesis-forum/showthread.php?t=16596

Conversely - you could dissect the replacement harness and make a new subharness just to feed power to the fog lights and not touch the parking sensors at all (or even not have to remove the front bumper cover).

In these setups, you'll have full OEM functionality: the fog-light indicator will light on the dash board and the fog lights will turn off when your turn on your high beams (as required by law in some states). The lights switch will also "remember" it is on and the foglights will automatically come on with the headlights once you turn them on the first time (so you don't have to turn them on every time you enter the car), but you can manually turn them off with the switch (and the'y stay off and won't come on next time the headlights are turned on) if so desired.

The other option is to just get the fog lights and wire them to the fusebox directly - either with a switch (you'll need to run though the firewall and drill some holes to mount) or wire them to the headlights wiring in some fashion so they come on with the headlights (but won't turn off with high beams).

I prefer the OEM approach - you can easily do it all yourself. The only thing I did was to have the dealer install the replacement control stalk as you need to take the wheel off and I did not want to screw with the airbag (service manual also indicates special tools are needed).

Good Luck.

Thanks much for the comprehensive reply. I have shared this info with a local independent garage. Do I have to be concerned about voiding my warranty if I were to proceed with the fog lamp and stalk installation?

The warranty related to anything you change could be voided (if they notice you changed it). But the warranty on totally unrelated components, such as the engine and transmission, will not be affected.

Agreed and and if you use OEM parts, I can't see them denying anything outside of the fogs themselves.

1. Where did you read that?
2. What country? AWD Ultimate will continue to be available in USA according to everything I have seen. Have no idea about Canada.

It was on "Google Alerts"? I have seen nothing else about dropping the Ultimate Package from the 3.6 Genesis. Even the Brochure shows the package. The article did state a release date of the second week of November. We shall see.:)

The V6 is a 3.8L, not 3.6.

So now that the press release is official, did anyone else again notice the discrepancy with regular vs premium fuel for the Lambda V6? I know it's like beating a dead horse, but I really would like to know if the 311 HP rating for the V6 is on regular or premium.

In keeping with its 5.0-liter V8 sibling, the Genesis 3.8-liter Lambda engine utilizes direct-injection and produces 311 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 293 lb.-ft. of torque at 5,000 rpm. It also has a high compression ratio of 11.5:1 for greater thermal efficiency. The Lambda engine will run on regular fuel with only a small reduction in peak power, and no negative driving effects, whenever desired by the owner.

yup - I noticed that too - didn't see that qualifier anywhere in writing for the 2015's. If I had to guess, the 311 hp is likely based on Premium fuel like the V8 420 hp rating is...

It would be based on the fuel specified in the EPA mileage testing, so I think it is regular.

if its based on regular, you will probably get 325 hp on premium. if its based on premium, you will probably get 295 hp.

its just a play on the numbers, a marketing technique. Did you really think hyundai engineered the engine to be primal and susceptible to low quality fuel ?

For the 2009-2011 Genesis 4.6 V8, Hyundai specifically published specs that claimed the engine runs on regular or premium, but gets 7 additional HP with premium. The Genesis V8 has always been EPA tested with premium. I have not seen a specific number for the GDI version starting in 2012.

They have never said anything specific about the 3.8 V6, but probably gets a similar HP boost with premium. They have always done EPA mileage tests with regular fuel on the V6.

It is definitely a selling point for some buyers if a car runs on regular gas, as that lowers the cost of ownership. Buyers of the smaller engine (if more than one engine is available) are probably more sensitive to that.

You want better MPG plus better performance use NO ALCOHOL gas.

So this one (sort of) local dealership keeps emailing me because I had shown interest in the Genesis at one point. I must have told this woman 5 times that I am looking for the 2016, but she keeps trying different tactics to ultimately get me to buy the 2015. Yesterday she emailed me to see if I had "any questions," and I told her my only question is when will you have the 2016s (i.e. stop contacting me about the 2015). Her response was "late February." Does she not realize they just put out a press release that says November? Or is her dealership so backed up with 2015s they are going to wait 3 more months to get any 2016s?

I'm pretty sure I've already cross this dealership off my list.

The salesperson you talked to has bills to pay each month, and they need money now, not in February. A large part of their pay is on commission. Don't take it personally.

I would not even ask a dealer when they will get the 2016's. I definitely would not ask a salesperson, who may not even know. Just wait until they have some (probably listed in inventory on their website). A lot will depend on how many 2015's they still have on their lots, since they don't want to buy a lot of 2016's until the most of the 2015's are gone. Hyundai does not send out cars to dealers unless the dealers purchase them (dealers are not owned by Hyundai).

Honestly, you know more about the Genesis than the person selling it to you. You can also rely on the salesperson to give you no useful information about when the 2016s will actually arrive. Some are actually good sales people but unfortunately most are not.
