  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Aftermarket Subs in Genesis?

All signals going to any speaker is always analog, therefore tapping the LOC into the speakers (whether it be the deck speakers or subwoofer) will get an analog singal.

And yeah, I told him earlier that tapping into the subwoofer instead of the speaker would be ideal. you are right about the frequency range, therefore, making more sense to tap into there.

you dont want to put the LOC after then amp, the LOC provides a pre-amp output.

Still not understanding about not connecting a LOC downstream of the OEM amp. There is no other way he is going to get a signal to feed into the LOC.

Well when you tap a loc in a car without an amp isn't it the same as tapping a loc to a car with an amp to do so before the external amp..cause in both cases ur tapping the wires from the head unit which is sending out a signal correct? So then I jus tap the stock sub wires before the amp correct? If so aren't there 2 sets of 2 wires I tap into?

Any idea which wires they are at the amp? Pin # and colors?

The signal from the OEM headunit is an umamplified, digital audio signal that is converted to analog by the OEM amplifier. This is where a LOC will not work, unless there is a device out there that decodes the digital signal.

You are correct in saying that an amplified head unit would work, but ours are not.

So I'm still unsure since there isn't an agreement, loc before or after the amp?

If I were you, after the stock amp, at the speaker. It will be an analog signal ( which the LOC needs)

so here is what the whole connection would look like
stock amp -> rear deck sub/speaker -> LOC -> aftermarket sub amp -> aftermarket woofers.

I would personally use this LOC:

Didnt like the ultimate lows - have always been a stickler.

Cheaped out and did a mtx single 12 box that ties in w a level pot.

Can post pics - cheapest car audio upgrade I've ever done.
Is it perfect? No. But it's more bass than I need - usually keep it close to lowest setting.

Bass is like salt - you can always add later, but once it's too much..you're toast.

Just to be clear, is there anywhere that the remote wire can be connected to in the trunk that would not require running it to the fuse panel up front?

Tbone...I haven't done anything to mine, but I believe the factory amp is installed in the trunk under the plastic shroud that covers the lip of the trunk. It likely has a remote cable going to it that you could tap, but you'd have to figure out which wire it is.

Thanks for the reply. I went ahead and purchased a converter that has a built in remote wire. Perfect for me and makes even less work. Now trying to figure out how I want to do the box

Hey mark i have 2011 genesis base want to add a sub sony 10" how hard is this to do i am good with my hands

Looking at Bazooka BTA8250D powered sub; any ideaon how to hook this up?

Sorry, I guess I should have said I have a 14 speaker premium system.

Reviving this guy from the dead since it has the most relevant info on here regarding this topic....

I'm going to be adding a single 10" 250-300w RMS sub in the near future and am going to attempt installing myself rather than shelling out the $100-$150 to have it installed. However, I'm a total novice when it comes to stereo/electronics other than my armchair research.

Questions:
- Scott mentioned running the remote wire from the trunk to the driver side fuse panel. Is there a specific fuse I need to hook into with my "add a circuit"? Anything that goes hot upon ignition and has the correct amperage should work, right?

- Do I need an LOC when connecting the aftermarket amp to the wires feeding the stock sub (I have the base system)? I seem to remember that this is always necessary when using the factory head unit, but I don't know if having a factory amp already alters this equation.

- How difficult is it to get to the stock sub and are people getting clean signals when tapping those wires for the aftermarket set up? I noticed there's quite a bit of upholstery around the rear deck when coming in through the trunk. How do I remove without destroying?

I think I can pull this off. Especially appealing is the fact that the battery is in the trunk and I don't have to worry about getting a wire through the firewall.

Thanks in advance, guys.

I think I answered most of my own questions upon further research. I looked up how to remove the rear seat to get to the speaker deck and will be running the remote to a 20 amp fuse.

I ordered a 150w RMS Rockford Fosgate, Boss 250w RMS monoblock amp, 10" box, installation kit, and LOC this morning. I'll post back when I get everything installed.
