  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Alternatives to G70?

Having owned both a mark III and a IV and modded the day lights out of them, I did shed a tear or two, when I learned that the V will be 99% a BMW and 1% made by idiots that no longer have any clue what performance with inherent reliability actually looks like...
It is beyond sad to imagine that pathetic effort is the best they can come up with, while some people still insists that Hyundai are copy cats...
Why bother with copying, when you can take someone else’s, slap a badge on it and call it your own...
Hyundai Motor Group has come such a long way. And it’s evident in their ventures in electric cars and fuel cells. Didn’t they just invest like $60 million in a partnership for more of those projects. They know what they are doing and eventually Genesis will be a recognized, dependable brand even if that takes a couple years. It’s disappointing a company as big Toyota and BMW had to share so much to make a sports car possible.

I dont consider a Supra or any other all out sports car a comparison to a G70 or other sport sedan. A sports sedan is luxurious, sporty, and practical (more so than a sports car at least).

I cross shopped BMW 330i M Sport, C class, A4, and A5 Sportback. Chose the G70 for bang for buck, looks, interior, and all the gleaming reviews. For what any of those would have cost me for a base model, I was able to get a 3.3T sport. And, the interior is way nicer than a BMW which felt plasticky to me in comparison. The others just seemed boring to me. I also like the fact that there just arent any G70s on the road that I've seen. I probably see 10 of each of the others daily on my 50 mile commute. Now, if the weather would cooperate (daily T storms), I would actually drive it to work. Lol
^^^This and I’ll add reliability and 5 years of maintenance on top of that.

Drove an S60 T6 Inscription yesterday and was impressed overall. Not the rocket power of a 3.3 but certainly more than adequate power (315?) , advance package is basically equivalent to Prestige and and roomier especially in back & trunk. IMO handles as well as the non sport/dynamic G70 (haven’t driven those yet). I’m old (60s) but styling is pretty fresh and not Volvo fuddy-duddy. The infotainment is controversial but I had no problem with it and enhances the clean, uncluttered look of the dash. 12” digital driver display (a la Audi) Sticker is $52k- ish as long as you don’t have the Bowen sound upgrade. The HK 15 speaker system sounded great to me.

Pricing is great right now with Costco deal: Employee (under invoice) discount plus $3,000 plus $1k conquest bonus etc plus $4-5k dealer discount ends up better 36 mos lease than G70 3.3 Prestige.

I’d be concerned about long term reliability if buying but not so much as a lease. I’m basically between that and G70 at this point. Never expected to even consider Volvo.

Are you sure it handles pretty well compared to the G70?
That is a FWD based car and is front heavy compared to the near 50/50 weight distribution on the G70!

The T6 Inscriptions are all AWD though I get what you’re saying about the weight distribution. I’m looking for handling at “normal” limits and the AWD actually is better (for me) in that regard. I’m not looking to drift it or drive Angeles Crest highway at high speed so the weight distribution isn’t an issue really. Plus I’ve driven/owned A4s and an S6 that had similar situation, nose heavy, etc and they were fine for my purposes.

My experience with Volvo is now a bit older but some of the fundamentals remain. Before moving to the US, I had 2 Volvo, a 2002 V40 and a 2006 S40 and I really liked both. As many mentioned here, they are not at the top of the league in terms of driving dynamics but THOSE SEATS!!!!! Nothing comes close to a Volvo seat for a long drive. I also loved the quality of the interior, which was nothing compared to how nice their interiors are today. The interior of the G70 is really nice, and it is one of the features that attracts me to the car but I would go for the S60 inscription just for that gorgeous interior (and the BW sound) if driving dynamics were not so high on my list...

You just have to hope they solved their reliability issues, Volvo has been abysmal in that area the last few years.

I saw this model at my car show in November, first one in town. The salesman said his manager was in Charleston SC to see the process at the plant before bringing the car show example back and they took every care for quality including gloved hand workers running a touch and feel test over all exterior areas and gap checks.
Good sales technique, I agree. He, (the sales man) was wearing no gloves.

Seats are incredible. Car feels appreciably larger than the G70, and I probably like the interior look better than the G70 overall. Infotainment interface/driver display features makes the G70's feel very dated, though I know some have issues with the Volvo touch screen. I like the look of both cars though the S60 is certainly more......Volvo than G70 is Hyundai. The Inscription stock radio is a 15 speaker HK that is more than enough for me. One issue is that ventilated Nappa seats are only available with Luxury option (includes massage as well!) and it seems that when dealers order that option they order it with the B&W ($3,200), 19 in wheels ($850), and other add-ons so that the sticker is more like $59k which is way too much and adds $8-9,000 to MSRP. My '15 Genesis is my first ever car with ventilated seats...which I love in L.A., but I can do without it for that kind of money. If the Volvo dealer finds me a car with that right combination of packages (Inscription/Advanced) it's going to be hard to resist vs. the G70.

I really have liked Volvos, but I was let down after driving the 2018 S60 Polestar. Even so, the interior was nice (previous generation to your S60) and I really like how it looks on the outside. A unique car that you don't see that often, an attribute the G70 shares. I would have considered the new generation (yours) if they had bigger engine options. But, I'm tired of only seeing 2.0 turbo'd cars these days. I wanted more displacement complete with more aftermarket support to make more power.

Ex-wife had the Volvo XC-40. I liked the infotainment center (same as in the new S60). I will say the 360 camera system is better in the G70

I didn't check out the 360 camera in the S60 but that's an interesting comment since some of the reviews online say the G70 360 system is not as good as its competitors. Only Volvo I've ever owned was an S80 that I bought my wife for Christmas back when that model was brand new (2000-ish?). Great car....except the electronics were a disaster. We ended up giving it back to Volvo through Lemon Law. Among other things, the electrical system would randomly shut down stopping the car (often in intersections after a light changed) cold, locking wife and kids in etc. Nasty stuff.

To each their own, but imo, that Volvo is boring. They're more expensive when equipped similar to the genesis and "wow" doesnt come to my mind when I see them. Nice interior, decent attempt by Volvo, and I've seen zero press or accolades compared to the G70's North American car of the year, Motor Trend car of the year, and numerous positive reviews besting or equaling the German brands which is more than the now well established Japanese luxury brands have done. A pretty stellar first attempt by Genesis.

Well, the S60/v60 was one of the 3 finalists with the G70 in the MT Car of the Year, not to mention the many other accolades from other publications and You Tube reviewers so maybe you haven't been looking hard enough. ;) But it's all good. Like you said, to each his own. I'm still on the fence between the 2 cars and know that I can't go wrong with either one.

This is a good comparison of both.

Yeah, I read all the car mags, but must have glossed over the Volvo. They've never been my cup of tea. Safety is what comes to mind when I think Volvo, not performance. Well, if they are finally stepping up their game, that's good news.

What do you guys think about the new CT5-V, as compared to the G70?

The CT5-V will be significantly lighter, with a weight of 3,660 lbs in RWD (2020 Cadillac CT5: The Complete Details), as compared to the G70 around 3,800 lbs. The CT5-V will also have more torque at 400 ft/lbs (This Is The 2020 Cadillac CT5-V), versus the G70 at 376 ft/lbs. The CT5-V is down slightly on power with only 355hp, versus 365hp in the G70.

Will be interesting to see how they stack up against each other. I like the CT5's new front end, but I really don't like those rear quarter panels... I think the CT5 might be bigger than the G70, whereas the CT4 may be more of a direct comparison? Maybe I'm wrong here. I'm not seeing the dimensions anywhere (though I didn't look very hard).
