  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Audio problem

Well it occured again: NO AUDIO! (x3 for my 2012, x 10 for the 2010 I owned). I read in the Equus section that one owner had this occur while near a Hyundai Service Center and he droped in while the audio was dead. He reports that the service writer knew of the problem and the solve: remove the interior, driver's side, big, yellow fuse for a moment and then replace it. I did and this works. Add this to a list of quirks we have to live with.

Did you get the TSB 12-BE-012-1 applied to your car?

I had the same problem with my 2012 Genesis with both Tech and Premium packages. It turns out that the build date on my Genesis was July 2012 which had the previous specs on the radio.

My dealer updated the software and I've not experienced any problems since. I'm lucky to have a sophisticated dealer two miles from my house.

Since I've had the upgradeed TSB loaded, I have had one issue of the sound going out but it came back on the next engine start.

My next oil change is about a week away and I'll ask about the TSB then. I don't think my Hyundai dealer will apply a fix that does not include my model year. I've read the string and I'll explain that my software's date/version needs to be checked even though the head unit rests in a 2012.

My service writer at Hyundai said that he would have his technician apply the TSB for "audio mute at startup" to my 2012 Genesis. I was surprised. He couldn't do it the day of my oil change but said he would need a day of notice. I'll report about this next week (or maybe in two weeks due to the holiday)..

You probably have the old DIS software. Try this:

- Press the INFO/PHONE button twice to enter the Phone Menu.
- Select Phone Book --> New Entry
- Select the symbol "1@" in the speller and then, "OK"
- Enter "##0324#0704##" and then "OK"

Now you should be in the Full Eng Mode menu.

Hi i tried the INFO/PHONE method but when you are in the phone directory it does not allow you to click OK after "1@"
Any pointers

I had the same problem 2012 V8 tech and I had coins in the aux port for cellphone charger under the center arm rest the radio and CD player stopped working once the coins were removed everything started working correctly.

I have a 2013 Genesis that is less than 2 weeks old. When I go into the car, the radio presets do not work. I can only change the channel by sliding the knob instead of turning it (like i used to be able to do). But when you slide the knob, it just moves to the next radio station, not the next preset. If i turn off the car with the radio on and turn it back on, no sound comes out unless i tune it to a new station.

I have no issues with playing music from my ipod and making phone calls using the voice commands. I called the dealer that I bought the car from and they said they may need to replace the unit. Quite troubling since this car is less than 2 weeks old with 200 miles on it.

Has anyone else experienced this issue?

That's not acceptable to NOT use the xm radio during free week. While it MAY be true, no other vehicle I've had with Satellite had this problem. Mine went out last week with my phone too. NO radio media FM/AM, stereo, XM, etc worked.

It's been a month since I drove my vehicle to Hyundai while the "no audio" problem in full effect. The service writer came out and witnessed that there was NO SOUND from my audio system...fast forward: I'm waiting for a call. I was told that there are no more re-manufactured units available (I've already had two) and Hyundai apparently does not want to pay for a new unit so I sit and wait. I've been in contact with corporate Hyundai customer service who then got my regional manager involved. So, since they want contact me, I'll call them, yet again. Why wont they just fix my car? Just make it perform as advertised. I just received a "teaser" about the new 2015 Genesis in the mail...YEAH RIGHT! "Fool me twice..."

Have you tried the maintenance menu reset? When I have had the no audio issue, that's what fixed it. Don't think a replacement head unit will solve the problem; there is clearly a firmware issue with them. My replacement head unit has done this once already.

No I never tried the maintenance reset. I did talk to the service writer and I was told that a new unit (not "re-manufactured") was authorized and I should get a call to replace the head when the new unit arrives.

We have had the head unit replaced twice and the amp replaced once on my wife's 2012 Rspec. The CS at our local Gilbert AZ dealer is so bad that i have given up, which is what they want. This was an experiment we could have bought any car we wanted but my wife liked the Genesis. Never again. They are just not there yet with the higher end cars. This audio thing is so annoying. We have had multiple occasions of no audio, after the first head unit was installed we lost the rear seat audio. They decided it must be the amp, which did not fix it so they ordered another head unit. Since then we have just dealt with the no audio issue. I contacted people up the chain of command at Hyundai and got zero support about this issue. District mangers and above would never return calls. And our 40,000 car is probably not worth half that with 20K mikes on it after 2 years plus. They keep trying to get us to trade it in on a new model, not happening.

If you have the Tech Package, next time you run into this no-audio issue or the voice command is not working, please try this:

Go to ENG menu (by pressing these buttons simultaneously: Disc/AUX, Navi/Menu, Back and the Volume Knob on the DVD player).

Go to the "Software Update" submenu and selet "To full ENG full mode". When you select it, it prompts for a key code.

If you have the old head unit with old NAV maps (2009 and 2010), first try entering ##0324#0704## as key code.

If you have a newer head unit (2011 or later) or upgraded the NAV maps, enter 0324 as key code. Once you enter the code, on the left hand side there will be few more menu items that make up the full engineering mode.

Select "Diagnostics" submenu then select "Reset Component". Select UTA. This should reset the Amplifier. If audio doesn't come back, try resetting the other components.

Please post results here.

I know this is an old thread, but, (I have an older unit w/out any updates) would like to know if all the # symbols are truly # symbols and not something else. And do you list the entire string you have listed?

A FOURTH head unit was installed today..it has old maps! OLD MAPS! I was told that a new head unit would be installed. I'm truly exhausted now. I'm tired of them (service center) and I'm sure they're tired of me. I'll buy a Garmin and I hope that the new radio doesn't drop its audio. IF Hyundai calls or writes for response to this latest "service" I'll let them know, in exact, concrete terms, just how exasperating dealing with them has been.

Vince, you don't deserve this hassle from Hyundai. It's time to contact Dave at Hyundai. Fire away!

With all the problems posted online regarding the audio & GPS on the 2011, 12 & 13 Genesis, why hasn't any class action been started since Hyundai does not seem to have handled this problem in any way shape or form. Has there been any lemon law attempts as most of us have had numerous amps and radios replaced and the problems still exist.

Just happened for the 2nd time to me today, 2012 Tech and Prem. Didn't think about it the first time but now I knew there is an issue so checked here. DO NOT need or use XM so that isn't the root of the problem, but it could be XM internal bug causing it even if I don't use it. I'll try the reset method and see if it works. Don't know what my Firmware or Software is at the moment to post.
