  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Downloaded the new software update for my 2023 GV80 via USB stick

No, it is not an issue loading the 2021 0r 2022 to my 2023 GV80. They are all identical except for my GV80 having a scroll knob. they all have a Gen6 Head Unit. There have been no ill effects from doing this. Other than it did not resolve the lack of the speed limit sign in the HUD. Will hope the November update will resolve this issue. If not, I will leave it to the dealer to rectify the issue.

I thought you stated that after doing the update the speed limit sign had returned to your HUD.
As far as a Nov update once again I had been told that update only come out twice a year around fall and spring.
The only thing I know in regards to Nov is this is when the Oct 2022 update will be available to order the USB stick with the software update down loaded into it,

I followed up that the 2021 did not correct the issue. GGenesishas paused the October 2022 update. You can download it from Mapsost, but I would not load it. Genesis Customer Service said there will be a mid November update for the GV80.

Yes, I took a giant leap and downloaded the Oct 2022 unto a USB stick and did the Update in the car. I am glad that there will be a Nov update for the GV80 and I hope it will resolve the speed limit sign/HUD issue. I do not understand why these software updates can sometimes be so problematic😱

It is because there is no one developer for the system updates. There are several and then they are put together as a single update.

I'd say it's because project management for software has changed. Back in the old days when we used to code on stone tablets with a chisel, there would have been an internal alpha test and an external beta test before the gamma release. DevOps has eliminated all that with their pipelines that automate user acceptance testing. In fact, it's so automated no users are actually involved. If they had offered the users on this message board the opportunity to beta test the Oct update in September, this never would have happened. Personally, that why I always check the message board for problems before installing an update. You just can't trust the DevOps process... I had a laptop get bricked once by a major Ubuntu version and learned my lesson.

Yes, an 0 where a 1 should have been can screw up things. I always wait for most updates. some companies will fix something the next day if there is an issue. Knowing most car manufacturers, fixes like these could take months as they would consider it non critical. But I am glad to hear they are planning a fix this month. I loaded my usb stick with the update when it came out, but it is still sitting on my desk. I am about to install it as the issues discussed here don't seem to affect my 2021.

It's a game changer for me due to the Android auto update, love it. The other issues aren't a big deal for me👍

What AA change did they make in latest update? Mine looks the same, and the update notes (worthless) do not mention anything about an update. I have a map in 1/3rd ish of the screen, date and time, and then a small section with radio info (or other Genesis function). Thanks

Looks like this
That is pretty much how mine looks now before the upgrade, except I use satellite images for my maps. But I have a 21 and I think the 23's were left out of the last upgrade, so maybe we got it sooner?
I do like that layout. I do miss the compass in the mirror. So where you have the clock, I put the compass.

There are a few things I don't like about this car and the compass not being in the mirror is one of them. The other two are not having a separate fan for the rear climate control, and not having lock and unlock sensors on the rear side doors. But there is so much stuff I like about this car, I will forgive them. But they best get it together for my next car. 😁

I came from a Tesla, and left that brand cause I missed my prior Lexus. Happy with this Genesis so far.

I just updated, took bout 55 min. Did not notice anything different.

Didn't notice until today that Sirius channels don't buffer music like they did before. The 'REC' icon is gone.

Did you have to change any settings to get that view. Updated mine, but not seeing where to select the two apps within the android auto screen.
It displays either map prominently and music secondary, or vice versa. I didn't have to make any changes. Started working after the update.

Stupid question but regarding installing the update in the vehicle. The vehicle has to stay on (with engine running) during the duration of the whole installation and update? 55 mins of engine idle doesn't sound nice :/

It can update in the background to, but I have never done it that way. I just kept the vehicle running. To be honest, I would do it in the background if you are going to install the October 2022 update, but I would not install it. Wait for the next update.

I just kept the battery on, engine off.

Everyone worries about letting the engine run during the update, but I don’t think the time that it takes to download the update is going to cause any problems to the engine.
The dealership did the April 2022 Update to my car and they took the car outside and left it running while the update downloaded. I was somewhat surprised that they did not take it to a service bay, hook the battery up to a charger and download the update, but I guess they decided to take the easier route.
I have had other cars were I performed software updates with the engine running and had no problems doing so.
I get it that everyone must do what they feel comfortable with and I can both appreciate and respect that.
On a side note this software update seems to be a hot topic for about all the Genesis Models.
