  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

G70 US Availability?

I doubt Genesis is going to offer good lease deals on the G70 since the Stinger doesn’t. Hyundai/Kia seems to like significantly higher MF on their leases than the competition. Stinger leases are best if you’re doing a lease buyout because they ramp up the MF every time they increase the discount.
Genesis used to have one of the lowest MF in the market with not so good lease cash incentives until a couple of months ago when the increased the cash incentive but increased the MF too. At the end we as costumers are getting the same bad lease deal.

Stopped by Port of Portland today, but, as expected, didn't really get much in the way of pictures or confirmation of the G70 being there. Initially I was assuming that, *maybe*, there was a small chance the sedans all covered in white could be the G70, but upon closer inspection I believe they're probably Sonata's. Along with those I saw a number of Konas, and some other white covered SUV's.

Anyway, on the way back out of the port area I noticed a section that contained a few G80's and G90's - but I didn't see a huge number of other covered/uncovered cars there, also, the highway was a little too busy for me to pull off to the side of the road and walk up to the fence as I had my toddler with me, therefore, no pics of this part. But, again, I didn't see anything in that area that could possibly be G70's.

Here you go. Kinda useless pics, as expected, but it was still fun and something to do on my day off.

Thank you for the detective work. Can the Forum give you some soft of trophy 🏆 for your cunning and bravery? 🦁

Looks to be the September issue. Definitely worth picking up. Been a long time since I've bought a magazine but this one looks to be worth some attention.

Interesting, their times are a bit slower than the informal reports we've been seeing. I wonder if this will be consistent across different magazines' reviews or whether there will be some variation. 0-60 here was 4.7. Informal reviewers were estimating 4.5 and some speculation ran down into the low 4's. Now we have to keep an eye out for Road & Track's review, along with a few others. We well may not see comparative reviews until we actually have the cars on dealer lots. It seems the comparisons are sort of aimed at rekindling interest in cars that have already had their debut. We'll probably have to wait for the competition's 2019 models to hit the streets before we see comparisons.

See below

Agree that the 4.7 seconds is slower than expected and higher than Genesis mentioned in their release of 4.5 seconds; then again the test was a RWD version, and the press release was quoting 4.5 for AWD. I'm guessing AWD does better with a launch with more initial thrust more than compensating for the increased weight.
I am VERY disappointed. The G70 does seem to have been tested using ACN91 (arguably the worst premium fuel available in the US). But here is the kicker! The C&D test (using the same methods with the same correction factors) for the RWD Kia Stinger GT was performed using 87 Octane fuel.

The 157 lb. heavier, regular fueled Stinger was:
  • 0.3s faster to 60
  • 1.1s faster to 100
  • 4.3s faster to 140
  • 0.2s faster 5-60
  • 0.4s faster (trapping a whopping 5 mph greater) in the 1/4 mile
  • With worse tires, pads and more weight (this is the upgraded special edition model, the standard sport model should have worse performance) the Stinger stopped from 70 mph in 8 feet less.
C&D almost always produces the "best" numbers when it comes to instrumented testing. They also almost always best the manufacturer's estimates. Given this, I don't have high hopes for better numbers elsewhere.

The AWD Stinger is slower than the RWD model (no traction issues off the line for the RWD model so AWD is just a weight penalty). We don't yet know if that holds true for the G70.

See below

I forgot to mention that launch control was not functioning when C&D produced their Stinger GT numbers.

Historically, C&D has produced faster times than most other publications. As a result, the times I have viewed them as outliers was because everyone else's numbers were slower, but clustered together. Still, I wouldn't just dismiss their data out of hand.

The numbers MT got for the RWD Stinger GT match pretty closely to what C&D got for the G70 (0-60 in 4.8 / 1/4 mile in 13.3 @ 106.9). Based on these observations, we may be more likely to find that the C&D test for the Stinger GT was the outlier. Most other tests for the Stinger GT are not quite that fast. So if the G70 matches these other tests for the Stinger GT, we are still back to the bottom vs. the competition for the G70.

Hyundai/Genesis stated 4.5s. They had to have tested their own cars. So maybe they will reach out to C&D.

Here is a Stinger test from Motor Trend's January 2018 issue featuring car of the year:

I think the conditions of above test are closest to those in C&D test I posted as both occurred in California Proving Grounds though both publications correct the times. So G70 is a bit faster than the RWD GT2 as expected though I sure hoped the first test would show figures much faster than the fastest posted for the Stinger.

Thank you again for the data. I’m thinking of starting new thread with print reviews. What do you think?

I think I posted the full article (sans the cover pages) in it :D

Driving it soon. I got shunned from the board. Guess I’m back now.

Shunned from the board? Man I hope not; you're a breath of fresh air. I'm not even a realistic potential G70 customer but I'm a Genesis fan. Really enjoying your posts.

Well, I have some bittersweet news to report. I ended up buying a 2015 CPO BMW 550i xdrive. I got a really good deal on it, and I'll likely keep it for 3-5 years. Then I will certainly have another look at the G70, but I just gave up waiting and decided to pull the trigger.

Enjoy !!

Yeah...don't ask...LOL. Few people ticked me off and I reacted. Will keep it to myself from now on :) I got blocked for a week. Which was great...since I was in Toronto and didn't even go online really.

Need to make some phone calls today or tomorrow and get some fresh news if I can.

I remember you saying you had a chance to take it for a spin on Friday and your brief impression was overwhelmingly positive. Would definitely like to hear your personal review on the car. Small ask, I have an IS350 with ventilated seats that are life-changing although not that strong, can you tell me if you tried the ventilated seats, and if so, what was your impression? Wouldn't mind hearing your thoughts on the overall quality of the interior along with anything you didn't particularly care for.

Thanks.

Check my post in reviews :)

Seats are ventilated...butt and back...3 settings. I did the highest setting and works like a charm. Got too cold actually and turned it off. Felt my manhood starting to tuck away ;)

Fellas, regrettably I have had an unfortunate change in financial situation and can no longer get the G70 this year. I just paid off my truck this month and right now cannot afford a new car payment, or a lease or even a payment with a trade of my truck because I am moving and will have expenses related to that.... it's killing me but I do love my truck and will definitely need the G70 as my next car purchase.

I'll be closely following the release of the G70 and this message board because it is way too much fun hearing about this thing and following how Genesis/Hyundai continues to handle this release. Best of luck to all of you with your G70s in the near future. Hopefully, I'll be joining the club in a few years!

Another one bites the dust.

Sorry to hear that things have gotten a bit tight. Happens to all of us at some point(s). Moving is a big adventure in its own right and hopefully will provide some excitement. Enjoy your truck and you'll always be able to keep up-to-date with G70 goings-on right here.

While not the G70, sounds like you'll be getting a very nice ride. Good combination of fun and practicality. Lots of power in those babies. Should be a blast to drive. Enjoy it!

Almost September now...and still only seeing tweets about G80 and more driving reviews....no dates. :(

I just want prices. Even if Genesis is working through state regulations and deals to get individual dealerships, they should have cost and dealership cuts figured out already, right?

You can be sure of that. OTOH, they do not want to release them and give the competition a way to sell against them yet. It will be a release of everything when ready.

For me...$55k is tops. Still a brilliant deal for all you get. Mind you...I would not buy...I am leasing.

Thank you - I look forward to seeing the amazing deals on G70 pricing and imminent availability the day after I take possession of the car, no doubt.

I’m new, but I’ve been watching all G70 news with a watchful eye. Currently have a 2016 Maxima lease that’s up in April next year and hoping the G70 will be its replacement. Eagerly awaiting pricing announcements because if it’s priced similarly to the Canadian to US exchange rate ($57,500 is around $43,500 USD for 3.3T Sport), I’ll be all over the 3.3T Sport or Prestige. Not really interested in the 2.0 but that 3.3T is really calling my name. I have a couple guys at work that recently bought G80s that let me get a good look at the quality and extra effort Genesis puts into their vehicles, and with all the great chatter I can’t wait to become an owner myself!

My guess is it'll be more like 50k USD for the 3.3T Sport. I wish it would be that low, but it cost more for them to send vehicles to the US than to Canada. I'm eagerly awaiting pricing as well.

No shot the 3.3T Sport will be even close to $43.5k.... we all wish but that just ain't gonna happen

Yeah I’m expecting closer to $50k as well, a man can dream though can’t he?

Realistically I’ll more likely be looking at the Prestige.
