  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

G80 Sport - discoloration of the dark chrome trim around the doors

Had a discolor problem with my car ... covered in the lease agreement and re[laced at no cost.

I am the original dude who started this post and guess what?? After I got my car back from the 12,000 miles service. a few of the trims got the discoloration again. This is my third replacement. Going back to the dealership again.

I really think its something in the car washing process or the chemical the are using + the 100 degrees head.

I have a 19 G70 sport; Chrome around front grille and wheel finish is all peeling. Sent pictures to dealership and waiting for outcome

I am purchasing a 2018 G80 Sport with 28,000 miles tomorrow and noticed this on the car at the dealership. Is this something that is covered under the 5yr/60,000?

It should be. Some dealers are easier to work with than others so if they give you a hard time, push them. I was so tired of dealing with the dealer that I just buffed them out myself with a dremel which seems to be a permanent fix. But then I noticed all of my wheels were pealing so took it to dealer where they promptly replaced them, no questions asked so maybe in retrospect I should have had the dealer do the trim too. Heads up in the G80 Sport recall last week.

I brought this discoloring issue that I had with my trim to my dealership during a scheduled check and they replaced it with no cost within a week.

I just showed them this tread. At first they refused to submit it to genesis for warranty replacement. I assume it's under the 5/60 to answer your question. Genesis is also aware of this as multiple forum members had this fixed at no cost. I don't believe any of them were out of the 5/60 though.

I had all of window trim replaced because of this flaw/defect 6 months after purchase on my 2018 G80 sport under the 5/60 warranty. Dealer did this without any giving me any grief.

Good to hear. I called Genesis corp earlier and confirmed that this was a warranty item. Since the car was being detailed today and is supposed to be ready for this evening delivery I went over earlier today and discussed with the sales manager. I explained what I learned about the the lacquer coming off because of the original tape used. He made note of it and was going to check it. He said he would take care of it if it is a problem. Hopefully my 'Polar Ice' Sport comes to its new home this evening. I'll update my post once things have been decided.

My service rep called me today and said, that they're ordering new moldings for my car and it should be ready in a few days.

Got the same type stain on the grille of my 2019 G80 Sport bought new Nov 2019.

Thanks- I'll be doing that with my dealer but wonder if the new trim will any different?

View attachment 15239I have my G80 sport for about 3 months and after I got my car back from the dealership for some rattle and armrest fabric issue. I notice that the dark chrome trim around the doors starting to discolor. I see spots everywhere on the chrome. Pieces started to look like it was from a 15 year old car.

Is anyone is having this issue? This is a WTF moment.
I have the same issue. Had my G80 Sport for 2 months. Never put cleaner on the chrome.

Good to see all these posts. I took my car to one dealership, they said they will have to wait for genesis rep to come and they'll call me. No call. Took to another, they said the manager looked at it and looks like something got sprayed in one area cause it looks like water spots so they won't replace. All moldings were discolored. I asked to have them call Hyundai themselves. They said they'll call me back. Of course no call and no reply to my follow up emails. Deployed now so gotta reattempt when I get back. One rim was peeling a bit and they i guess sanded the part and recoated it instead of replace. Frustrating a car this price is having these kinds of issues.

I brought it to the attention of my dealer less than a year into the lease. Within three days they ordered new trim and replaced it at no cobra to me ... excellent service in Meriden Connecticut. A month ago I blew out TWO tires hitting an exposed concrete drainage founding the side of the road .. the next day they received my car via flatbed... no cost to me ... ordered 2 tires .. gave me another g80 for the day and by 4pm .. was back in my car ... but the front end alignment did cost me $70.00 . Still .. I’m not complaining 👍😉

Also - be thankful they didn't give you a cobra !

I had the majority of the window trim on the driver and passenger side replaced for the second time at 30K miles/26 months on my 2018 G80 Sport. Lower and c-pillar/port hole trim on driver and passenger sides were replaced. The upper on the front passenger side was also replaced, but the wind/rain guard was not re-installed. Dealer was concerned about breaking the rain guard when removing the trim from the guard. Trim and guard was removed attached together. They wanted me to buy a full rain guard kit ($140USD) to replace this one piece. I think they just didn't want to spend the time separating it. I told them to throw the trim and rain guard in the trunk and I'd do it myself. I spent 2 hours separating the old trim/rain guard and re-installing this rain guard.

I asked dealer to look at/replace trim at my 30K mile maintenance. I called before picking up for the maintenance (Friday). They said they'd order the part and to keep the 2019 G80 5.0 loaner I'd been given. One of the replacement trims was bent and had to be re-ordered. This also happened the first time I replaced the trim. It was the following Thursday when I picked it up. There was no charge for the replacement.

This is a flaw/defect in the 2018 G80 Sport window trim. It's a darker bronzed color than the 2018 G80 3.8/5.0. The coating/varnish is flawed and susceptible to corrosion/wear. The spots are the coating/varnish wearing away. Polishing/buffing will not remove the spots. You'd have to remove the coating on the entire trim piece. I never take my vehicle to a car wash, regularly washing by hand with a quality soap (CG's)specifically designed for washing cars. In my hood we don't get much wintry weather so it's not road salt causing the problem. I've gone to regularly waxing the window trim to extend the life/prevent the spotting. I expect this trim replacement will be an ongoing task kinda like regular maintenance while under warranty.
