If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Genesis Connected Service

How Doug like being constantly tracked?

Noticed an update to the app today. I see they finally are giving the option to disable the into screens, and a nice addition is 'kms to empty' on the Vehicle Staus page - that's actually quite useful!

I noticed vehicle status is now a button and not a pull down as well. The km to empty is a nice touch as you mention.

I still wish they would fix the next maintenance thing and heated seats! Oh, and the longer than 10 min run time! I had to leave my car on the driveway last night and used the starter this morning and left it for the full 10 min and the defrost had barely made a dent in the fog on the windows - and it was still above freezing out. Thankfully I am normally in a heated garage, but 10 min will suck when it really gets cold.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
Click on "Vehicle Health Status" on the home screen (or side menu) and then "monthly health report" on the bottom right.

I am really curious if the driving information part of your report is accurate as mine isn't.

Example:
April report: Car was at 424km, I owned it for 4 days and took delivery with ~40km yet it said I drove 257km
May report: Car was at 3,480km (3,056km in the month) and it said I drove 234km and started the car 10 times...
June report: Car was at 5,938km (2,458km in the month) and it said I drove 1,771km and started the car 113 times - getting closer...
July report: Car was at 8,110km (2,172km in the month) and it said I drove 1,849km and started the car 115 times - closer again, but still not accurate...

I just don't get how it can be so far out.

Please post how yours is doing. I will need my first service in Sept and plan on bringing this up even though it isn't anything serious and they likely won't be able to do anything about it.

So further to my above post, I think possibly with the last update to the app it fixed the reporting (or they may be totally unrelated, but still nice):

August report: Car was at 9,425km (1,315km in the month) and it said I drove 1,345km. So actually quite accurate which is nice to see. It did say 80 engine starts which seems high as the car only moved 11 days but it could be correct.

Glad to see the usefulness of the app and reports improving. (y)

Agree on the heated seats. Doubt they will change the 10 minutes. There are regulations in some towns here as well as some idiot running the car inside a garage.

Did you have actual frost or just dew on the windshield? Won't the wipers take care of it or was it inside?

As I have mentioned before, other manufacturers have the option to run longer than 10 minutes so there is no reason Genesis couldn't as well. If it was based on regulations in some towns, there would be no starters as many places have no idling bylaws. As for inside a garage... well I don't really have much sympathy for that...

No frost, but very humid and cool so fog and dew. wipers did helped, but I don't have wipers on every window. In 10 minutes the rear defrost was only about half done clearing the back window. When we get 30 degrees colder in a few months 10 minutes won't be enough imo.

i've logged on to the Connected Services site a few times now, and on a couple of those occasions the 'status' page shows my car being unlocked despite me knowing it was locked. the first time freaked me out and i enabled the lock feature through the website. then went i went to the car later it was indeed locked. but i can't say if it was locked before (and the website was wrong) or the Connected Services enabled the locks. at the time i assumed it was Connected Services that locked it, even though i was (almost) certain i had locked it.

but the next time this happened i went out to the car and confirmed it was locked, then logged back onto Connected Services which still said it was unlocked. this has happened twice.

has anyone else experienced this? it is certainly unsettling. either the car is locking and unlocking on its own and the website is correct, or the website is not accurately reflecting the vehicle status and incorrectly stating the car is unlocked when it is actually locked.

i haven't done a test to verify if unlocking through the app actually does what it should.

i am a skeptic when it comes to this sort of remote connectivity, and issues like above certainly give me additional pause on how trustworthy and secure these apps are.

Notice on the status page of the app where it says “Last Updated” - it’s not actually live. I just went into my app and it’s about four hours behind. If you click on the refresh button it should pull the current status, and I have found that to be accurate.

You would think that simply clicking on the status button would automatically refresh at the same time, but it doesn’t!

That's an idiosyncrasy related to how the app pulls data. It transmits the status of the car on ignition shutoff and then stops proceeding to "ping" the car for data management purposes. Basically, the system talks to the car via SMS text message. That's why your car is often showing unlocked - i.e. you hadn't locked it yet when the last transmission went out.

Hit the refresh button (top right, just below the X) on the vehicle status menu - this will prompt the system to ping the car and confirm current status, which will invariably confirm your doors are in fact locked.

ALWAYS hit the refresh button. The app should do this automatically if it were built properly. It was not. Why would anyone want to see the status of the car in the past? Bad program development.

I will say that I have the my gmc app for my 18 Terrain Denali, and it's the same way. You have to refresh the status. Maybe car manufacturers do it for a reason.

My best guess is that the developers don’t want you to hit their servers which then have to ping your car every time you just open the status page. Makes no real sense though.

Well that uses power in the vehicle to get a status update though, right? My guess is it's something on the vehicle end rather than the server end because like you said, that makes no sense. But if the vehicle uses power to send its status every single time, then you have potential for battery drainage especially if the app is left open or misbehaves. Just a guess though. It's certainly possible they're all lazy, but multiple manufacturers doing the same thing, makes me think they have a legit reason.

I will add that now that there are some colder days here, this app/remote start climate control is a game changer,

I previously only owned BMWs and have not experienced it, i do not know why BMW refuses to put this feature in their cars here, also aftermarket remote starts void warranty for BMW as per the dealership wtf

Well so much for improving...
September report: Car was at 11,591km (2,166km in the month) and the report said I drove 3km. Yes, 3.0 km. And I started the car twice. And the report is not actually available in the app or online, I just have it via email. And it was emailed 3 times during the day.

If the app is going to be useless, I would rather they just didn't have it at all. We will see how next month is... Any other Canadian's paying attention to the report?

I’m using the app everyday to start the car. I have saved 3 different start engine programs with different temp, defrost, and heated steering - very useful!

Issues:
- too bad it’s so slow! Why not have a simple remote start button on the key fob in addition to the app?
- the unlocked doors on the vehicle status report (when I knew I locked them) was very disconcerting until I read here that I need to refresh - that’s stupid
- heat the damn seats!
- twice I remote started, opened the rear door to grab a snow brush and the car shut off by itself a couple of minutes later - some sort of safety option?? Annoying.
- how can I switch off the blinking turn signals? I might as well tell the thieves where to find a running car!
- what happens after the 5 years free service? I have to pay to start my car remotely?? Maybe this answers my first question...it’s a future income stream for HyunGen!

Other than the above, cool app.

The slowness of the app is a deal breaker. However if you go back and leave it on the remote start screen and let it run in the background, 70% of the time it resumes to that screen and you just need to put in your pin after pressing the Start button.
To me it seems like every button you press in the app is like a web link that needs to connect to the server. Only the final command should do that. The final button should be the one connecting to the service and pinging the car!
I'm annoyed about the seats too. We get to turn in the steering but not the seats which is ridiculous. But maybe they don't want a malfunction to happen and cause the seats damage with someone in the car.
And the car shutting off when you open other doors are annoying too. Actually I can't figure out how long it takes for that to happen. One time it seemed like 5 seconds and another it seemed like 30 seconds while I was cleaning off the snow!

I wish we were able to connect the Genesis app to Gooe and start via voice command like the US. I linked it and even created a US account but no go. Also it seems like only the G80 and G90 was supported!

Right now my connected services app has stopped working. Just posts an error saying 'Car List 7999'. Was working prior to delivery and the day of but with travel I didn't have a need for it the few days after. Even logging in through the web portal shows no car associated with it, really odd. Tried to call the support line after work today and they are only open until 5pm EST through the week so yeah...

I've been getting the same error since yesterday morning. I told my GXM and he said they were aware of it.

I can see the odd glitch happening but as far as technology outages this is pretty long...
