  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Genesis G70 Lexicon Sound System

I listen off my phone while connected with usb or with my legacy iPod connected and think the sound is pretty decent. There are lows that on some systems I don’t even hear, but can with my G70. A number of months ago I removed one of the sub woofers under our seats and video’d it working back when there was a lot of doubt if those sub woofers really did much of anything? When the right song plays they do in fact kick in. When listening to the radio I listed mostly to jazz and 80s music. Our system is not perfect and there was a time in my life I would replace components and add amps and such. Not anymore, drive, have fun and keep the car clean and maintained.

Right on - me also, not worth it, system is more than good enough for what I want out of it.

Thanks for your assessment and contribution! I think the bad low-end issue may be because the subwoofers underneath the seats has a ridiculously low crossover frequency. I've only heard them turn on once in the entire time I've owned the G70, and it was very noticeable. Did you manage to hear those in use?

Have you used the Burmeister (Mercedes), Bang & Olufsen (Volvo), or ELS (Acura) sound systems before to provide a point of comparison? Reviewers say those are the ones to beat in the segment. The Mark Levinson (Lexus) is also pretty good.
You are welcome. The subs are just not very loud, or good, but they are just good enough to give some of that low end punch. If they were not active, you would notice, there would be a little 'oomph' missing. If you really want to hear them, you need to play some content that is super low bass heavy, then they will show up in a noticeable way.

what should i be doing to get the best sound out of this system??
When I test drove the G70, Brandy’s “I Wanna Be Down” came on XM Radio I was VERY impressed by the bass response. I have a X3 M40i with the Harmon Kardon audio and the subs are under the front seats as well. The bass in the G70 is far better than in my BMW. The BMW also suffers from no upper mid-bass response. The M40i has tons of tweeters and midranges but no woofers in the doors like in the G70.

VCircle hit the nail on the head, I feel. I may have chimed in on this thread earlier and mentioned that as a Hearing Specialist, I value sound quality over SPL.

RiteOne-What are you wanting out of the system is probably a better place to start.
Hearing is subjective and depends on a myriad of factors. Do you have Audience Mode or one of those setting on?

if you want to see specs and speaker locations plus a whole lot of marketing drivel in which is mixed some good info, you can visit the Lexicon-Genesis site here: Genesis

What settings do you have on the G70 head unit? What is your sound source?

If you're interested in more oomph, one thing I do not recommend you doing is adding a 1500W amp with dual 12" subwoofers. Even with a rheostat to moderate the bass, there are some songs (and even some XM channels) where even at its lowest setting, it's simply too much bass. Don't go above a single 12 if you are adding a sub. Of course, this is all highly subjective, but... trust me on this one.

That sounds like my sound setup in my previous car. It had an aftermarket with proper pre-outs and full crossover control though unlike the hack job that seems to be required with the G70.

I've only had the G70 for a week and still adjusting to the sound system.

At first, the system sounded poor, but then I found the surround sound mode and disabled it. That cleared up the soundstage.

I also moved the system a couple of notches to the back as the vocals did not seem to be well centered. This of course will be impacted by your seating position.

I found a good write up on the G70 system here:

I usually start all sound systems in neutral and play a variety of music, especially tracks I know well. Unless I am at stadium concert, I value clarity over loudness.

great first post!

Yeah, I don't recommend any of the Genesis unique sound modes. They seemingly use some algorithm to move different types of sounds to different speakers, and it just sounds like a random mess. I really wanted to use it and like it, but it's just disorienting.

I love the sound system, huge bass and crystal clear sound with surround sound !! I was initially disappointed with it until after playing around i noticed surround sound was not turned on an i believe its called concert mode or something like that which made it sound 10x better
I agree. The on stage mode works well too for a more direct sound and the audience mode is great for a really nice surround effect. I think it’s very clear and has great bass too.

Well, I don't know if you need to do a hack job on the G70, but it would require running speaker-level outs to an outboard processor which would then convert them to line-level / preamp outs for either use with an outboard multi-channel amp, or a sub or all of the above. Crutchfield has about 30 processors that would do the job. It's just expensive and a real PIA. If I could control the volume on the underseat subs, the crossover point, and have access to a multi-band eq, I would be good.

I also have the soundstage and the clari-fi turned off. The soundstage screws up instrument and vocal placement, and the Clari-fi processing adds to the metallic harshness of the highs in my ears, I wish they would let you adjust the wet/dry processed signal ratio.

I’m about to pull the trigger on a Kicker Key 500.1 amplifier. It has a built in DSP, auto gain matching, “auto EQ”, high level input (up to 40V) and a bunch of other features. It was designed to be used with factory systems without the need for a line output converter or DSP. They also make a Key 200.4 for your component mids and highs. I plan on pairing this with a JL Audio W3v3 10” sub in their “High output” wedge box. I’ll report back here on how it sounds after it’s all put together.
I’m in the same boat as far as Clari-fi off and soundstage off. With anyone one of those advanced options turned on, everything gets messy and weird. Like Kusa said...you wanna like it and use those settings. But eventually you just realize it just sounds better with them off.
A 15 band EQ would be wonderful 😁

That sounds fantastic. I look forward to hearing back from you.

Has anyone tried using the AUX input with high quality files (e.g. FLAC) and a multi-band EQ? My thought is that if you had a better EQ, you could drop down the upper end of the bass range and then push the volume to boost low end bass.

I'm not sure if people know this, but the ClariFi system is a BBE-style processor. It's trying to add the series harmonics, both sub and super (above and below the note) which many compression algorithms remove to save space. It's also literally trying to replace primary audio info, if it determines it's missing (like if there is no info about say 7k or 10k, removed by low sampling rates or compression). This kind of restoration almost always sounds harsh, it's very difficult to do in a general sense. All single notes in nature actually contain the 1, 3 and 5 of that note, both above and below. That's called the harmonic series. That's a major triad, and that is why major chords in music sound so satisfying, because they exist physically around every note. You can hear this phenomenon on say, a guitar by resting your finger lightly on the string over the 5th, 7th, or 12th frets, you can produce those overtones that way. FYI.
