3.3T Genesis G70 Oil and Filter change (how-to)

I always top off to the full mark, but where you have it now is perfectly fine. And it's always going to be a bit different with each oil change, so don't worry about it. I never bother measuring how much it gets out; just pour enough to get it to the top mark, and you're done. With the drain plug behind the oil pan, putting the front of the car on ramps is perfect. I also let oil drain for at least 1/2-hr, while I do other crap. And always change the drain plug for a magnetic one (I use GoldPlug myself), which is better than not having one . The drain plug threads are 14mm x 1.5, by the way.

Just a heads-up guys.....As I noted in my earlier post, I did the first oil change on my 2022 3.3T at around 2000 miles. I had ordered the oil and filter from Amazon. The filter that I ordered was the Wix WL10237. When I pulled the oem filter out, it clearly did not look the same as the Wix filter but I went ahead and used the Wix because the Wix website said it fit and I was at the point of no return of the oil change.

What bothered me, and has bothered me for about 3K miles is the hard raised edge on both ends of the Wix compared to the oem which doesn't have them. The oem filter that came out looked more like the one on the right in the 3rd picture below. That PG filter however does not show an exact fit to the 2022 - it shows '21 and earlier models.

To further confuse matters, the oem part number for the 2022 3.3T is 26320 3LTA0 and the oem part number for the pre 2022 is 26220 3LTA0.

So, I have put about 3K hard riding on my G70 since that oil change and I am about ready to do another oil change and I want to make sure I use the correct filter this time. I went to my local Genesis dealer yesterday and picked up a new oil filter. It was only $17.62 plus tax and it included the o-ring and crush washer. See pics below.

I don't know about you guys but it doesn't take a mechanical engineer ( I am one) to notice that there is a visible physical difference between the WIX 10237 and the oem filter. Now we can argue that it doesn't make any difference but how does anyone really know? Does Wix know better than Genesis on how to design an oil filter for their engine? To me, it is not worth it to save $5-7 on an oil filter that may potentially damage my precious high performance, high tech engine.

Yes, the majority of Genesis owners probably take their cars to a Jiffy Lube or wherever at least half the time over the life of their car and have no idea what is being used, but it could be an issue down the line and something to pay attention to with used cars and engine problems. Not sure what Wix is thinking but it could be a legal issue too.

I ordered both a Wix and the PG filter for measuring/comparing to the oem and will post that when I get them from Amazon.

The Wix I bought was like that too. Pretty significant size difference. The local dealership had OEM filer for a few dollars more. So I just did the oil change with OEM. I'm probably going to give away my WIX oil filters since I don't think it's worth the risk/worry over a few dollars.

Easy question: I have a 2022 2.0T and I plan on doing my oil/filer changes myself.

Where is the oil filter located on the 2.0T engine?

I know you come at it from below. But is it near the front of the engine? The rear? Driver's side? Passenger's? I ask because it's so much easier if you pre-plan and know where to look before slithering under a car on plastic ramps. And given what I've seen in the videos, it may or may not be hidden by a port under the front air dam.

PS: Should the plastic ramps fail I doubt the family would shed a tear over my crushed skull. They'd certainly would start a fight over who gets to inherit the car. ;-)

Take the engine compartment cover off and it'll be staring right at you. See blue thingy's relative position to the drain plug (A).

I don't remember where exactly the filter is, or what has to be removed, since I did both the G70 2.0T and SF 2.5T almost back to back, and that was several months ago. But it was easy to get to, the filter is the old blue canister (metal) one, and the drain plug is at the rear of the oil pan, so no need to lift the rear at all. The SF has a drain plug on the oil filter, so even easier (and less mess). Anyway, an easy oil change on Rhino ramps. Hope this helps.

It's nearly 70F on the 3rd of Jan 2023, so I changed my oil. Because why the heck not! ;-)

Question: Is there somewhere on the screen where I "reset" the oil-change timer? I recorded the info on paper and I'm keeping the receipts. But I suspect the car will complain at some point if I don't tell it that I've done the service myself. I thought I read somewhere how this is done but I can't seem to find the source at this time.

On my 2022 3.3 RWD Sport Prestige, I do it from the tombstone cluster: Vehicle>Cluster>Service Interval

When you get to the Service Interval screen, there is an option to reset to zero and options if you want to change the interval frequency (miles/time).

On the internet there are instructions to do it from the steering wheel using the PAGE button which supposedly applies to all 2019-2022 models but on my 2022 3.3 RWD Sport Prestige this didn't work.

Just changed my oil again over the weekend. It was close enough to needing it based on miles and like you it was nice and warm outside and didn't want to have to do it later when the temps drop again.

Thank you. I found this but thought (as had been the case with my old Honda) there'd be a more specific setting to reset. Not a big deal... I usually do the oil on a 3 or 4 thousand multiple, which is pretty easy to remember.

I don't understand what you mean by "more specific". You can set the service reminder for most any interval of miles and/or time (3000 miles, 3500 miles, 5000 mile, 3 months, 6 months, 1 year etc).

Then, when you get close to that interval (miles or time), you will get an audio alert and a visual alert in the dash cluster every time you start the car. The visual alert displays how many miles are left before the interval is reached.

Once you change the oil, you just go to that screen again and reset the reminder. Literally takes about 5 seconds.

Maybe I am not understanding what you are looking for here.

I suspect that he was expecting it to be more like some of my other cars, which had separate reminders for engine oil/filter, climate control filter, engine air filter, and so on. It also seemed like they were not just based on mileage, but factored in some operational details.

Could be.

While on that subject, it is curious that Genesis seems to have taken a retro approach to this with only an oil/filter reminder configurable with all other maintenance items stated at specific mileages in the owners manual.

Even the oil change intervals specified in the manual are very conservative based on what other car makers are doing. Heck, my V6 2012 Mercedes ML would often go almost 15K before the computer told me it was time to change the oil. Of course, that oil change also often came with a Service A or Service B which would be hundreds of dollars if done by the MB dealer. My V8 2019 Yukon would go 8K before the computer said it was time.

I'm still changing my G70 at 3,500 miles because I drive it fairly hard and it rarely sees long periods on the interstates................I don't drive a lot of miles like I used to so I am OK changing it myself in about an hour's time and cost of about $75 is a small price to pay for protection.

You can go 5K OCIs without any worries, especially if you're using synthetic oil. No need any sooner than that, and I'm overly conservative on maintenance.

I guess you are responding to my post.

5K miles, I think that is stretching it for my driving style especially when the "Normal Driving" interval is 6K miles with full synthetic.

But be sure to provide an address where people can send you the bill when their engines develop problems based on your advice (rather than going by the advice of their owners manual or dealer).

I would bet, if you did a UOA even under severe conditions at 5K miles, it would say the oil is good. I did this on mine with 2 track days on the oil, and it was well within normal ranges.

My previous car, a Honda CR-Z (yeah, Z as in Zebra, a manual transmission hybrid) had an easy-to-reset reminder for the oil change, based on how you drove, long or short drives, etc. I was thinking that the G70 might have something similar. I'm sorry I wasn't more clear in asking my question or if I sounded curt in my response to WJH.

Another reason, I suppose, I was looking for something specific for the oil was the unfortunate history with Hundai and/or Kia engines. Also, I get a monthly email from my local dealer reminding me it's time to change my spark plugs. Clearly I can't be looking to them for helpful advice on car maintenance. New plugs at 3700 miles? Come on,.. . Also, for about two months the Genesis owner's site claimed my 2022 car had over one million miles. They did eventually fix the error after I opened a support ticket.

So, here I am, new to this Genesis forum. I've read all the messages on this particular thread. I've not seen anywhere that somebody has mentioned that Genesis would not honor their warranty if the owner had performed their oil maintenance on their new G70. My dealership stated that my warranty would be void if I were to change my own oil. Allow me to clarify, the sales person told me they would not honor their warranty on my 2023 G70, if I were to change my own oil and filter. Does anyone have any information on this from Genesis?

So, here I am, new to this Genesis forum. I've read all the messages on this particular thread. I wouldn't be concerned with anything a salesman says. If anything visit the service department and ask how you should document your oil changes so there are no issues in the future.

Thanks Jetrep. I may do that tomorrow. I would rather change my own oil at my own expense, than have somebody that cares nothing about my car.
