  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Genesis G80 - V6 or V8? What will be available?

Cadillac is making some very nice product, too bad their infotainment system is garbage. Really need to dump Cue already.

Truer words have never been spoken! I get a lot of cadillacs for rental cars and man that CUE system is just the worst. Give me a damn volume and tune knob already!

After talking with some folks who were working with HMA recently, I'm starting to feel pretty sure that the 2017 G80 will just be a rebadged 2016 and that the midcycle refresh will be the 2018, at which point we'll see a 3.3 TT variant and other changes. This is further supported by this at the Detroit show.

A cladded/refreshed G80 is currently undergoing track testing.

If the refreshed G80 were to make to the US for the supposed summer/fall timeline, it would be cutting it extremely close as it would require the Korean market launch within the next month or 2.

Refreshes are usually after 3 years, and rarely delayed beyond that. A refresh almost always includes revised tail lights, plus whatever else they think is important to fix and have to time to do.

I still think there is an outside chance that the 2017 G80 will have new tail lights, since it is a simple change to make. But I am not putting any money on it. If so, then Nikgen will have to buy yet another Genesis, for three straight model years in a row (or maybe he can just install the new tail lights, and rebadge his 2016).

I'm pretty confident we'll see an update to headlights and taillights on the 2017 Genesis G80. And, yes - I'm sure they'd be interchangeable with the 2016 Hyundai Genesis Sedan...

thats looks like mostly an appearance package...and I guess similar to what BMW offers as their sports package

Warren

Dude are you a troll? Did you even read? The Vsport uses a 3.6TT producing 400hp and 430tq and weighs roughly 400 lbs less than the G80.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
The CTS V-Sport came to be because people wanted something more than a 330hp naturally aspirated V6 in a midsize Cadillac but the 556hp supercharged V8 was overkill. The CTS V-Sport is something in-between and competes with cars like the BMW 550i and Mercedes-Benz E400...

What doesn't make sense is why Hyundai would show the current Genesis as the G80 at the Auto Show while launching their new brand. It doesn't make sense, you would want to show off the new look/the updates so people would talk about that, instead everyone says "the G80 is a rebadged Genesis with no changes." I've read some reports from people also stating they think the G80 will be refreshed/updated from the current Genesis before it's launched but Hyundai showing the current Genesis as the G80 makes absolutely no sense to me if that won't be the actual model that launches. You're taking some steam away from your own product by doing that.

Agreed - given what they showed in Detroit and comments from Hyundai execs made there, it would make no sense for the 2017 G80 to be be anything more that a rebadged 2016 Genesis. The refresh will likely be the 2018.

Yep - the CTS V-Sport is no mere appearance package, unlike the GS F-Sport.

Yes, you would want to show off any new changes to included in the G80 this summer or fall. But what if those changes are not ready yet?

Then you don't show a rebadged 2016 Genesis as the G80 in Detroit - you hold off until the NYC show in March!

That is one option. But that has some disadvantages also.

I am not saying that I know what will happen. We will have to wait and see.

Me either - but the fact it's also on the Genesis Motors USA site makes me believe that any real changes beyond rebadging will be with the 2018 model. As you said, we'll have to wait and see though...

I would think the G90 would be the best place to look for any refreshes to the G80, whether it be 2017 or 2018. That would allow the G90 to stay a year ahead of the G80. Just my guess.

As much as I love the current 3.8 even with the reduction to only 311 hp I believe it should be replaced with the new 3.3 TTV6 for the Genesis G80.

Looking at the current segment, as well as near FUTURE engines, the midsize lineup for mid-range engines will be:

Next gen Audi A6: Engine shared with 2017 S4 3.0 Turbocharged V6 354 hp 369 lb-ft
Next gen BMW 5-Series (540i): Engine shared with new 340i 3.0 Turbo I6 320 hp 340 lb-ft
Mid-Refresh Cadillac CTS: 3.6 V6 335 hp 285 lb-ft
Genesis G80 3.3 TT V6 365 hp 379 lb-ft
Jaguar XF 35t/XF-S: 3.0 Supercharged V6 340 hp 332 lb-ft/380 hp 332 lb-ft
Maserati Ghibli/Gihibli S: 3.0 TT V6 345 hp 369 lb-ft/404 hp 406 lb-ft
Mercedes Benz E400/E43 AMG(yes this is real): 3.0 TT V6 329 hp 354 lb-ft/362 hp 384 lb-ft

This engine will be in the upper midpack but it is a much needed engine given the G80's heft.

Also this can't replace the 5.0 V8 unless they upped the power to the loww 400 hp range.

I bet it will be replaced - but many signs are pointing to that not happening with the 1st year G80.

The 3.3 TT looks great. The peak torque is just a hair shy of the 5.0 peak, but is available over a really wide range of 1,300-4,500 RPM - that will make for a really responsive car!

no...have you read what is available in the BMW's sports package?

and again
I dont think the G80 is slotted to compete against that Cadillac

why would you?

Warren

And the Genesis G80...

not even

but good luck with that idea
if you think the G80 is competing with the E class /5 series..you are mistaken

perhaps the 3 series/C class

You don't think the G80 would compete against the CTS? I can't even begin to imagine why you think they WOULDN'T compete. The CTS and the G80 are slotted in the same segment as the A6, 5 series, and E class.
