If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. Genesis Lighting

Sheesh, Phil, who's car is it anyways? OUCH [cmr gets whacked by SO]

cmr

hehe....LOL.....we all know there are two answers to THAT one, and we're smart enough to know which answer is the one that counts. (That would be the answer that keeps us out of trouble):)

Hey GS300rich: Do you know of any way to (I guess the word would be disconnect) the daytime running light so it won't turn on when you turn on the HID lights? I just want the HID lights to turn on not both at the same time.

If you know, or if anone know, please share! Thank you.

On my GS there is a way to mess with the wires so that it turns off totally, it would be the same way on the Genesis I assume but I am not brave enough to start messing with that yet.

Diode Dynamics;

Once you get all your shipments in have you thought about putting a "Genesis Package" together? Something like: 1ea glove box, 2ea front floor, 4ea door bottom, 2ea trunk, 2ea license plate. All in matching bright white. Just a thought!

Yes! I will be doing that! :)

Turning off the "running lights" while the HIDs are on would be great but I'd be even happier if we could find a way to REPLACE the RUNNING LIGHTS with a single or multi high-intensity LED. Imagine how much better that would look especially when in the parking light only mode.... I've been looking at it but I think you'd have to take the whole headlight assembly out and do major surgery... anyone know of a better way?

cheers!

I wish someone made LED replacement bulbs for the actual headlights instead of just HID's.

check out Audi A6, and their sseries. The daytime running lights are the leds under the headlights, but its a step in the right direction. Its coming :D

superbrightleds.com Everything I tried I got from them. Superfast shipping and they are high quality bulbs. On the trunk lights I had to "modify" the contacts to accept the larger 37mm bulb. Basically you just have to get some small needle nose pliers and bend the contacts out a bit so the 37mm bulb fits in there snugly, and I do mean snugly. The OEM is a 30mm I believe.

Great job on the lighting! BTW, for anyone interested in the Festoon bulbs for the trunk, they are exactly a 31mm bulb.

superbrightleds.com is a great site in which I have ordered bulbs from for past cars, but for certain bulbs they carry odd sizes that for some applications and do not fit very well, or require a mod to the bulb or light fixture.

I find great lighting at autolumination.com which carries the 31mm festoon bulbs. For the 6 high powered LED truck bulbs I paid $10.99 each. They're fantastic.

I do agree that people should look for a higher powered LED wedge bulb for the courtesy lights as some LED's are just not bright enough for my taste, as I have found out the hard way and reordered more powerful bulbs.

I just ordered a bunch of LEDs from VLEDs.com for my Lexus and when they come in on monday I have a feeling I will have a great candidate for the courtesy lights. I will post up when I have them installed

I am still looking for a better light for the courtesy light as the 1 LED just isnt bright enough. If anyone has any recommendations let me know

Regarding the courtesy lights... I was going the parts catalog at www.superbrightleds.com. I noticed that they have an alternate single LED that has greater power (60 lumens) and the following specifications...
Part num: WLED-NWLX
Color: Natural White
Brightness: 60 lumens
Voltage: 8~30V
Current Draw @ 12V 70 mA
Dominant Wavelength: 6000K
Beam Angle: 120 degrees

This light has approx. the same dimensions as the 12 LED light you considered but has a warmer (less bluish) colour and a greater brightness. Is there a reason why you did not consider this bulb? By the way, you said in your earlier post that the 12 LED light was a tight fit. Since the bulb I am considering has about the same dimensions, what type of problems can I expect during installation?

Bernie- I'm sure GS300rich will respond, but having gone through this, I'll throw in my 2 cents. Additional comments are on my 12/11/08 post in this thread.

I went with an 8 LED module that I got at Pep Boys. It's made by Pilot---

As you can see, it is 'universal' and works to replace many different bulbs.
It fit under the doors just fine-

.
I also used it in my glove box and on the foot wells. Cost- $19 each. You can see the finished result here- http://www.genesisowners.com/hyundai-genesis-forum/album.php?albumid=74 It's a cool white, but not a blue in my opinion. It is definately not warm white. But on my Platinum finish, the cool while really looks great!

I personally like the multi LED modules because even tho the pulb from Superbrights is really bright and it has 120 degree dispersion, that is 120 degrees from straight on. Under the doors, you won't get a straight shot at the socket.

Yes, I had a look at the Pilot IP-078W. Just wondered how you went about mounting the Pilot IP-078W onto the plastic diffuser since it is not socketed. From what I can tell, the kit comes with double-sided tape. Did you mount the board onto the bottom portion of the plastic diffuser using double-sided tape or did you mount the board onto the portion of the plastic diffuser that held the original OEM bulb.

Yes the 12 LED bulb is too blue for my taste. I have found another site, vleds.com, and just received about $250 worth of lights for my GS. The GS courtesy lights and Genesis courtesy lights are the same bulb, and the bulbs I ordered for the GS courtesy lights are super white and super bright, and I think they will match the interior lights of the genesis perfectly. Here is a link to the light, it is $19.99 for a pair so you will need 2 sets, I know the price is a little high but this is as close as you are going to get to matching the rest of the lights. I will take the lights out of my Lexus and put them in the Genesis to take some pics and hopefully get them up tonight or tomorrow.

Bernie, the 12 LED bulb was very tight but required no modification to fit. There is a surprising amount of room in there and I was quite surprised that such a large bulb will fit. Hold off on that bulb until I can post the pics of the new courtesy lights I am going to install.

Forgot to add a pic of the bulb, also does anyone know how to go back and edit my original post on page 1? That function isnt available on those posts.

Good question, but I did nothing. I simply set it into the clear diffuser and pressed it all back into the housing. The foam backing on the LED panel acts like 'packing' and there is zero movement.

Just upgraded puddle lights (4), trunk (2), and license plate (2), and WOW what a difference. I took off work early thinking it would take a lot of time to do. The instructions posted here were invaluable and I was completely finished in about an hour. Was able to make the slight mods to the brackets with no issues, and didn't break a single thing (a record for me folks.....). I also put the airbag wing badge over the H and it looks pretty good (a little too shiny maybe - would like to see it toned down a little).

Thanks to all, but especially to GS300rich for his perfect step-by-step and photos.:grouphug:

your welcome, Genesis@genesisworld has also done a ton of work on the lighting. I think doing these lighting mods is almost a must as the OEM bulbs dont really compare to the rest of the interior lighting of the genesis. My favorite would have to be either the license plate lights or the trunk lights. I just love the way the license plate lights look at night

Sure thing! I just updated it actually. I need to get festoon bulbs in stock for you guys, but I think the 194 1-watt LED bulbs will work well as courtesy lights. AND my prices are better than anywhere else. :)

Any word on the Angel Eyes for the Genesis yet???:D

Great info. The pics are very helpful. Has anyone replaced the daytime running lights w/HID bulbs? I think the correct setup is a 168/194? If so, I'm interested to hear the results.
