  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Genesis Lighting

I would also be interested in a list of bulb sizes and where they go. Would like to get the whiter, brighter lights all around.

I left a post on this thread a couple days ago expressing dismay as to why anyone would want to replace the dome lights in their Genesis with lights that are even colder and harsher than the ones that come from the factory. Well now I understand all the other posts on this thread because I just discovered that my 2012 Genesis 4.6 has entirely different interior lighting that the previous models. For example, the 4 dome lights are already LED. I have no problem with LED, but I do have a problem with the fact that the LED color is very cold and purplish, it's focused into a bright narrow spot, and it's very harsh. Also, the foot well lights and the underdoor courtesy lights do not have festoon style lamps. They are incandescents, but they are conventional socket style lamps. I didn't discover that until today when the festoon LED replacement lamps arrived in the mail and tried to install them.

So now I need to figure out where I can find dome light housings and incandescent lamps from a 2009-2011 Genesis for a reasonable price. They look like they've be much warmer and less harsh and focused. The fact that all the other interior lamps are incandescent makes these bright bluish LED's in the dome out of place. I'm not sure what Hyundai was thinking.

Gentlefolks, want to help my daughter with lights... She owns Genesis 2T premium 2011. Model has no HID, and I was thinking if I can replace/install HID to either fog lights or head lights.
Is the car comes "HID ready"? As I saw that Advanced auto parts is selling HID bulbs for ~ $100, and can I just get those and swap or it requires additional hardware.

Thx for help

You will need an HID kit, which come with the bulbs and also 2 ballasts. The bulbs have the wires connected to them which attach into the ballasts. Those bulbs at the store for $100 sound like a rip off and probably are a halogen bulb.

You can get an HID kit for around $100 on the web, which comes with everything you need.

Hi there guys.
I just joined this forum and I do have a quick question.

Thanks in advance.

Hello just got a Genesis and liking it so far. I just received my bulbs and I was trying to change them out but I could not even change one of them. First I was doing the license plate but I couldn't wiggle it out. Then I tried the trunk lights, and got this one out. But I couldn't get into the spot to change the light bulbs. I pulled it, tried to look for clips but I did not want to break anything so I gave up on that. Then I tried the mirror lights on top of the car. Got the cover out but couldn't figure out how to pull out the bulbs. Can someone make a DIY for this. I think I may just bring it to somewhere and pay them a few bucks. This is a good thread but wish there was a guide showing us how to pull out each of the bulbs.

I might be getting a little too finicky, but has anyone looked into replacing the red anti-theft indicator light in the dash with something blue?

A friend just got a new 2008 G35, and one thing I love about the Genesis is the sophisticated, cool, calm and restrained blue LED lighting. The G35 dash and console look like a pinball machine by comparison.

As a result, I wish to eliminate all non-blue lights wherever possible!!

I also looked into this because I am changing pretty much all of my lights except for turn signals. this red blinking light on the dash is more than an anti theft detector, it is the cars auto light sensor. this is what your gen uses to determine wether its light or dark outside to turn on your automatic headlights and tail lights.

I'm pretty sure the bulb would be a photodiode, phototransistor, or an IR LED. but I am not sure. I might take it out later today and drop by radio shack to see if maybe they know what kind of bulb it is and if i can get a blue one :)

that is a very good idea crepen, although I think getting to it will be the challenge. If its anything like the anti theft light on my GS you have to get at it from inside the dash, which is a huge PITA

GS300rich- the light is very easy to remove, no need to open up the dash.

(for the genesis straight from HMAservice.com)

You can bend open the contacts a little bit. i wonder which would be easier, 29mm or 38 mm? would the smaller 29mm bulb reach both contacts and will a 38mm bulb actually fit in the housing?

I tried bending the connectors back. When I got the LED in, I noticed that the clear lens cover was distorted from the stress of having an over-sized LED installed so I reinstalled the old bulb until I can find a 31mm (Festoon) LED.

Hey all, I have a 2010 Genesis Sedan and just getting to know it. Tonight I came home, parked it in the garage and a small bright blue light is blinking on the front window drivers side. I cannot find any reference to that light in my owners' manuals. HELP. What is it and how do I turn it off?
tks

Does the light come on before or after the car is locked? It may be an indicator for the anti-theft system. My 2010 has a blinking light as well, but mine is red.

my 2010's anti theft indicator light is red as well. odd that his is blue... i wish mine was blue:( lol

If the car has an aftermarket remote start, it might have a 'blinking blue light on the window' as mine does. The factory anti theft LED is indeed red.

How did you get a 37mm LED to fit in the trunk? The sizing calls for a 31mm LED.

I tried 37mm and for my use it's just too large to fit in the housing, so I'm using 31mm LEDs as well.

I'm trying to figure out how to easily remove the courtesy lights...does the entire door panel have to come off or is there an easier way??

Nothing on this car is EASY to do...LoL...

:(

I can agree with you on most aspects of having a 'warm' inviting interior, with incandescent bulbs. But the harsh reality is that I am 55 years old and wear progressive lens eyeglasses. I'm at the point in my life where yes, I'm driving a nice luxury car, but at the same time, my eyesight requires better lighting. Not all of us out here are 20- or 30-somethings with excellent eyesight. I even now carry a small LED flashlight in my pocket for those restaurants that see fit to keep the lighting so dim it's even hard to read menu at times.....so the ''harsh" led to you is just FINE by my standards...LoL....don't know how old you are or the condition of your eyesight, but maybe you'll see what I'm talking about.... ;)

I guess I must be out of touch with the times when I comes to lighting. The first thing I noticed with my new Genesis at night was the harsh interior overhead courtesy lights. Maybe I just need to give it some time to get used to the effect because it's very different than the warm inviting interior lighting that my old car had. Yet everyone on this thread wants to replace any warm incandescent lighting with cold LED lighting. Because I find the OEM overhead courtesy lights to be very cold and unflattering, I would like to replace them with incandescents to make skin tones more lifelike and to warm up the entire interior. I have the cashmere interior which has kind of a pale washed-out looking color, and the cold LED courtesy lighting makes it even more washed out looking. Am I missing something here? Why does everyone on this thread except for me seem to prefer the cool color tones? I realize that these lights actually show "truer" colors, but I still find them harsh and uninviting compared to warmth of incandescent lamps.

Grab a small flat-head screwdriver and the lens for the courtesy light pops off. Then just pull the wedge bulb in and install the new bulb.
