  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Genesis Owners: What vehicle did your Genesis replace?

I was just talking about this to someone the other day. Often getting someone to pick up your car, or get free loaner cars for service, etc are what people with luxury vehicles are used to and they may have a hard time adjusting to the downgraded and limited service that Hyundai offers.

I'm surprised more of the people who have went from Lexus or BMW, etc haven't mentioned this.

I've had to drop the car off twice (once for a factory-related issue, and once for a "correction" from the previous visit). Both times I've received a service loaner. While I didn't believe there was a lot of communication (it seemed to be a monologue on my part), the problems were taken care of and I had something to drive each time. I'm glad as I use my car in my work--the need to travel is greatly impeded if I'm sitting in a service center/showroom. I will admit that the sales mgmt/staff seemed to be more motivated than the service management and staff. Admittedly, they did get the issues at hand resolved, and did so in decent time. Keep in mind that I was the first Genesis owner this dealer had--it was the most expensive vehicle on their lot! When I bought it (when the deal officially closed), the sales mgr, finance mgr., and a couple of other guys came by to shake my hand as the first Gen owner in town! I don't know if that ultimately had anything to do with the level of service provided or not, but it seemed to work out pretty well in the end.

Drove from Birmingham to Decatur, Al everyday for 3.5 years.

This is my first Hyundai...

I was driving a partially loaded 2008 Cadillac DTS from Oct 2007 to April 2008 when I was in an accident and it was totalled. Been looking at replacing it with a Mercedes S class while driving an old 1988 928S/4 Porsche in the interim.

The day I was going to the Mercedes dealership, the Drive section of the local paper posted a review of the Genesis that had me so intrigued that I went to my local Hyundai dealership first. Liked the car but there were some features that I wanted (like air cooled front passenger seat and the same adjustments as the driver's side, like what's up with that... I want my partner to be as comfortable as I am!) so I deferred a buying decision and went to the Mercedes dealership to check out some used S class vehicles.

Long story short... is I LOVE my new Genesis and have had it since Labor Day and when the wife gets a hot flash I let her drive! LOL!!

So who's going to be the first to retrofit the cooling system to the passenger side?

If they're smart they'll offer an uplevel package that includes all of the features available elsewhere for 2010.

1999 Ford Mustang 3.8L V6, manual gearbox, 88,000 miles. I had it for 9 years, but eventually I realized I wanted a bit of comfort in my driving life.

I found all the comfort (and features!) I need with my Genesis V6. :D

I traded a 2007 Azera with 14k miles (someone got a really fine car there). I certainly didn’t need the Genesis. I just wanted that Tech Package.

My wife's V8 Tech 5 black pearl with black leather replaced a loaded 2002 530i BMW sport package. This car stickered at $10,000 less then the BMW did in 2002 and has more features.

My lease is up on my 2004 Audi A6 with the 2.7T Biturbo engine and I replaced it with the V8 black/black Tech package. The ride is much smoother and alot quieter. Love everything in this car. I would prefer the outside mirrors lower by a couple of inches. The only complaint come from my wife - she wants the passenger seat to be height ajustable.

I've been a BMW 3 series guy for the past 12 years. My 2006 330i is coming off lease in January and I've taken the plunge and ordered a 4.6 genesis/tech package for January delivery. Drove the 3.8/tech and was sold on a new direction...more luxury, less harshness on our dilapidated roads, although I still like a firmer than mushier ride.

If I buy/lease a Genesis it will be to replace my 08 BMW 535 coming off lease. I do have a question--I have always enjoyed the high level of knowledge/service I've received from Acura, Audi and BMW sales and service people. In my short exchange with the Hyundai sales person I discovered I knew 2x as much about this car as he did. That makes me nervous--I also wonder about service. My BMW dealer drives out to pick up my car when I need an oil change and leaves me a car to drive while he has it. I have a hard time believing that Hyundai really knows how to take care of demanding luxury car purchasers like me... ;) I would be interested to know your experience with both Hyundai the company and your local dealer.

I'm a little leary myself. When I ordered the 4.6/tech package in titanium grey metallic, the dealer could not say what the interior leather trim would be. Here in Canada, we don't have the choice of interior colors with each exterior color. I believe the interior will be black leather with saddle leather trim, but am waiting to hear from the dealer to confirm this.

However, they have agreed to provide a loaner when I service the car, and they also agreed to provide me with a vehicle if the genesis does not arrive by the end of my 330i lease in January. It seems like they are trying to please.

Gave up a 2003 Cadillac Seville SLS with 90K miles for a 4.6 Titanium Grey with Black interior and saddle trim. Looks classy and MSRP was $8,495.00 less than the Cadillac was in 2003.

Just leased a platinum metallic/jet black interior V8 with the tech package last week. The lease is up on my 2006 Infiniti M Sport loaded with every option including the aero kit (MSRP was $52K). I love the new car, especially its smooth ride and incredible reserve of power. The little touches like the power sunshade are great. I wish it was as sporty looking as the M with aero and the V8's wheels are not as beautiful. The 2 things I will miss most is Sirius radio (superior to XM) and the active cruise control that matched the speed of traffic in front of the car. The 2 best features in the Genesis that the Infiniti did not have are Nav traffic and rain sensing windsheild wipers. I ordered the wing badges 3 weeks before buying and had them installed by the dealer. They look great. I am waiting for some aftermarket company to come out with wing logo wheel inserts for the V8 wheels and am also considering the replacement airbag unit with the wing logo but am not sure it's worth the $300 plus labor.

I will miss most is Sirius radio (superior to XM)...

A good friend of mine (not a Gen owner) replaced a stolen Sirius radio in one of his OTR trucks. When the conversation ended w/the CSR @ Sirius, he ended up w/a new radio and an annual subscription that included both Sirius and XM channels--both gratis.

I think we'll see more of this programming merge since the two companies have merged.

Dan is right on, the merger has been approved and they are working on 'repackaging' their offerings. The only thing you have to watch, with either, is when you call the CSR they are anxious to switch you from your 1yr free plan to one of their latest offerings. If that is not an issue for you, I would guess you could switch today.

I think this has been resolved in another thread. [can't find it at the moment] The 18" wheel caps work on both the 3.8 & 4.6. I was just at a dealer yesterday and looked at a 4.6 with the stock wings and caps from KAI and they looked absolutely great.

previous two cars were an 2005 Subaru GT limited wagon (great car), turbo, awd, 5 speed manual.
2006 VW Passat 2.0t automatic (can you say electrical problems).

Love the 3.8 Genesis more each day.

I don't mean to nitpick, but XM radio is actually higher quality (better bitrate, less compression) than Sirius radio. I had Sirius in my VW and I did a little research online.

Perhaps you mean the content (Howard Stern?) is better on Sirius? That's a more subjective thing... :D

In any case, :welcome:

Actually, the 18" wheel cap, as advertised on KAI, will NOT work on the V8 18" wheels. You have to get the 17" wheel caps to put on the V8 18" wheels.
