I would presume that Hyundai was notified early on before the public which triggered their free tire swap making them look like angels, all the while knowning that Hankook would be footing the bill.![]()
I doubt it - Hyundai would have huge liability if someone got injured and it was shown that they knew that there was a safety defect and had only made the replacement optional. They might have had some concerns upfront, but I think this evolved into a safety defect over time as they got more info/analyzed samples as they indicated.
