Loose Leather on Driver Seat

Thanks guys for the feedback. From the sampling here, Hyundai should get a new seat contractor in Korea and get ready for large numbers of seat change outs.

Still looking for dealer answers on the brake failures and tie in to the fluid change.. And the root cause of this.

Hi - new forum member - 6 month owner with many issues already!! I had the wrinkles after a week of use - not sure how bad all of you are talking about - as stated before - pictures would be great - can we get them on here and if so how?? I was told - its leather that's what it does! Maybe I should stick to vinyl.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
What we do know... Multiple problems, defects, design flaws, that are very repeatable with so many in here having the same problems.

The brakes failing (supposed to be "fixed" with some switch to DOT4.. Likely means internal are susceptible to some kind of moisture, temp, corrosion or some defective design).

And all the other repeatable items already mentioned above. If high volumes of these cars were out there, it would be in the public domain for sure.

I have growing disappointment. The car has so much promise and I enjoy it very much. However, with my other cars/trucks I currently own and previous cars/trucks owned, I have never seen this.

Here is a decent shot of the seat of my 2300 mile old Genesis. I wonder when the passenger or back seats will show this. The pictures are not perfect. However you can see the stretching easy.

While I am at this... My 160 gig Apple iPod I use in the Genesis works great. Too bad the DIS sucks.. It combines music, podcasts, books, manual recordings, all together in any category. "Music", all podcasts and books are cluttering it up. "Albums", and artists the same. Podcast category also has all music showing up. Makes it horrible to search on the display. Ford Sync does not have this problem. And it works well with my iPhone. The voice recognition does a decent job however. Not even close to Ford Sync I have in other vehicles. Same for Bluetooth. While this is not defects per say, they are design flaws, or inferior operation.

This made me giggle a little bit. I thought I was picky lol

Good or bad all of this stuff (umm issues/problems/discontents) will surface in magazines and other media...consumer reports is asking me to complete an online survery of the car. I'll be as honest as possible. Seats (negative), Radio/Nav/Ipod/Bluetooth (negative), Ride (neutral trending towards positive), Fit and finish (mostly positive). For kicks I navigated over to and read a few other auto forums and yes, indeed, we are not the only owners who have issues with our cars. I read on Bimmerfest about their poor navigation unit :) , the horrible run flat tires :) , the dreaded HPFP issue :) and all of this on the "ultimate drivers car".

I too have the frumpy pig skin seat in my 2010 4.6 with 18,000 miles.......from my experience both first hand and from what I have read on the this forum in almost 3/4 of a year and damn near daily visits here....... it is the DEALER and SERVICE DEPT that makes or breaks this car or any car for that matter. It helps to have a product that does not break down either and garner a trip to see the dealer, but if you have to fight with the dealer and service folks to get things taken care of(WITH IN REASON); you get tired of things REAL quick and your understanding as a paying customer fades quickly. We all have the same Genny for better or worse; what we don't all have is a dealer and service department who treats us well. I would venture to say that those of us who are disgruntled/discouraged/disappointed or any other descriptive adjective you can come up with at describing a state of not being happy have been given the run around; told that noise/vibration/hum wrinkle is normal when we know better they know better too. That is the real problem.

It appears that in pics that I have seen, seats have same or very similar stretch pattern. You would think that Hyundai has made note of this by now...

Just got my car back from the dealer this morning after a seat bottom replacement under warranty and it looks worse that your seat. And I only have 8 miles on my seat after returning home.

I will ask the dealer tomorrow if just the leather cover was replaced, or the entire seat, cushion, leather and all because it feels like my old seat bottom I just got rid of.

Pic to follow later tonight after I get home from work.

Rudderman, sorry to hear that. I think the dealer network, based on continual consistent feedback here, ranges from the rare professional dealer to worthless. There is no excuse for the defect. And even less excuse for the sloppy not sweating the detail (or testing) of your seat repair. I bet if they keep this up, you could file a lemon law buyback (two more times of chaos) at the rate they are failing to fix the problem.

Would like to see the pictures too.

I got my Consumer Repots annual auto survey today (photo attached)..... What goes around comes around. Also got the email survey from Hyundai yesterday. I will be professional and factual. They are a good company and need to know that this kind if crap on multiple issues will not be tolerated.. Especially with the spotty support to get things corrected.

Today put 475 plus business miles on her today. So much of the experience is beyond amazing (Except for the DIS iPod directory chaos and the sub par blue tooth sound quality for the far end person).

The adaptive cruise is not smooth with any traffic, Too slow to adapt, then jams the brakes hard. If traffic is light is it more smooth.

As the other members above indicated. When spending the cash for this model, one expects top class execution and no design flaws like what is being seen on this forum.

Nice post. Good points.

Yep.. Makes sense. Wonder when a real fix comes out? Otherwise many owners could see coming back three or more times to keep fixing the problem. And you know what that means.. Lemon law returns What is, is.. Nothing more, noting less.

I have a 2010 4.6 with 40,000. The drivers seat exhibits the loose seat leather and collapsing cushion after 30 min of driving. I took it in to the dealer for the brake fluid campaign and made them aware and handed them copies of this thread. 6 hrs later I was told my seat was no different than any other Genesis and no warranty claim was justified.

It seems they admitted there's a problem. What next??

That dealer is scum. And any Hyundai support of that treatment makes them co-conspirators in a attempt squash "the seat coverup episode" :)

Well here it is guys.

Only 8 miles on the bottom cushion since my return home from the dealership this morning.

I honestly don't know if I want to live with it, deal with it, or just go to another dealership and get the entire seat replaced. I'm so burned out taking the Genny to the dealership for warranty work. I just want to enjoy my car. :(

My lease is up next summer just in time for the 2014/15 Genny. I was really planning on purchasing my car because I really do like it a lot but it's wearing me out. Don't know if I want to continue on with Hyundai or go elsewhere like SmooveC did when he went to Infinity.

Oh yeah SmoovC. Still waiting for that ride!:D

Very discouraging, for sure. Did you talk with Myron? In Hyundai's defense, some of the issues you have had have been dealership related; but as you stated that does not negate the burnout factor of having to take the car in on a repeated basis.

It also does not eliminate the fact that many owners have the same concerns, and there seems to be no uniform cure for the defect; nor express acknowledgement on Hyundai's part that the issue even exists.

Nothing infuriates me more than to hear a Service Advisor say "they are all that way", or "oh, that's normal." Given that line of thinking, if I started a Company that manufactured cell phones and the "#" button did not work on any produced, then that is "normal and acceptable", since they are "all that way"?

If Hyundai wants to capture a portion of the upscale luxury sedan market, they need to take a more serious approach to customer service. We are not Accent buyers; we expect more from our cars, and rightfully so given the money spent.

As far as that ride: just got the car back from the Xpel wrap yesterday, newly painted rear bumper and tinted tail lights go in today, new tires tomorrow, so maybe this weekend? Although I am not sure what my Social Coordinator has lined up; I haven't gotten that memo yet. ;)

SmoovC,

Haven't talked to Myron yet. Going back to Korum today to see what they can do about this one last time.

This weekend no good. Got to work. But do give me a shout sometime so I can checkout that Xpel wrap and the '56S. ;)

Well....

Just got back from the dealer this morning to voice my disappointment with the NEW seat bottom and can anyone guess what I was told?

If you get the answer right, I will ship you FREE OF CHARGE, one NEW Genesis WORN OUT seat bottom. I know this is no incentive to play my game but what the heck. You could probably use the leather to make a belt, fix a shoe, or use the stuffing to fix your own seat.

( You guys know I'm being sarcastic right? I wouldn't ship crap across the country for free)

The honeymoon is over with my dealership and Hyundai. Hyundai has had five years to make the 1st gen Genesis better but didn't.

Now I get to shop for another car next year. :D

Hmm, I see spaces for 3 words, so I am going to go with the dealer stating:

GO F**K YOURSELF??
