Recall/Free Tire Replacement???

He said it's not listed as a courtesy replacement, but a critical recall and it would likely just be done automatically when I took it in for other servicing.

Something is definitely wrong with this tire, never even heard of a critical recall on a tire. As for the Conti DWS, like I said I have these on my Mercedes SL and they are my favourite tire of all time. would love to get a free set of those and if you look at Tire Racks listing they are within a couple of dollars compared the original Hankooks for a complete set on the V8.

That article says the V8 tires will be replaced with ProContact DX, but I don't see that tire on TireRack. Either it's a typo or it's a completely new tire.

Hmmm... Other than minor flatspotting in cold weather that quickly works itself out, I find the Hankooks to be nice tires - no vibration or road noise on mine at all and they also have good grip (have yet to even hear them squeal - even with "aggressive" cornering). Not sure what the issue driving this replacement campaign really is here?

Yeah, this is what concerns me; if there's some kind of liability issue that isn't being publicly revealed. Replacing all the tires on what's probably 40-50K cars seems like an extraordinary measure.

Are any 3.8 owners getting this letter? Are the ties on the 3.8 the same as the 5.0? I have no received a letter but I am happy with my Hankooks.

I have a 3.8, but did not receive the letter. I am actually at the dealer right now for first service and brought this up to the service advisor. He looked into this replacement issue with the techs and they came back and told me there have been a few instances where tires have been replaced; not necessarily at my dealer, and that yes, these (mine) could be replaced under warranty. The hankooks seem fine to me, I have had little issue with the vibration since it's warming up now,so not sure I would change tires. Especially after reading the reviews of the chosen replacement tire.

I haven't read a review other than what people have said on this forum, so I was speaking of all others in this conversation that have made mention. However, if you go back in the forum and read the letter a member received from Hyundai, you will notice a tire model was mentioned and you can read reviews for that tire on tire rack. Also, an update. Just spoke to the tech working on my car and he said a larger recall is forthcoming to replace the Hankooks, but he could not give a specific date. Also, he only mentioned replacement with Continental branded tires, but no specific model yet. . Not sure if this is a full blown campaign for all Genesis, but something is "brewing."

Then you did not review the correct tire since the article posted on the previous page clearly states the V6 Genesis will have Michelins as replacements.

Ok, here is the email confirmation from Continental Tire.

Thank you for contacting Customer Relations at Continental Tire the Americas, LLC.

We have ProContact GX, ProContact TX and ProContact RX. We do not manufacture ProContact DX nor will be manufacturing it in the future.

Oddly enough they do not make tires in any of those to fit the V8 so I sent another email out. To be continued...........................?

That depends on WHICH Michelin is offered. Based on the downgraded tire model selected on the V8, need to see which model Michelin before opening the champagne.

No word from Hyundai Canada yet as far as I can see. I've emailed my dealer for word. Yes the Hankooks are great once they're warmed up, but for those of us who make frequent trips of a couple of miles or less, a car that vibrates is not what we signed up for when we bought the Genesis. It's the only thing spoiling my experience and it's been happening every time I've driven the car after it's been sitting overnight (and that's here in Florida where we've been spending the last 3 months -- it's not just a cold weather problem).

I contacted the service department of my local dealer when I read the consumer report article. (Coincidently, I hit a pot hole on my way to work and blew out one of my tires). They said it was only for the 5.0. They checked my VIN and it wasn't part of the program. It may be that they are doing this in stages. But I really don't want to have to keep my car in the garage until they start replacing the 3.8.

Talk about riding a rollercoster this morning. From Low to High, then low again.
