If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Recall/Free Tire Replacement???

Did you happen to notice which tire? Also, you've been at the dealer a lot lately. Are you about to pull the trigger?

Ah! I did not, sorry.
Yeah, I've been interested and test driving them :D ....but I'm still not sure if I want to pull the trigger. Maybe I should wait til next year or two and get a v6 twin turbo :p
Time will tell.

Only the 5.0 Genesis' are getting the new tires. I guess Hyundai figures our 3.8 isn't worthy even though they flat spot just a badly as the 5.0's. NOT FAIR!

Why do you say that when the report says that both V8 and V6 will get new tires (report from a couple of pages back...).

Dealer has a list of vin numbers. They are only 5.0's according to him. I have an appointment today for something else and will insist on talking to a Hyundai regional rep about this. Needless to say, I'm really PO'd.

I just now confirmed with Genesis customer service at 877-378-8727 that ALL 2015 Genesis sedans will get new tires. Michelins on the V6 and Contis on the V8. They do not have a recall number for the program. I was told to wait for my letter to contact the dealer.

My thoughts are this, how long can I put off the tire replacement? I just got my car, but so far have no complaints about the tires. It would be nice if I could hold off for a few years at least (I do not put on a lot of miles) and then replace them. I will check the letter and ask the dealer to see if that would be possible. Either that or ask to keep my Hankooks and put them back on after the Michelins wear out, which would not be 100% free like waiting, but better than paying for new tires.

Good to know & I was wondering to the time you have to get this done.

I would bet this is not a "get two sets of tires" deal that also has a time limit.

Some are reporting the newly shipped V8 cars already have Contis on them on the lot. The dealer will be required to do the actual switch and return the old tires somewhere. If you like the Hankooks and have little miles on them, keep them if the actual replacement model is a lesser tire.

Hey I am not racing the car, I'm sure any decent set of all season tires will suit my needs just fine. I would be very surprised if the dealer has to physically send the old tires somewhere, that would be millions of $ in shipping charges for something that they will sell for scrap. I will post updates if I hear anything new that is not posted in here already.

Unless they have a defect hazard, which no one is suggesting, they will go somewhere besides someone's trunk at the dealer. Even if they were meant for the scrapyard due to manufacturing defect, to get a write-off, Hyundai and/or Hankook will need to dispose of them in a documented manner.

Ok, here is an update 04/14/2015. I have a 2015 Genesis Sedan Ultimate and have 1300mi on the car. Had a blowout on the Florida Turnpike on Wed 04/08/2015 and still made my golf tee time (changed tire in 20 min). Tried to get replacement on Racktire and Tirebuyer but none to be had. Called Hankook and they said to go to Hyundai dealer and take pictures of tire and send in a warranty write-up form.
I called the local Hyundai to get a tire shipped in and make an appt. Went into the appt. and told them about getting tire under warranty and they said the tire has been recalled as of last Wed. and they were going to replace all 4 with Continental Procontact TX tires 275/35R19 H96 on the back. Well they said I was the first person in Florida to have them replaced.
I have only had them for 1 day, but just driving off the lot and home they seemed a little more quiet.
Well I guess everyone else will be getting theirs soon.

Going in Monday to get the new tires, I just hope the Conti are better than the reviews. I only have 5k on the Hankooks, and minor flat spotting each morning, but nothing that's driven me nuts. I just don't see Hyundai spending millions to make a problem worse. The dealer also said they are doing it in stages as another 5.0 owner asked about it and his VIN wasn't included, had the same tires as me purchased at the same dealer.

Any tips for a wicked burnout before I get rid of tires with only 5k miles on them? :)

It seems the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing. I was at myy dealer yesterday with a copy of the TSB. They again said it was only for the 5.0's so I insisted on talking to the area rep. They did and said she told them to do a wheel balance and several other steps and tests. ( I don't remember the names). I insisted that that would not help the flatspotting but they also insisted this was what they were told to do. A total waste of money... not mine.

I will wait a week and then go in again with the service number below if I don't get a recall notice from Hyundai.

chuckengle, thanks for the update. Please keep us posted on your opinion of the tires. I know different people have different criteria for measuring tire performance, but the most important factors to me are 1) wet traction/hydroplane resistance and 2) road noise.

For others, 275 is a narrower tire than what's currently on the back; will that be noticeable (visibly or otherwise)?

Wasn't it always a 275/35-19 rear on the V8?

You're right; I just double-checked my car. I have no idea where I pulled 285 from; my mistake.

hey guys,

I just got my tire replaced to Conti procontact TX and my first impressions are that you can definitely tell the difference from the Hankook's.
Conti's definitely sits higher than Hankook's but, ride is a lot smoother and quieter.
Personally, i prefer more of a sportier feel of summer tires, after about 10k, front tires have noticeable wear so it was no brainer for me get them switched out.
So, if you like the current sportier ride (like me..) then, i would recommend keeping the Hankook's ...

Recent update from today.

Brings up the obvious that industry dealer training for service writers are Terrible. Certainly the typical service writer blow off. BMW, and all other brands are susceptible to the service writer blow off. These $15 an hour wonks treat you like they work for Sonny on the Godfather. They hire ***** personality types with a life grudge. Then train them to be half hearted smiling and supportive as long as you do not deviate from their routine of support.

They are also taught in training, just like cops in their military type training, that you the civilian are always going to lie. And to treat you ultimately when in a conflict outside their narrow job role as the enemy.

I have a out of standard situation that put the service writer at the purchasing dealer (Evansville Hyundai), into a tizzy. Over the phone he got edgy when I pressed him out of his box over the 2015 Hankook tire issue. My car has the affected tires, and when he said it was not in Hyundai system for new tires (like others), and I asked him to become a advocate with Hyundai to get on the list (I a likely am, or will be because I have the exact problems and tires under the replacement recall), he did his typical service writer blow off routine.

I was going to have them put on the mud flaps ordered from them, and first oil change.. Plus the TSB on the taillight. Well, may just pick up the flaps and go someplace else. Plus will not recommend them to others on here. All because of a attitude, assuming customers always lie, and not connecting with the customer in a professional and enrolling way.

Yikes. Most of the service writers I have known over the years from various manufacturers have been fine to work with, some excellent. Regardless of what they earn. I do know one thing - most service people will react in kind to how they are treated - if you go in looking to settle a score or expecting to be screwed, expect to be treated the same.

Based on my conversation withHyundai customer service, the 3.8 Genesis is going to receive the Michelin Primacy MXM4. Has anyone else received the same information. I made a deal with my dealer and I'm planning on changing tires. I just want to be sure these are the right tires.

I called customer car yesterday and was told that the 19" tires on my 3.8 will be Continental ContactPro TX, which has been stated several times above.
