Solution! LED DRL's and LED turn signals

This is how the new US spec hesdlight would look like. According to what Hyundai told me and I quote " the yellow light would be the side repeater"

This is directly from hyundaigenesis.com and looks just like the current US spec with the parking lights on (In fact it might be just that). This is typically how I drive anyway as I also like the 3d effect when the taillights are on dim. I'd like if I could have the LED and the Auto changeover to HIDs though.

But that does require you to manually turn the lights on and off, correct?

If the LEDs are also 12V and there is a separate wire for the DRL and turn functions on the amber it could be a very simple rewire. Anyone have a wiring diagram for the current model?

simple rewire....simple void of warranty as well. and on those expensive headlights...i'll pass.

Sort of. As has been discussed in several threads on different subjects federal law prevents Hyundai from denying warranty service if they can't show your alteration caused the problem. If, for instance, the user who posted in another thread about the flap solenoid for the high beam not working had performed the alteration that I'm suggesting, federal law would still require that Hyundai honor their warranty. In practice this may require a fight, but your warranty is really only voided if your rewire causes damage.

In fact, I would bet the use of the VLEDs LED would actually be more likely to cause warranty problems. Hyundai would have no case for voiding your warranty if the only change you made was to move one wire to match their supposed new factory setup, unless you directly botched and shorted it.

So in other words, go to court to prove your mod did not affect the Hyundai part and a few years later and on your 3rd mortgage they finally decided it is your fault. Nope, not for me.

Hyundai would have the burden of proof and it would most likely take the form of free arbitration.

Also, this is not specific to what I was discussing -- this is more likely to happen with the VLEDs that are the original subject of the thread, both in terms of causing damage and causing a warranty denial...

Solution!!!!
It ends up that my LEFT ( driver) turn signal is wired BACKWARDS!!!! and that, being the easy one, was the one I was testing with. Seriously... The 'barrel' of a light is always negative and the bottom of the bulb is always positive. We'll guess what, the left turn signal housing is the opposite of that, but the right one is correct!! So... A little rewiring of the VLED harness and all is good.

As has been said, the right light is a royal PAIN to get to. A brace needs to be removed and the air intake box needs two bolts removed and kind of pushed out of the way, just to get to the round hatch that covers the light housing access.

All wiring, driver, everything fit into the light housing.

This is the left socket that is wired backwards. It took me putting a meter on it to figure it out.

This dhows the modified VLED wiring harness.

The VLED in place. All re remaining harness simply stuffs inside the housing, then replace the round hatch cover.

Lousy shot, but it shows the assembled VLED with the collar, 3 screws, and a medium thickness rubber gasket in place. The kit has several gasket choices, but the medium worked best.

Right side... First remove the crash brace (2 bolts)

Loosen these 2 bolts that hold the air box in place and push it out of the way (twd the engine).

It is tight, but the arrow shows where the hatch is to get into the light housing.

Here's the right side with everything in place, before reinserting the hatch.

End result!

Haha this ebay seller stole your picture for his ad!

I have the 5.0 Ultimate. Do you know what bulb size are for the HID's? I am under the assumption that the 5.0 used "Bi-xenon" bulbs for low and high beams (manual says HB3 bi-function bulbs). I just can't seem to determine correct bulb size replacement and cannot locate them on the web. I too do not like my yellowish HID's. I've always went with 6000k/5500k. Thanks for the help.

Just bought a 3.8 RWD this week. Build date Sept 29. Still has Amber DRL. Anyone think there's a chance there's a relay somewhere we can just swap out. I realize it's doubtful taking into account the complexity of the car.

If your state allows, think about replacing the amber bulbs with white ones. If you are not wanting to mess with the switchbacks.

My state allows white LEDs but even if I went with white LEDs I would still have to deal with the hyperflash.

Try non-LED's

This is a PIAA Xtreme white bulb. Matches well and is plug and play since its not LED.

Mike, thanks. I was actually looking at those on amazon yesterday.:) I just ordered them. I think your right. It's the easiest solution for those who live in states where white flashers are legal. In Florida where I live you can have front white or amber flashers and in the back red or amber.

This is what you should expect during the daytime. Much improved over the amber!

Michael: That looks 100% better with the non leds, i/o amber. I want this look too. ;-) I'm assuming the bulbs are the same for the 5.0 Ultimate. I can check the book.

Most importantly, how difficult is it to change these bulbs? Do you have to remove bolts? If so, that counts me out. hehe

I would assume they are the same size also. The driver side is easily accessible, but you would need to follow the steps outlined by genesis@genesisworld.com on page 2 to be able to access the passenger side (must remove a 3 bolts and loosen 1). I bet if you took some bulbs to your dealership they would happily change them out for you. Wouldn't take them more than 30 minutes. I am not sure about others, but the hardest part was moving the protective plastic cover that goes around the engine. I broke a few of the plastic push rivets that hold it in place, not enough to cause an issue, but ordered some off of Amazon anyways. However you get it done it is well worth the effort!

Is there a good place to look to see where the white bulbs are legal?

I have not found an easy way yet. I got lucky on a google search for Oklahoma and the info was on the Oklahoma State Courts Network. Found one for Kansas on the Kansas Statutes page. I think someone said white is legal in Texas.

So far on the searches I have read any blinker White, Amber, or any color between the two is legal for the front blinker.
