  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Sunroof Rattle

Fuel purchase reimbursement????

Yes, just put your VIN at that website and it will tell you if you eligible, even if you don't own this car anymore, they will reimburse you. Also you can agree with one time lump sum payment, but it's not much around 70-80$ per year.

Umm, thanks for the update. Guess it address the 2014 Genesis and the new Sonata. Not quite what I was hoping for but thanks anyway! Good to know such a resource is out there.

It's for the second generation Genesis.
In they terms the new 2105 Genesis , is 2014 DH

That's right, I searched the net and our 2015 second generation in they tech language is 2014 DH, that was given the code name when it was started to build. There is also code name RK and HCD , but the HCD I guess was just a prototype model.

You indicated previously that '09 to '11 Hyundais were involved. Actually it relates to certain models from '11-'13 years.

Oh thanks! This is useful then!

GREAT NEWS! Now the questions: Where did you get the felt tape and exactly (preferably with pics) where did you apply it?

I hope this is not too difficult to identify. The tape is a closed cell sponge tape (http://www.acehardware.com/product/index.jsp?productId=1287006), grey in color.

I cut some pieces and installed them at the corner of the side that tilts up and close to the passenger door (this is where I 'felt' the knock originates). I put some pieces in front and behind the rubber seal on the roof.

I didn't peel off the adhesive side yet as I wasn't sure it would work. I also wasn't sure how it would play as I opened the roof completely (slide open position as opposed to tilt open). After I took the photo last night, I tested the roof opening position and I guess it slightly moved one of the pieces of the tape so I had to reposition it. I must not have put it back in its optimum place as this morning on my drive to work I heard the knock once (albeit at an extreme dip on the road). I will go back home and readjust it this evening.

I am also considering sticking a small cut portion underneath the corner glass part of the roof, so that no matter where it hits on the plastic pieces of the roof, the tape would cushion the blow.

I rejoice in your knockfree Happiness!! I have not driven my car in the two days since filing every cavity with the silicon due to the high winds in NYC afraid of damage . Will report back when the winds let up. Mac

Good luck :) Let us know the progress. Also do check out my post with the sponge tape.

Glad it's working for you. In your pic the rear edge of the plastic that surrounds the moveable panel looks VERY dry! Is it really that dry or is it just a trick of the light in the photo? If it is really that dry it may be helpful to concentrate on that area with a little lube, also.

I honestly think it was the lighting because I clearly remember lubing the edges on my second application. Perhaps I will lube it again, now that you point it out anyways.

Thanks :)

unfortunately My noise is still happening the knock that I am getting is coming from the rear, after placing a digital recorder in the trunk it is a metal on metal noise its either the exhaust hitting somewhere or the rear end or drive-shaft slop. Car has to be hot meaning several full acceleration launches loud knock then appears car cools down goes away. I will eventually get to the cause !!!!!!!

Would be interesting to know if brand new 2015 owners are noticing this as well. Does anyone have any idea of how widespread this is? I realize it is hard to tell when most folks that jump on the thread are having rattle issues.

I have zero rattles or rear end noises. My build date is July 8th. Those with issues, what is your build date? Maybe they found an issue an corrected it in the production line.

I tried setting up a poll for this a while back but failed miserably, please feel free to do so. My build date is also in July and no rattles or noises from mine ether. I do believe there is a connection here and it has been corrected in later build dates.

My build date is June 14 no sunroof rattle. But rearend noise. Mac

I started a post on it after you & I spoke about it. Not sure how to do a Poll. I will see if I can modify my previous post into a Poll.

Did you have a knock/creak or a rattle? While I've heard a creak now and then, I do suspect lubrication can help that (and I can live with the occasional creak).

Mine has a definite rattle that persisted after relubing and running roof diagnostics. The Hyundai Engineer who was visiting my dealer last week and inspected the car agreed that it is not a normal condition. They pulled the headliner this week and are trying to isolate the sound. I really think it's in the sunshade roller mechanism - it sounds like a loose piece of plastic (maybe a plastic pulley loose on it's shaft) moving around. We'll see?

Have your got your problem fixed? Can you share how?
I have same rattle just like you described in your post and I just can't figure out where it is coming from.
To me on the driver's seat, it sounds like coming from the inside of the passenger's side door.
To my wife sitting on the passenger seat, she said it's coming from the back.
Tilting or opening the sunroof only makes the noise little harder to hear but it still rattles.
It sounds like a metal flat stick rapidly flapping and hit some metal or plastic part.
I also get occasional sunroof creaks but I believe it can be eliminated by lubing and taping and so on as many people helped themselves.
I'm new to this forum and thank everyone to share the ideas and fixes and hopes.

Nope - they claimed they lubed with silicone spray and it went away. After driving it in the last week, it's still there and now the car smells of silicone spray - it's going back as soon as I can coordinate.

I'm not khiGen, but I'll chime in here, anyway.

FWIW, my roof has remained quiet now, but I think the problem in my roof was defined by the fact that the noise went away when the roof was tilted. Any roof problem that DIDN'T go away when tilted should probably be considered a different problem, not necessarily likely to respond to lubing alone.

Good luck to you - I know how irritating it is not being able to find these things. :(
