  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Tell us about your "double-take" moments

Last week we went to the mall and someone walked by saying something about how beautiful the car was. I told my wife how good that made me feel. The following day we went to Maggiano's for dinner. While we were chatting outside, some people were walking in the parking lot, stopped at my car and leaned down to get a good look at the badge and just stared for a few seconds. I started grinning and my wife said she didn't want to hear it. :-)

My wife does the same thing when i get those reactions, lol she can't stand the competition i guess

The other day, a Lexus ES350 was in front on me and he was checking my Genesis in his rear view mirror and the poor guy ran into the curb. I'm sure he scratched his rims fairly bad.

Then he let me pass so he could check out the rest of the car. He was impressed but it cost him.

- Street light; a man and his son are in a pick-up truck. They get me to roll down my windows and say they have a bet on what type of car it is. Son said Bentley, father said Mercedes...my wife yells over from the passenger seat that they are both wrong.

- I come out of a friend's office (was in for perhaps 2 minutes), when I get out two gentlemen are standing by my car. My first thought was that they must have hit/dinged my car and were assessing the damage. Luckily, they were arguing over what type of car it was and were looking for badging/branding. I have the wings hubcaps, rear badge and steering wheel badge. They were jaw-droppingly shocked when I said it was a Hyundai, they didn't believe me until I showed them the key and windows.

My wife teases me, because a week doesn't go by where we don't have someone gawking at the car, or verbally asking one of us what it is.

I had almost the identical experience to your second point exiting a Dunkin Donuts the first morning I had it on the road.

Attention all Genesis driving Dunkin Donuts patrons....Starbucks may be more consistent with your brand's image

LOL, good point. I wouldn't want to tarnish the image.

Their bagels are awful though.

It was dark with lots of street lights, and I was waiting at at a traffic light looking down at phone messages. I heard a horn toot next to me and looked to my left. Sure enough there was a guy hanging out the passenger window motioning to roll down my window. Not just one guy, but a Taxi Van full of smiling young men. "Excuse me, who makes that car?" You know, I couldn't help smiling too, and said, Hyundai. Shocked faces.."Wow, that's really a nice car!" We drove a little farther and the taxi van turned into Oceana Naval Air Station. :grouphug: I love our sailors and even love the jet noise. This car is so quiet, can hardly hear the "sound of freedom" anyway.

I stopped at a gas station this morning and a Lexus ES pulls up to the pump behind me. Guy walks up to me and asks, how do I like it? (Note he didn't ask what "it" was.) I tell him I love it. "Can I check it out?" he says. He opens the door, looks it over and sits himself in it.

He asked me a few questions about the features, how's the ride, is it quiet how much it cost, how much more would the V8 cost. "I'm definitely going to look into this."

I will never, ever get tired of reading this thread. It brings a smile to my face with every added post as I am sure it does with most others. Keep the stories coming - great reading!

Gassing up at Costco. Guy gets out of his Benz and walks around the car. As I walk over to put the cap back on he asks her what it is. She says "Its a Honda." With a puzzled look he says, "Nice." and walks back to his car. My wife laughs at her mistake. She still isn't used to the name Hyundai.

I came out of a rehearsal one night in Southport NC and there was a black Yukon parked. I couldn't get out of my parking spot until he moved. A guy and his 17 yr old son were arguing about what they were looking at. They didn't tell me what their various opinions had been, but, though it was nasty and raining, they couldn't help themselves.

Last week at a restaurant in Shallotte, NC a guy asked me, "Is that your car?" and then, "Who makes it?" I told him and he said, "I thought that trunk emblem looked like Chrysler." Then he told me this was the second Genesis he had seen. There were two parked in a restaurant parking lot in Orlando, FL. I told him there were quite a few in central FL.

Last Thursday, 2/26/09, I was at LAX airport returning to St. Louis, where I was one of the first leasees of the sapphire blue Genesis. I wasn't driving my Genesis at the time - and, after spending a week in LA, the land of the automobile, I was quite surprised I had not seen a single Genesis. (I digress.) So there I am, driving around the horseshoe shaped LAX departures area and there a line of 3 Genesis, all black, with what looked like Hyundai executives in them. It appears that they were stopping at the Tom Bradley International terminal. Maybe they were returning to Korea? The 3 sedans were driven by young men in suits and had what I assume were Hyundai execs in the backseats - they were using the Genesis as a limo. The car directly in front of the 3 Genesis was an older model Mercedes sedan that was stretched a little. The back window wasn't tinted but had a curtain over it. It wasn't clear to me if this car was a part of the motorcade, but the driver appeared to be Korean. (Forgive my generalization.)

I slowed down considerably and looked at the black gorgeous (what looked like base Genesis V6s). The passengers were certainly dignified, and rightfully so - they were riding in the Genesis!

PS: any other St. Louisans out there drive a Genesis???

Have a great weekend everyone.

Seth

I have had about 5-6 in the last week in and around Austin, Texas:

1. Getting petrol off Far West in North Austin. A gentleman with a State Capitol parking sticker comes up to me and asks, "What kind of car is that!? Man that is beautiful!" We went on to talk for about 5 mins; he seemed genuinely interested. Asked about price, features, etc. He also asked if it came in a Hybrid.

2. Gentleman on Mopac (one of two major North-South expressways) was breaking his neck trying to catch up to me to see what the car was. You could see the puzzled look on his face as he pulled along side me.

3. Two fellows in a Lexus IS-350 in Lakeway (in The Galleria Parking Lot).

4. Gentleman in a 350z that I had to zip around to pass in order to get in the turning lane in Bee Caves.

5. (According to girlfriend) Gentleman in a G37 in Bee Caves

6. Two women smiled flatteringly in a Georgetown parking lot.

Girlfriend has noticed 2-3 other incidents. "It's the car; it's not me." (I'm not sure if she likes this or not :-) ).

I had a few in Las Vegas too:

1. Hand wash detailer asked what the car was and said, "it's very nice." I tipped him well :D

2. Valet at the Bellagio lobby wrote down on the claim check "Silver Benz" Tipped him well too :)

3. At the hotel parking lot, someone was standing in front of the car and admiring it while waiting for his family to arrive at his car.

4. On the way back to LA, a Scion full of young people zipped ahead to check out the front grille and looked to be arguing about what type of car it is.

I have a few double take moments, but one really come to mind. I was parking in
the Best Buy lot. As I pulled into the parking slot, a car came behind me and sat there for a few moments. I got out and the driver rolled down his window, his passenger asked me "What kind of BMW is that?" I replied it's not a BMW, but a Hyundai Genesis. The expression on their faces was priceless

I always get the young crowd speeding up a quarter car length in front of me to look at the front grill. It seems to happen almost every day.

1. My sister was driving my car when a guy in a Hummer waved his hand to roll down the window. He enthusiastically asked what it was (which she had no idea, hahah) and highly complimented it.

2. Went to Chili's one night and loaded up the family while we were leaving. One of the servers was starting at it to figure out what it was (I don't have any emblems up front). So, one of the greeters (or whatever they're called), walked out acting like he was looking for someone, looked at the back of the car to try to figure it out, looked around it for a second, and walked back in. Like I wouldn't have noticed. :D

Well, I've had mine today. While parked in a shopping center, a man walked over to me and asked me to roll down the window and proceeded to ask what kind of a car is this. I said if I told him I'd have to kill him. He smiled at me and replied, "the back looks like a Rolls Royce and the rest like a Bentley". I then surprised him by telling him it is a Hyundai. Naturally his eyebrows popped up. Tonight, along St. Catherine St, our main drag, there were a few rubbernecks that grabbed my attention. What a feeling!

I had a bunch of Brown University college kids that looked to be on a running team come up to my car and asked me what it was. I told them it was a Hyundai and I got the shocked face. They all loved it.
