  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Tell us about your "double-take" moments

I would agree, but I'm still waiting to meet a female that cares about cars as much as I do:cool:

She wears a chain wallet, has a crew cut or a mullet, and has alot in common with you: she likes women also. ;)

New Genny owner.
Meeting my friend at the train station (he's already seen the car and likes it, can't believe it's a Hyundai) and when he comes out he calls me and says "hey I'm outside, where are you?" I say "I'm across the street looking at you". His response " you know I saw the car when I came out, and thought it was a Mercedes, didn't realize that was you".
Made my whole day!

I like going for a short drive on the highway and pulling into a "Rest Stop" now that entertaining... ;-)

I go take a seat on a bench and watch the crowd gather...never fails ;-))) Great Buy!

Another one today! Parked at a large mall parking lot and went into Macy's. I returned to the car and could see from a distance someone was standing next to my car looking inside it. When I got to the car, I realized it was a woman in a new silver Lincoln MK-something parked next toy car. As I was leaving, she got out of her car and motioned me to stop. She asked me if I liked the car and kept saying it was absolutely beautiful. Kept me for 4 or 5 minutes to talk about reliability. Said at first, she thought it was a BMW. Hah!! I said it replaced a BMW. :D

I was stopped at a traffic light when a new looking crew cab GMC truck pulled up next to me in the left turn lane. I was wondering why he didn't pull forward as he was three car links behind the car in front of him. Finally I heard his horn and I looked at him. He made a motion for me to roll down my window, which I did. He said "that is one beautiful car. Did it cost over $100,000?" I said no it did not and he said "that is a good looking car" and then drove away. That sure pumped my ego. I couldn't wait to get home and tell the wife.

That's a good one!

I had a double-take today... *I* saw an exact twin of MY car, and I did a little double-take! As I was in a co-workers Kia, the driver and I didn't exchange the obligatory Official Genesis Owner Mutual Respect and Admiration Wave™.

He was sporting the completely-OEM look though. No tints, and HMA-spec badges.

It looked awesome. I'm posting about it in another thread, 'cause I must know this dude!

That's funny Ruissimo.

Because yesteday I too saw my exact twin. I was on my bike and not in the car. At first I thought it was the Wife, then I saw an older Asian man behind the wheel and knew it wasn't her. What's even more interesting is that he was headed onto the military base where I work. I'll have to try and find him one day when I get the chance.

October 4 - Find Your Genesis Twin Day

It was only strange because it's only the third Genesis I've ever seen in my town in 2.5 years. Hopefully he keeps the OEM look so my familiars can tell us apart.

I've only seen a few here as well in the last year. But I did see my twin one weekend afternoon parked downtown. No one around. This time it was right across the interesction from me.

There is also a regular Genny, same color as mine, just down the street from me. I don't know the guy but do know his neighbors. Maybe time to meet a new neighbor. ;)

Without exception, every time I've bought a new car (or new to me), I've immediately noticed that I see said car everywhere. But in reality, I think it's actually more about psychology than an increase in coincidental sightings. So even though I don’t yet own a Genesis, considering how focused I’ve been on the Gen Sedan for the past couple years, I really see very few of them around the St. Louis area. So when I do finally get my white (or black… not decided) 2013 Rspec, I really don’t think I’ll see any more than I do now; but I can’t wait to find out! (now when the hell are ’13Rs gonna start arriving???!) Cant wait to post my first double-take moment.

Parked my car in front of the bank entrance last night to use the ATM (no one there, parking lot empty). Another guy parks in the parking lot and walks over to use the ATM, but stops and stares at my car for a while.

As I come out, he turns to me:

"This you?"
"Yep"
"Man, that is one beautiful car. One of those new Hyundais, huh?"
"Yeah"
"That's gorgeous"
"Thanks"

He looked at me funny -- I was dressed like a bum, on my way to soccer. LOL

Mine gets a LOT of stares and comments, more attention than I sometimes want. The black on black with silver 19s and red Brembos really caught my eye and made me drool when I first saw it, so I guess others are attracted, too. Mine also has the badges and wheel caps replaced with Genesis wings, so I get lots of leaning-forward stares at the deck lid in traffic. I've been asked if it was an Aston Martin while gassing, been followed home to be asked about it, chased on the road and filmed by a stranger while on the interstate, challenged to race, etc. I don't see many sedans or coupes around the area, so they're still very exotic here.

Most people see the wing on the back and I took the winged wheels off and put after market wheels on it. The only H is on the steering wheel. I hear people all the time thinking it is a Bentley! My son had a Bentley Speed and the wings look the same.

I put the wings on the trunk, wheels, steering wheel and I get constant stares on the highway and even parking lots. It is fun!

I use to get more double take moments but its few now. I think the reason is that in my town there are several silver Gennys, at least two other white ones like mine, several black and a red v6 and blue v8 that I have seen. Just this past week there was my car, and two other gennys at the car wash at the same time (though I was the only one with the 4.6 V8) also there were four in the Appleby's lot about a month ago. As a side note, I see at least two Equus around town every week.

I constantly get stares, the other day I was coming to a stoplight when I spotted a new '13 Avalon pull next to me, both the driver and passenger turned my way to look, as they inched foward I noticed on his paper plate that he had just gotten his car the day before.

Had my Genny for less than 24 hours and already had my first double-take. I'm getting tint and paint protection put on at a place dealers take their cars to get it done. Guy walks in the shop wearing a Mercedes jacket and drops off several keys for the cars he just brought in. As he's walking out, he stops dead in his tracks and stares at the car. Slowly he makes his way to the back and you could have knocked him over with a feather when he saw the "H" on it (Genesis badges are on the way). He comes into the waiting area and asked if she was mine. I said yes and he said that is a fine car and that he thought for sure it was a Benz (he works at a Benz dealership for crying out loud!). Needless to say, I am stoked about my purchase.

Had my first good double-take moment last night. Went to the Yankee game last night...I'm a BoSox fan so no comments please!;) Anyway, I got some corporate tickets, so I had a parking pass for the VIP lot where plenty of nice cars park (ie: Porsches, MB, BMW, Lexus, etc.). As I'm pulling out of the garage handing my ticket to the attendant, he asks "What kinda car is that? Aston Martin?" I responded, "Hah, no...it's a Hyundai Genesis". He gave me a puzzled look back that it was a Hyundai LOL:cool:

On a fairly clear freeway here in SoCal, I was being passed by a guy in a nice Lexus. He was passing me on the left side, when all of a sudden he slowed down as he was next to me, then he pulled in behind me only to pull up on my right side - all along staring at my Genesis.
Finally he pulled up to my left side again and rolled down his front passenger window, so I rolled down my front window. He then yelled at me: "What make is it?" And I proudly replied "Hyundai Genesis". He nodded and smiled, then took off.

All this happened while going 80 Mph on the I15-south near the I60. :D

I've had two "double-takes" since I purchase the Genesis. One was good, the other not so much.

First, when I was getting my Magnaflow fixed and the mechanic backed my Genesis out of the garage, one of the shop's customers asked if it was an Aston Martin and mentioned is sounded awesome - good.

Second, I take the bus into work on occasion because it's cheap and I don't have to pay for downtown Cinci parking. One day after I had pulled into the "park and ride" and boarded the bus, the driver asked me if that was my "new Lincoln" - bad.
