  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Tell us about your "double-take" moments

Last month, I had a new S-class with dealer tags weave in and out of traffic in order to catch up, pull in front of me in my lane, and then slow down. I took it as a compliment.

I would have taken it as a compliment as well. I also would have waved my checkbook at them! :D

My wife got a low tire presure warning (again) and pulled off the I-405 near Sunset to have it checked out. She pulled into a 76 garage and asked to have the tire checked (large nail) and then repaired. After the repair was finished the mechanic told her that he thought she was driving a M. Benz until he saw the "H" logo's.

To be honest guys, I was reading this thread and telling myself "heh, that's so not happening here (I live very close to New York City)"... and then today...
I was driving to work and stopped on a light. On the corner of my eye I saw a car coming from behind and stopping next to me...

I then saw 2 young kids in the car, driver signalled me to put down the window. I thought they would ask for direction but the one driving asked
- Hey, what's this car?
- It's Hyundai, I replied
He turned to his friend and repeated what I said. Then turned to me and asked the year and again repeated my words to his friend.

Then smiled to me and nodding his head. he said "It's very nice, VERY nice!"

That made my day :)

Last Friday night our daughter was visiting with two of our grandkids. We took them out for pizza. As we were leaving the resturant, two older couples were found pouring over our platinum/cashmere 4.6 w/tech Genny with a fine tooth comb. One gentleman started asking questions about the car and then asked if he could sit in the back to try it out for size. When he got out he commented on it saying how nice it was and how big it was. Their new Cadillac DTS was parked next to ours.

There was a classic car show being set up in the parking lot behind the resturant. We all went to see the cars. The gentleman that 'loved' my car came up to me and said that I should bring the Genny over and that I would be sure to win a trophy. Wow. Genny's a classic already.

I got pulled over by a police officer yesterday while driving through a blvd...

Me: afternoon officer, Did I do something wrong?
Officer: No not at all...I'm sorry to pull you over, but, I just wanted to know what car that was and get your thoughts.

Me: officer, you scared the $hit out of me by pulling me over!
Officer: Yes, sorry again but I just had to know...

Me: anyway...It's a Hyundai!!!
Officer: Can't believe what this company is doing. They've come a long way. The interior is very nice!

Me: Thanks...Officer, please sit in my car and cherish this moment as aside from giving me a heart attack, I'm flabbergasted that you pulled me over to see/ask about my car.
Officer: I can't, too much equipment and I don't want to ruin the seats.

We spoke briefly and then parted ways. HE was a gentleman, very polite officer. Wish they were all like that.

My timing was good cause I had just finished washing, claying and waxing the car.

Went to visit some married friends last weekend who hadn't seen the car yet. When we arrived, the husband was out doing an errand so we took the wife for a quick spin. When we returned the husband was still out so we parked in front of the house and went in. A few minutes later the husband returns, sees the car out front and comes in through the back door and asks the wife who parked the Bentley out front before he realizes that it's us with our new Genesis. Took him for a spin and left shortly after. Got a call the next day from them so they could tell us how the next door neighbor came over right after we left inquiring as to what kind of car it was. If that wasn't enough, the same day we went to our friends my wife went up to gas it up and pulled up behind an expensive looking Audi at the pump. As she was filling up the guy driving the Audi gets out, walks completely around the car, walks up to her window and motions her to open it. Asks what it is and asks how much it cost then walks away looking as if he got ripped off. I'm loving this car!!!!!!!

It was a nice and warm evening so me and my wife drove to the nearby city park and take a walk. Just as we walk away from our car an older couple walk past our car heading to their bmw 530i parked in front of ours. I heard the husband said to his wife "Honey, that must be the new 2010 BMW. It seems to be much nicer than our 09".

One moment was this Sunday: a neighbour was driving by, stopped his car and backed up a bit (which I enjoyed a lot <G>). He then rolled his passenger window down and asked me if it was a 2010, then, after admiring it for a few more seconds, he told me my Genesis looks great! That made my day.

Yesterday, while waiting for my wife to come out of Macy's, I happened to see a platinum car that looked very much like my Genny but with beautiful chrome wheels. A couple of minutes later, the same car went by again. Then a third time only this time it parked a few lanes down and at the end (I assume to reduce the possibilities of getting parking lot dings). The couple in that car walked past mine and I could see through my mirrors that the man was doing an intense but quick inspection of my car.

As my wife and I were leaving the lot, I drove by his Lexus......nice wheels on that Lexus.

LOL!

But seriously, unless they didn't get a good look at the front, how could a BMW owner think that a BMW wouldn't have some variant of the double kidney grille?

I was at a gas station about to run in, and finishing a conversation on my phone when some guy walked all the way across the parking lot and INTERUPTED ME to ask if I like the car. I said yes and then he spent about 5 minutes walking around it checking it out. That was the most extreme "look" I have recieved to date.

Two times today!

At the car wash, I asked to have a vacuum out and wipe down interior as well as hand wash. The car wash people said "what a beeyouteeful car" !!!
Another patron in the car wash was also impressed! "Is it a new model?" "Of what?" "How much?"

Then went to get lunch and one of the restaurant workers said "wow...what a car...what year is that????" I told him '09, and he smiled and said it is a very nice looking car!!!

Made my day!!!:D

Bump. :)

I know there are more stories out there. I just love to read them! Keep posting them up!

My Neighbor thought is was a Mercedes, Two guys in a car next to me at a stop sign, thought it was a Bently, and countless "what kind of car is that."

OK, tonight my wife and I went to a Starbucks (don't drink the stuff) to exchange some papers with a business acquaintance. We parked right in front of the full height windows. I saw a whole table of mother and teenagers. Saw them staring at the car and pointing. Met my friend and he said he was thinking about getting the Genny or an Infiniti. We stood around the car and he sat in it. Along came a woman, she stopped, walked all around the car. She interrupted us and said "what is it." And like the rest, was dumbfounded when I said Hyundai - after teasing her a little about baby Bentley. Great - it was fun.

Another moment i had today while shopping at Target with the family, got in my car in the lot about to pull out and a nice man came and knocked on my window and said 'excuse me sorry to bother you, that is a nice car you have, i've never heard of Genesis what is it?' I smiled and told him it's from Hyundai, really a hyundai and i said yeah i know, lol while walking away he said it's a nice car and i said thanks, 8 months of this and it never gets old,lol

VIVA LA GENESIS!!!!!

I was filling the tank yesterday when a Mercedes pulled up parallel to me and just stopped there, blocking the station. The driver just sat there and stared at my platinum Tau until I finished and pulled out.

With the rebadging, nobody can figure out what it is. I get a lot of questions and expressions of surprise when I say it's a Hyundai. I've owned/own Lexus SC, Infiniti Q45, BMW Z3 and Acura MDX and none got the attention of the Genesis. Recently a friend who was a senior exec at PPG looked at the glass and was very impressed. He said laminated glass is both rare and expensive.

Last week we went to the mall and someone walked by saying something about how beautiful the car was. I told my wife how good that made me feel. The following day we went to Maggiano's for dinner. While we were chatting outside, some people were walking in the parking lot, stopped at my car and leaned down to get a good look at the badge and just stared for a few seconds. I started grinning and my wife said she didn't want to hear it. :-)
