  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

TUTORIAL: 2015 Genesis trunklid KDM "Wings" Emblem installation

Just had my 2015 Genesis delivered today. Where should I get my emblem from... ebay or Amazon? Has anyone had good luck with a specific shop or person?

I want it ASAP so I can get it on the car. I'm an Amazon Prime member so I'm tempted to buy from one of the people there (free shipping and all).

Just ordered mine through Amazon as well. Should be here in a few days. Guess it's time to get together the other supplies needed.

So I picked up my 2015 Genesis Sedan today and the dealership threw in the rear trunk emblem but didn't want to take a chance installing it themselves. Based on what I have read in this post did I get one that is not going to fit even though the pins look like a perfect fit.

Was planning on the install this weekend.

That part number is different than the one shown in a pic at the beginning of this thread. I wonder if they gave you the front hood wing emblem (it seems to say "Hood" on the part)? The rear wings are not an OEM part for USA Genesis, but are OEM in Korea, so they are usually imported by vendors who by them from Korean dealers and sell them on eBay, etc (some USA dealers get them from eBay vendors also).

I guess if the front emblem fits OK on the trunk, and you like it, then no problem. Make sure it lays flat (before you expose the tape), as the front wings for 2009-2014 had a slight curve to match the curve in the hood. Even if it is not perfectly flat, maybe it is flat enough.

Re-badged! Thank you Motegi for the thorough "How To". The most useful part for me was explaining how to create a template using the blue tape once the badge was aligned. Will be getting the windows tinted Wednesday if my plans don't change, and I will be a happy camper then.

Love your license plate, David. :)

Awesome, I guess I'm lucky, my dealer puts wings on all of the 2015 Gens and Equus'.

Thanks Chuck!

I'm jealous of you guys that got the dealer to do it for you. I admit, it never even entered my mind, but I kinda of doubt I would have gotten that concession (something to keep in mind for the future though -- the far future; I'm not buying another car for a while; I hope!).

LEASING?

What are the rules on rebadging a LEASED car? (Just the trunk H) Anyone done it? Dealer charge for it (I'm not handy) how much? Problem when car returned?
Technically, you're responsible for returning the car in the condition you received it (minus acceptable wear and tear). If the dealer doesn't want to re-badge it for you and you do it yourself, then the dealership could go either way upon turn in -- penalize you a monetary fee to put a flying H back on there, or ignore it (or not even notice it). If they do re-badge it for you, then obviously there wouldn't be a penalty at lease turn in, 'cause that's how you received the car. If you do it yourself, and you're careful when removing the flying H, you can put the H back on yourself at the end of lease. I broke mine into three pieces getting it off because (a): I was too impatient to go through the trouble to heat it up with a hair dryer, and (b): there's was a ton of adhesive on the "H" part of the logo.

On a lease, I doubt the dealer would re-badge it free of charge, and the cost is at their discretion. It never hurts to ask, though. I'd be interested in hearing their response.

Guess I got lucky with mine. I ordered my rear wing badge, received it, and when I stopped by the dealership to drop off some paperwork I mentioned my plans to my sales rep. They offered to do it for me when they installed my accessories. I was all ready to do it, but easy and free are good too.

Look at it this way, it's only a sticker. You peel it off like any sticker. The flying H has alignment pins so you can't misalign it if you need to re-install. You can buy the flying H on eBay for less than $15.

Good point. I mentioned he could potentially re-use the original badge, but a flying H on eBay goes for peanuts I'm sure.

Re: Followup-TUTORIAL: 2015 Genesis trunklid KDM "Wings" Emblem installation

Going to rebadge this weekend!

These are excellent instructions, and link to the video.

Does anyone bother to seal the old alignment holes on the trunk lid before sticking on the new winged emblem? I am worried about water creeping into the holes and getting into the trunk lid cavity.

The tape on the wings should seal the hole to a sufficient degree. I don't know about the 2015, but on 2009-2014 the Flying H pegs don't fit tight enough to keep water out by themselves without the tape.

You can buy a brand new one at the parts counter of a Hyundai dealer for about $20.

Re: Followup-TUTORIAL: 2015 Genesis trunklid KDM "Wings" Emblem installation

FWIW, I did seal the holes with GE clear silicone and made sure the sealant cured 24 hours before applying the new wing emblem. :)

As Gobluefan mentions I was very concerned about water getting into the trunk lid causing corrosion problems down the road. Years ago before sticky 3M tape was used I installed a spoiler on a Miata which required drilling and screws to mount it. I used plenty of GE silicone then also to seal out that terrible liquid stuff called water that has a nasty habit of causing rust...

Hi all. Great tutorial on this, just picked my car up Friday and ordered the rear wing same day.

Quick question, is the method for removing the flying H the same method for removing the HTrac / 3.8 / Genesis badges ?

Yes - and those don't even have pegs so you can saw through the entire length of the badge adhesive with fishing line.
