  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

TUTORIAL: 2015 Genesis trunklid KDM "Wings" Emblem installation

I know this is off subject but I cannot figure out how to ask a question any way else...I am considering buying 2015 Genesis ...does anybody have any info on expected resale values...Just looked at new magazine and saw that after 5 years the previous model only retained 41% of value and most of other luxury cars around 46-48% retained value...I was surprised and disappointed at the news....Any thoughts? ,,, Thanks

I've never used a heat gun. Is there any chance it could blister the paint? Any particular way to use it other than to hold it near the emblem?

You can blister paint with a heat gun - just use a hairdryer. I left my car out in the sun on a hot day and then hit the old flying H badge with a hair dryer on high for 10 seconds or so (until the badge was pretty hot to the touch). I used fishing line and sawed right through the adhesive in short order - The old logo still broke into 3 pieces (outer ring broke on both sides) when I pulled it with the fishing line, so take your time to wiggle to avoid scratching if it breaks. A little Goo-Gone got rid of the residual adhesive and I wiped with isopropyl alcohol before attaching her new wings. Whole process took about 20 minutes.

The fact is that it will definitely lose more value than the established premium brands - if that's really a consideration/concern for you, then the Genesis might not be the right pick today. For me - I could care less and am enjoying the car. I do get a lot of admiring looks from the folks driving those established premium brands (for some reason, esp from BMW drivers) and they are not sure what kind of car it is (have only seen 2 others on the road in my area since I got mine about 5 weeks ago)?

A question for those that have done this mod. I have found the wings for the hood of the car and they have the proper spacing of the posts so no grinding or removing posts would have to be done. Other than it being for the hood does any one see a reason this can't be used on the trunk. Here is the link for the part Amazon.com: 2015 Hyundai Genesis Sedan Wing Hood Emblem - New Style: Automotive

Ok folks; I bought the front hood Genesis wing logo and it is about 1" longer (9.1"") than the back deck logo BUT more importantly although the holes APPEAR to be the same spacing as the pegs on the stock Hyundai badge, it will NOT "plug and play" directly into those stock trunk lid holes because they are much thicker "monster" pegs so they WILL also have to be "Dremeled" (cut) off to mount on the deck lid.

BTW, I compared both size logos on the deck lid and I think the smaller trunk OEM 8.1" logo DOES look better than the larger front logo (the larger logo looks out of place and proportion). As a point of comparison with logos for instance on BMW or Mercedes and most other brands, they all seem to use a smaller "demure" logo on their back decks. I think the larger one from the front hood might just look "too in your face" or "ghetto" on the rear deck

Done. Looks great. I'm a little concerned that the top part of the wing doesn't seem to be seated firmly against the car and that rain will get in and work it loose. I pressed pretty firmly so not sure what I could have done better. Oh well, if it comes off I'll just order another one.

If you moved the wing around a little before removing the backing and doing the actual install you would have found the "sweet" spot where the wing sits perfectly with the curvature of the rear deck lip curves ;)

I'm going to order another one and try again. Thanks for the info.

After I found the "sweet spot" for mounting and the wing was correctly "centered and level", l used a dry erase fine point marker to trace the 4 "tips" of the wing on the trunk. This way you now have the exact location marked for easy install once you're ready to peel off the backing and affix the wing. When it's on then just take a damp rag and wash off the dry erase markings easily ;)

Great idea!

Getting ready to attempt the badge upgrade this weekend on the 2015. Did it on my 2012 and it was a breeze. Don't anticipate any issues.

one quick question for people who have done this on their 2015 Genesis. Are the current holes centered on the trunk lid?

Yes, take the center between the 2 holes as the center line. :welcome:
