  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
    If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Genesis Owners: What vehicle did your Genesis replace?

I came from a 2010 VW CC Sport, that was a sweet ride, decent torque, quality built, great interior, unexpected lurury appointments, good fuel economy, and arguably the best looking car around for the money...

I replaced it with an 09 4.6 Tech, the Genesis is much nicer, but the jury is still out, as to whether the Hyundai has the same kind of quality durability of my CC.

I threw up in my mouth a little bit when I read that. The only reason you didn't experience the real VW "quality durability" is because of the newness of your CC. VW's have not faired well at all in long term durability short of base Golf...and then that one does much worse than average at higher miles. The Touareg, at one point, had the infamy of being the most unreliable car sold in America (along with it's Cayenne brother.)

my 2012 5.0 R-Spec replaces my 2006 Altima that i had since new

We replaced our 2003 Volvo S-80 which was the best road car we've ever owned. Our 2011 4.6 is now by far the best vehicle we have ever owned.

I have owned a 2009, since November 2008. It now has 72,000 miles on it and is still one graet car. The only problems, I have had, with it are a radio that infrequently cuts out for 10 seconds at a time, (never thought it was significant enough to warrent return to warrantee repair), and the driver side door lock switch (outside) stopped working, so you have to use the remote to unlock (car was out of warranty).

On the plus side, I am still working on the original set of brake pads and my mechanic says they should last until winter.

So the jury has spoken on the 09 Genesis.

My black 2012 Genesis 3.8 replaced a 2012 Scion tc, manual 6-speed trans, cold air intake and performance exhaust which I bought to give as a surprise gift to my daughter in Brooklyn. She didn't want it and neither did I as I wanted a car I could take on long trips. First Hyundai although I had a Kia |Sephia many years ago.

The 2012 Genesis 5.0 is a replacement for a 2006 Infiniti M45 with 72,000 miles. Great car, but started having those issues that are hard to chase down. It had the infamous rear suspension rattle that I could never pinpoint, and a metallic "ting ting" in the sunroof area that would come and go as the temperature increased. That drove me nuts!

Looked for months for a low mile M45 or a M56. Could not find a clean M45, and the M56 was more than I was willing to part with. Enter the Genesis; more power than either, essentially the same amenities, and priced $1000s less than a M56.

I thought the Infiniti brand was better quality. 72000 miles for me would only be 2 years of driving. I have to have a car that can run 200,000+ miles with few or no issues.

To be sure, there are some quality differences. Enough to justify $15k more? That is a decision someone has to make for themselves.

i've been a loyal bmw customer since i started driving. been thru about 7 bmw's, and finally replaced my 2003 bmw x5 4.4i for a 2009 4.6 genesis. So far loving the genesis, almost more comfortable than my old e60 545i. Cant wait to start modding.

My 2012 Genesis Sedan 3.6 replaces my 2000 BMW 750iL. I have been a BMW driver for 12 years and 160K miles. So far, the Genesis compares nicely. It does not have the mass, confidence, and road presence that my BMW had, but I did not expect it to. The Genesis is very comfortable and quicker (amazingly). It is just as quiet as the 7, which says a lot, since the 7 had a silent V12 engine, double-pane glass, and extra sound baffling everywhere. The Genesis is very impressive.

Very nice color of you Genesis I notice in your signature:cool:

BMW E90 335i 2007 33k miles.

^ insane fast car, handled extremely well & resonable on gas mileage.

switched to hyundai because i said i would... and because im not a badge whore ;) but seriously because the genesis has the best of all worlds imo. Transmission is lacking but other then that im good to go.

friend asked what were the three top reasons to get rid of bmw

1. turbo oscillation under full throttle (nobody could fix it)
2. squeeky brakes since being 2 yrs old (bmw refused to fix) turns out it was just the brake shield rubbing against the rotor. fixed it a few weeks before trading car in.
3. transmission ocasionally would grind going into 2nd with clutch fully depressed (service said no lights no problems) yeah whatever.

three reasons i bought the genesis

1. interior super quiet
2. sound system
3. hyundai reliablity and 10/100 plat warranty

Notice performance isnt there... its fast but not as fast as my previous bmw. One thing to note is my stress levels are lower with the Genesis... this will result in longer life span and reduced health problems... seriously !

I have been a Hyundai owner and enthusiast for many years now.

My first Hyundai was a blue 1989 Sonata GLS.

I purchased it new with a manual transmission and had over 200K miles on it before I had to part ways with it. It had the 2.4L engine back then and people swore it was a six cylinder because it was so fast (with the manual transmission). I drove that car across country twice along with numerous trips to Arizona, Las Vegas and the Bay area (northern California). That is what "sealed" me to loving Hyundai's. Over the years I watched as Hyundai steadily improved their product, building their brand reputation and cornering more of the market share.

Twenty years to the month, In 2009, I purchased my second Hyundai;

A used, 2009 Champagne Sonata Limited 3.3L V6.

This car had 11K miles on it and just made me fall deeper in love and become even more committed to the Hyundai brand. As you can see, I did a number of exterior (as well as interior) modifications. One thing that really frustrated me about this car was the fact that I couldn't find any aftermarket performance upgrades for it.:mad:

In late 2009, I saw the Genesis Coupe and swore I would get one; so...in July of 2010, I purchased used, my third Hyundai;

My 2010 Mirabeau Blue Genesis Coupe 3.8 Track A/T

This car only had 1.6K miles on it so it was practically brand new. Once again, as you can see from the picture, I've done a number of exterior mods, as well as interior and performance ones. This is my blue eyed baby, lol.

As time progressed, and with the introduction of the new generation Sonata's, I contemplated what I would do for my next car. I've always felt that there is no replacement for displacement so getting a new Sonata was out of the question, as my Sonata was the 3.3L V6 so my next logical choice was the Azera, which basically had the same engine that the Sonata had. But while looking around at Azera's the Genesis started to peak my interest.

So with that in mind and the fact that purchasing the sedan would make me a "total" Genesis owner, I began a search for a sedan. I actually found the car last week, had it taken to where I could view it on Friday and on Tuesday of this week, I became the proud owner of my fourth Hyundai;

A 2012 Silver Genesis with Premium Package

Once again, the love and committment increases, LOL. I traded in the Sonata to get this car. The only thing left for me to do now is to upgrade later to the 5.0 Tau V8 as far as the sedan goes, and then when they put that engine in the Coupe, I'll go for that!

Just bought a 2012 Genesis 3.8 sedan and traded my 2011 Sonata Limited.

Really liked everything about the Sonata except for the highway road noise on long trips. Around town the noise levels weren't too bad. However this was in sharp contrast to our other vehicles, a 2010 Hyundai Vera Cruz Limited and a 2007 Hyundai Entourage van that ride very quiet.

So after two years in the Sonata I heeded the call to upgrade to a Genesis and glad I did. Made my wife very happy too!
