2015/2016 Generation Genesis "Dislikes"

Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"

Two things i dislike
1. When on the SXM screen - Hit up on the Steering wheel toggle and it goes up the list. Down behaves as you would expect. When you're NOT on that screen the behavior is reversed... makes no sense.

2. I can open the truck remotely (switch in car or on the fob) but I can't close it without using the button on the trunk itself... (let me know if there is actually a way to do this)

You can close it with the button on the dash by holding it in until the trunk closes, but you're right, you can't close it remotely.

Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"

I've had the car for 3 days and already have a long list of dislikes. Luckily, I have a longer list of likes. I have 3.8 awd ultimate.

-seat needs to go up 1-2 inches higher for those vertically challenged in the torso especially. The seat is so deep and I have limited visibility with left hand turns. Good thing I have all of these great safety features!

-it's be great to see the song that's playing in the instrument panel, HUD or navigation screens. It's stupid to have to click back and forth between nav and sxm do find out what the hell you're listening to.

- I feel very let down in the non-safety technology space. Siri integration is basic. I hope the rumors that CarPlay will be coming to 2015 is true in addition to finally having actual apps to download. Pandora, spotify, Facebook anything. My spouse's mid trim Nissan Rogue even has that. The in-car menu navigation is so-so and the latest Genesis phone app is slim on features and stability. Shouldn't we be able to update the software/firmware via that phone app rather than a mandatory visit to the dealership? Imagine if you had to go to your cell carrier to take a new update to your phone... Nonsense.

-backup camera looks like garbage on that nice screen. Additionally, it'd be nice to turn cameras on when stopped and in gear. Saves the wear in the transmission if you're parking nose first into the garage and need to make sure the car is in far enough. (I'm not into tennis balls hanging from the ceiling and another feature my spouse has in the Nissan that I don't)

-if the mirrors flare out when you approach the vehicle, there should be a sensor on the door handle to unlock as you pull the door open instead of having to hit the button on the handle to unlock. Similar to ford and jeep who have this function.

-annoyed by the agreement page still showing at start up after changing the setting.

-daytime running lights are a major letdown. It's a sexy car and those orange lights make it look like an early 2000 Saturn. Blech

-related to the daytime running lights, the fog light omission is equally disappointing

-manual side shades are a letdown. Automating that would've been great.

-a power source and connections in the center storage area would be much nicer aesthetically versus two up front.

-no video inputs

-I would have LOVED a brown interior option like the Santa Fe. Ended up with black instead

-While I enjoy the 17speaker Grammy award winning system, the bass/low end is underwhelming.

-I'd love if the winged badge in the front were also on the back lid replacing the H

- seatbelt connector way too low. An inch or 2 taller would be fantastic.

-finished wood steering wheel would be nicer than all leather. Noisy when it slides through my hands.

And finally, a separate control over the LCD screen brightness would be great rather than having that setting tethered to the instrument panel brightness setting. 9.2 inches of screen at night is far more significant than the instrument panel even in 'night mode'

I think I can live with most of this stuff but I'd love if Hyundai took action to address some of these items for the new 2015 owners and the rest in future iterations of this new body style.

Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"

I hate that the rear camera view would be paused for a few seconds when backing up. You almost have to stop backing until the view is displaying again

Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"

I was driving on a very dark curvy road that I use frequently and I realized something was different about the lighting especially around the turns. It then dawned on me this car doesn’t have the headlight turning feature my 2011 did. I know a lot of people question it’s usefulness but it really made a difference on this road. I know because I traveled it with my 2011 and my Infiniti G which also has the feature and for me it makes a big difference.
I knew it wouldn’t have it but I figured…nothing that can be done about that. Now I know when I drive my G on that road there’s a big difference. Didn’t realize how much I would miss it on the Genesis.

Sorry to burst your bubble but the auto cornering feature is a TYPO on both the web site and the brochure. No 2015 Canadian or American model has them. Only feature they have is auto levelling. ;) Some of these features are so subtle you think you have it on paper but cannot even tell. Honestly I never saw any difference except the headlight dance when starting up the Gen1. As mentioned, maybe I have just not been on a road where it makes a visual difference. Still pissed me off when I found out I did not have them when the specs say I do.

I do miss that option. I had it on my 2011 and I have it on my Infiniti G. On some dark rural roads for me it really makes a difference and is clearly an advantage. Don’t understand why they dropped it I guess to meet a price target. I would have gladly paid for it.

Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"

Has anyone with a newer build date noticed the hood flexing issue on the 3.8 rwd?

Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"

I've noticed with the low beams, they don't seam to illuminate that far forward. I've checked and both are level and shine the appropriate height.

I think Hyundai is a little conservative with regard to their headlight aiming. I've had to readjust the lights on both of my Gennys. Just make sure you don't overdo it to the point of blinding other drivers. It seems they can be raised quite a bit before that becomes a problem.

Gotcha.

Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"

Is there an adjustment on the headlight in the 2015, if so how is it performed?

Use a long Philips screwdriver inserted into white plastic tubes at each front corner of the engine compartment. Clockwise raises the pattern. I marked my garage wall with the existing pattern before I tried moving anything just to make sure I could return the adjustment to stock if I screwed anything up, but no problem.

It takes a bit of pressure to keep the screwdriver meshed with the adjusting screw and it takes a fair amount of turns to accomplish any noticeable movement, but use your head and you won't likely screw up anything. :) Good luck.

PS: I thought I moved mine maybe too much, but haven't had any complaints from other drivers so far so it's probably about right.

CKON:

How does that work/not work with the Auto Leveling? I thought that they would always default back to what they think is appropriate and let you not raise them.

I suppose you're just moving the reference used to auto level. I'm just glad it works. :)

Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"

This adjustment moves the whole headlight assembly, leveling mechanism and everything.

Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"

I know the bluelink remote start feature has been mentioned as a dislike (vs fob), but i could live with it if it were fully functional. The fact that the heated seats cannot be activated makes it nearly useless. Why warm my engine to go sit in cold leather seats? Major oversight by Hyundai/bluelink.

I have had remote starts for what seems like eons and way before most people in the states new what they were. I never had one where you could turn on the heated seats FYI. Normally the heat is on when the car is started and the car is nice and toasty when you get in. Don't really see the need for the heated seat part unless you start it 2 mins before getting in which is rather useless in all respects.

Not at all. Starting it 2 minutes prior covers 80% of my remote starts. I've had remote starters in all my vehicles since my '98 Subaru Legacy GT. I would agree that it is rare for a starter to be able to turn on seat heaters, but this is the first car that the heated seats default to off when the car is turned off. My previous vehicles could be turned off with the heated seats left on and they would be active the next time the car was started.

My disappointment with the bluelink remote start is that it COULD have the ability to turn on the seats and nullify this shortcoming. If i can remotely turn on the defroster and set climate control temperatures with the app, it wouldn't take much to toggle on the seats. It's a MAJOR oversight, imo.
