  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Recall/Free Tire Replacement???

I have 32K miles on my 2015 3.8 Ultimate so my tires were due to be replaced. I had them swapped yesterday as part of the campaign and the new tires are quite nice. They are definitely more 'compliant' and provide a smoother, quieter ride. With the Hankooks, I would get flat spotting when the temps were below 50 or so and also anything above 90, the car didn't feel smooth. I had the tires regularly rotated and balanced.

I know there are opposing views on this but I for one am satisfied. The top end reduction does not appear in any way to reduce overall performance. I am looking forward to getting onto the highway for an extended period of time and testing sound volumes as well as mileage. Also looking forward to wet weather to see how they handle.

The letter does not state a time frame other than your earliest convenience to exchange tires. Does any one know or asked what is the time frame of the tire exchange offer. 3.8 V6

Sounds very odd - I would check inflation - I always check inflation and lug nut torque after somebody does something like this anyway.

Also, it's possible the shop did some damage - I was a little worried that somebody might take the car for a little joy ride - big V8 and all that.

p.s. also do a size check - make sure the right tires wound up on the right wheels - since the front and rear are different - crossing one of the rear tires with one of the front tires would definitely be a no-no - but it could happen, since they are all 19" - on my car, anyway.

Bingo. Brought it back in (after finally being able to make an appointment that was finally honored..) they said there was damage on the inner wall of the right tires. They claim it wasn't them, but the pull was present right after picking it up at the dealership. Even reached out to the dealership as soon as I got home that day.

Dealership now denying responsibility. Looks like they want to play ball.

Sorry for being lazy and not reading all 26 pages - what's the conclusion, who's eligible for the replacement? Should one wait for a letter in the mail?

Wait for the letter. You get to decide. It's all good. Or, call your dealer and make it happen immediately. But the letter will come.

I plan to replace mine before the next horrible Houston winter, with those one or two days of freezing weather.

I received a letter and Jerry's Hyundai replaced my tires with Michliens NO Charge!!

I just made a round trip from Ft. Worth to Bentonville, Ar and the Michs ride just a BAD as the handkooks.

I hope to find a set of 17 inch wheels and install 215x60x17 tires to increase the sidewall for a better ride.

The FLAT tires (45 ratio) are not for an old man who has had 3 back surgeries.

I wish they still made Towncars.

Interesting, I did receive a card today from HMA but mine had a $50 gift card in it!

OP any idea if you can keep the old tires and the new set?? That would be bestest !

Hyundai requires the dealer to drill holes in the sidewall.

The letter I got for Gen 5.0 said I would get Continental Pro Contact tires and no mention of flashing for top speed.

Haven't read all 26 pages of post, but I'm seeing some say the vibration continued after installing the Michelins. I still have Hankooks and just got my letter. Sometimes I feel a vibration, or almost a slight wobble, that seems to be on right side. Usually after the car has been sitting for more than a few hours. But it goes away after about a mile. I just thought maybe the AWD system hadn't synchronized all 4 tires yet!? The Hankooks do have road noise and I feel the bumps more than I'd like, but understand I have Ultra HP tires for better handling, which I'm sure Hyundai wanted to promote on the 2nd generation Genesis. I'll wait, see what others say, and continue to use up my tread for as long as I can.

Got my letter today for my all wheel drive 3.6. Someone posted that the change was good for up to 3 years, but my letter says "At your earliest convenience". How long can I wait to get them exchanged? I have just about 15K on my car at this point.

That's terrible, Hyundai dealers should donate the Hankooks to local charities for people who really need a set of tires.

That is about the only thing that makes any sense. I have had the same experience with mine.
Good point about possibility of bad batch of Hankook tires. Or Hyundai realized the Ultra HP Hankooks don't match up well this heavy car and/or suspension. I made the mistake of replacing my OEM tires on my Ford Fusion, same brand, but with different model/compatible size and they destroyed my front suspension within months as they bounced around from all the road bumps. It's rolling the dice, when you buy a redesigned vehicle. We are the guinea pigs in the first year test ride!

While not arguing with the intent, I would question how many people who use charity services will need 19'' tires...

If they were using the same Hankooks when the testing with Lotus took place, that would be surprising. There was a lot of emphasis and focus on the ride, steering, suspension and tires according to Lotus Engineers and one has to assume those were the tires used to tune the suspension to meet their goals.

Exactly - so, with all of the development testing and tuning/collaboration with Lotus that they did, how did they miss a "problem" so significant that has caused them to offer to replace everyone's tires? See the link below at 7:34 minutes in - the Lotus engineer indicates that, while a little firmer than he might have liked, the tires chosen were the best of what they tested for what they were trying to accomplish with this car...

LOL, I went through that video before I posted my comment and missed that. I knew there had been a reference to the tires. Thanks.

How many people missed the fact that Hankooks are a staple sales product of Pep Boys?? A little odd.

Not sure what you mean - why is that odd?

Pep Boys is not exactly known for high end merchandise.

You might still be able to buy a fox tail there.

If you had a convertible.

And an antenna to hang it on.
