If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

2015/2016 Generation Genesis "Dislikes"

Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"

I would not use Pledge on that wood (or anything like that). Although there is spirited opinions on Pledge, it does contain silicone and for many is avoided. I would think a slightly damp cloth would be good enough to clean the wood as well as whatever is suggested by Hyundai (the manual does not mention anything).
Pledge may have silicone (I didn't check), but Pledge Cleaner does not have silicone. Look up the ingredients on the Pledge website. These are two different products.

I use a slightly dampened microfiber cloth to wipe down my wood, although fingerprints haven't been a real problem so far.

.

Neither of which are needed or helpful on that wood trim - what you do is probably best, damp cloth.

Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"

Assuming the wood trim is clearcoated. If so treat it just like paint.

Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"

I remember reading somewhere that the wood is open pores, not treated.

"Open pore" just means that the grain of the wood isn't being filled before the finish is applied. It still has a finish, just usually not glossy but matte.

Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"

The new genesis doesn't have a elapsed time timer, which shows how long the car has been driven. In the old genesis, the timer would automatically reset after the car was turned off more than 2 hours. The trip timer has the same function but it has to be manually reset.

Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"

Does the manual state what to use to keep the wood clean?

I tried this product yesterday and was very happy with it:

[ame="http://www.amazon.com/Meguiars-G16216-Ultimate-Interior-Detailer/dp/B00G49DUJY"]Amazon.com: Meguiar's G16216 Ultimate Interior Detailer - 15.2 oz.: Automotive[/ame]

The best part of this stuff is that it's advertised as (and appears to be true) that it's safe for anything. When applied with microfiber it makes a more satin finish than something like armor-all and it's not greasy at all. It really does seem to be a jack of all trades. The upper dash and wood come out a nice satin, but the stuff somehow also works for cleaning the nav screen and gauge cluster without streaking.

I would recommend starting out with the more delicate bits like the nav screen and then continuing on to the rest, but it was great to use one product for an entire interior wipe down. I'll still use a true leather conditioner occasionally for the seats, but this stuff really impressed me.

Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"

Been very happy with 1Z Einszett Cockpit Premium for all interior, including gauges, Nav screens, etc. Matte finish and UV protectant.

Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"

^The only thing that would make me nervous about that is that it only explicitly says safe for all PLASTIC surfaces. I'm sure it does work fine, but with the Meguiars I feel like if it melted wood/metal/plastic/leather while explicitly advertising being safe for all interior materials there might be some recourse. Nice to have another do-all option though. Now we have a satin and a matte suggestion.

Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"

I have used it for years on almost all interior surfaces with success. I do not use it on leather, but essentially on everything else (except windows obviously). Many detailers forums have recommended it for years.

Awesome. I will pick some up and try it on my Civic. Thank You for the link italiabrain .

Yes it does.

Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"

There is an elapsed timer that's built into the tripmeter, but it doesn't automatically reset after you turn off the car like it does in the first generation Genesis

Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"

The 2015 Genesis might be the only car/manufacturer where I wouldn't buy the new body style. I would seriously look at purchasing a 2014 RSpec....

Kind of a disappointment for me..... unless they change up a lot of the gripes people are reporting.

The "gripes" so far are actually pretty trivial for a brand new platform. If you are talking about styling, that is subjective and the general response by critics has been favorable. The early "issues" here such as voice recognition issues, iPod connectivity and BlueLink dissatisfaction are expected. Other concerns about lack of sporty features and positioning as a luxury sedan are marketing decisions that probably took into account where the weakness is in it's targeted competitor models. This may result is a car model which does not fit ones budget, style or performance needs, but it came pretty close to its mark as a worthy contender in the large luxury sedan market for what is still significantly less money, both short and long term.

As with any new platform, changes can be expected over time. So far, these issues pale when compared to the HPFP problems of BMW at the new model intro.

I have to agree. As someone doing some of the griping I'm very happy with my purchase overall and I've never had a car with nothing at all to criticize.

Agreed - As I still own a 2009 4.6 so I know about new platform glitches. For me it has more to do with some of the fit and finish and also the new styling. Seems like when the first gen Genesis came out they were competing with BMW/Mercedes. Now it appears their target audience is Audi/Infinity and their new styling reflects that.

The new body styling seems very underwhelming to me. It must not to the majority of people though or they wouldn't have made it. I'm sure they tested all of this prior to committing to the build.

Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"

I have 2015 Ultimate package.
would have preferred chrome trim
no fog lights
chrome rims, original rims always look dirty.
A lot of glare in windshield and rear window
