  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

2015/2016 Generation Genesis "Dislikes"

Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"

The other navigation systems I've used (Mercedes and Lincoln) have removed streets progressively as I zoomed out. This allowed me to find a happy medium between showing the streets I need and seeing streets at a far enough distance to plan for my turns. The system in my Genesis removes too many streets too quickly. On the 700' zoom level it shows almost all of the side streets, then on the next level out (0.25 mi IIRC) it shows none of them.

It is clear to me that this system was designed for large cities and major interstate highways, not rural areas. The auto zoom works perfectly on the interstate and when exiting from the interstate to the city. Even in the country the zoom level chosen by auto zoom is appropriate for the speed of the road, but it shows too few streets at that zoom level, and often shows a nearly blank screen (usually just the road I'm on).

Given the size and resolution of the 9.2" screen, it can certainly support showing more side roads without cluttering the map. During my last service, my loaner Elantra had what looked liked very similar software on a much smaller screen. I suspect the system may have been designed to support smaller screens.

The road on which I was driving has only disappeared on a couple of occasions. I believe I had auto zoom off each of those times. Each time it happened, I could see the road if I zoomed in close enough, but that was too close anticipate upcoming turns.

Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"

Anytime I want to check the side streets I simply turn the knob to zoom it. Then if you move the cursor to check another area, it stays zoomed.

Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"

Thanks for the advice. I had occasionally used the touchscreen +/- buttons to zoom; but I don't like using the screen while driving so the knob is more convenient.

I sometimes enter the destination into the navigation, even if I already know where I'm going. This allows me to use the navigation prompts to know when my turn is coming up.

Ideally, the system would adjust the number of streets for each zoom level based on the total number of streets in the area. Often in the country it'll get rid of a rural highway even if it's the only street for miles, and the road I'm on will be the only road on the map. Since this only happens in the country, it's not really a big deal.

Have you used the Google search function? This works awesome. Request a place to go, set as destination and your on your way. You can even request a destination in another city like example, "IHOP in Myrtle Beach"; it will bring up all the IHOP's in Myrtle Beach.

I second that... Works great on the app, and the mirror button. Much better than the built in nav. Although, now Google know where you are going. :)

Google already knows more about you then your own mother ;)

Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"

@ always & DRS, do you find it useful enough to pay 99 bucks to extend it another year?

Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"

Yes but as been noted in other posts, people are getting the renewals discounted. All around a better system than the NAV system. You can simply say Seafood Restaurants and it will pop up with all places near your current location. Not only will it list them all, but will give you a directional orientation from your current location as well as how many miles away.

The wife loved it for Shopping. She asked for Outlet malls. Malls, specific stores etc... and they popped up with a list local to our location. We have a restaurant we like to stop at when we go to the west coast. We simply say "Clock Restaurant in Arcadia" and it pops up on the screen. I recommend you go out a try it out. Press the button on your mirror. The system takes about a minute to gain access after you first start the car but once it is up and running, remaining active until your shut off the car.

Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"

Okay here's a dislike directed at Sirius XM Data's Weather. I have my system set to pop-up alerts for severe weather within a range of 50 miles. I have three gripes about the system:

  1. The alerts don't show a timestamp or alert expiration time. If I see an alert, I have no idea if that alert is still relevant or recent (other than looking at the weather radar)
  2. Perhaps related to or because of #1, my system will still pop up alerts from several days ago
  3. Due to #2, there is no way of indicating that an alert has been read and accounted for

Maybe these are all different variations of the same item. In any case, whomever programmed the system has not learned how important the timestamp is, and that's almost universal across any type of database. Even if it's not a field that's time related, many times it's useful to have a time to track when it was changed for audit history.

Yes, yes. Did I say yes? :) worth every penny to me. And I also have my calendar linked to the app.. I am making sure addresses are in the calendar.. The app will send directions to the appointment to the car. And be ready to start the car.

Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"

Have had my 15 V8 Ultimate about 4 months and 9000 miles. Primary dislikes are:

Blind Spot Warning - left side constantly gives false warnings on 2 lane roads with no on-coming or following traffic. Traveling opposite direction on same road does not result in right side blind spot warning.

Voice Command - virtually useless for navigation and spotty for phone.

Blue Tooth - frequently sounds like talking through guitar strings. No problem when talking to same people on phone w/o using cars Blue Tooth.

I'd take your system in to have the sensors adjusted. I drive on 2 lane roads a lot at highway speeds and have never had that problem

I use Bluelink for Nav directions and it's actually pretty good. Haven't tried the normal voice commands though, mostly because I've heard they have a lot to be desired (and also because the Bluelink method is so much easier).

Blue Tooth - frequently sounds like talking through guitar strings. No problem when talking to same people on phone w/o using cars Blue Tooth.

Try playing music through your bluetooth. If it too sounds distorted, you might have a problem. I had a problem with my BT and had to have my head-unit replaced.

I can not get this feature to work. I'm sure its me. I'm usually very good with electronics but I'm doing something wrong. Please advise procedure to link calendar or where I can look it up.

Thanks

Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"

Thanks Aquineas, had it to the dealer for blind spot but could not duplicate, now I know how my wife feels when she tells me about a problem with her car. I have a trip coming up so will try streaming audio from phone, good call.

Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"

wish the car would unlock the door when you walk up to it.

wish the headunit would display text messages.

window tint as an option from factory would have been nice.

Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"

What I’ve always wanted to see like my 2007 Infiniti is specific fobs for each auto settings. Can’t be that hard to do.

Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"

Also really miss my extendable visors from previous Azera. Best car I ever had for visors was an 87 Sable. It had an extendable main visor and then had a thin second visor that just folded down, great for a quartering sun. Main visor extended down left side and secondary forlded down.

Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"

Not sure if you are referring to something else when you say extendable but the Genesis definitely has visors that extend.

I mean a center piece that slides out from the inside the visor, allowing it to extend from approximately 16 to 24 inches in length.
