2015 Hyundai Genesis Sedan Spy Photos

I don't think it's a tremendous oversight, especially if you consider the take rate of LED headlights on the ideal competitors. It is somewhat disappointing, but the fact that they didn't release with the KDM model doesn't bode well. I wouldn't be surprised if we see them on the next Equus. I would be happy with the double projector with the LED turn signal. I just don't like that central amber light at all.

It is a trmendous oversight if only because the Genesis' top competitors offer full LED headlights as an option. As I mentioned before, we have yet to see a 5.0/RSpec model yet, so it is possible we can still get it. I can't imagine Hyundai would waste time, effort and money to test those lights with an orange reflector only to not offer it at all.

I'm not sure of the sentiment of not buying a car because it does not have an option that is currently a small percent of the market (LED is only 2% of headlights produced worldwide this year). It will be 2020 before they reach 20% market (source: Osram). At a cost currently twice that of xenon, it is still not close to mainstream and aside from some exceptions (ex. Prius), targeted at vehicles not in the Hyundai buyers target.

While they look cool and I hope they are available, their absence would not deter from what may be a otherwise stunning car.

I have to agree. IMO the dual projectors and full LEDs clearly look better, but I wouldn't just cross the Genesis off my list if it didnn't offer them.

Update: I did some investigating on Photoshop with the back hidden part on the count down page, and it indeed does have the hyundai emblem for the back. Also I notice the dual pipes.

It's safe to say what I mentioned above will likely be that way.

Great work! I also spy with my little eye quad exhaust tips.

I require either the dual projector lenses or full LED. The single projector look horrible, and are filled with chrome. Either they offer one, or I find a source with the dual projector headlights for a fair net price (acquisition of new minus sale of old).

I certainly don't mind people knowing it's a Hyundai. I imagine, like with the previous model, that it will be a frequent question. I just hate that drunk-looking H. I'm wondering if they really will use the Genesis logo anywhere. Rebadging is just another headache imo. With this and the lights they'd better not also shoot the price through the roof.

I feel more or less the same. Dual projectors are simply classier, more elegant, more effective, and constitute the barest minimum option in 2014 for a car in the target class.

I can afford the German alternatives but am a huge proponent of bang for the buck. As long as Hyundai provides the features, performance and reliability I want with styling I enjoy, the choice is easy. But, I will not forgo basic features just to save some money, and I suspect there are a not insignificant number out there who will make the same choice.

The importance of the option depends greatly on how many of those competitors are actually purchased with that option. If the take-rate is only 2% then only some subset of those 2% of potential customers will see that as a down-side big enough to choose a different car. This may make offering them a legitimately bad business decision, especially when it comes to advertising the price range. Adding $1k or more to the "fully" equipped price likely means a lot to Hyundai's advertising strategy (presuming they can't hugely undercut the pricing of the Germans). It may vary regionally, but I've literally never seen any of the Germans equipped with the full LED's out in the wild where I live.

As for the not having seen a 5.0/RSpec; we have certainly seen a 5.0. One of the spy pics from weeks ago showed the dual intake on the V8 (hood open) and that model had the chrome-filled single-projector headlights. It also had the quad exhaust. I'm not sure that it was posted on this thread, I'll see if I can find it. There is a decent likelihood that quad exhaust and V8 go together. If so, that brightened pic from the Hyundai website is a V8, again with the lower level lights.

As for effort and money to test and not use on the dual-projector with LED turn signal. They're on the KDM for sure and KDM is over half of their total expected sales of the car. They would be far from the first option for Hyundai to spend dev costs on and not bring to the US.

I'm not claiming to know they're not going to offer them, and I hope they do. The evidence suggests it's more likely they won't IMO.

I hope this is possible if they don't offer them in the US. I think it will depend on how it's wired. If the projectors share a ballast you should be fine, but if the dual model has a ballast per HID projector you're talking about wiring and voiding warranties. Too high of a risk/reward for me.

Which KDM version is getting these? They are full LED, which was not on any of the KDM models, and have an orange lens for the US market.

That's a test car.

NO LED Headlights in KDM version. Hyundai confirmed it in Q&A session at a meeting with test drivers this month. It was a face to face talk. I guess No LED headlight in US version, neither.

I don't know what else to say except re-read what I said (which you quoted). We're talking about 3 levels of headlight. Whether or not it was an oversight was concerning the all-LED, dev costs concerned dual-projector. Full-LED is almost certainly not coming to the USDM. Dual projector looks like long odds too. The third is the one we're getting, the one no one on here seems to want.

I understand that it is a test car, but those are fully tooled and produced headlamps. Tooling a headlamp like that is very costly, and it would be surprising if not used. They do not develop headlights for model refreshes during the initial model R&D.

The talk of tooling costs in this thread is about the FULL LED headlamps in my prior post, which are fully tooled and produced in that picture. Pre-production lamps are left concealed. I get that the autoblog pre-production model is a US version, but still find it difficult to believe that the full led lamps were taken to that point only to be scrapped and not offered on any trim.

Basically, I am just putting this out there, but we will find out in a couple weeks. Here's to hoping that they surprise us, for once.

As part of the Hyundai Think Tank I have been invited to the Hyundai HQ in Fountain Valley, Ca next Saturday for a walk around of the 2015 Genesis. No photos allowed but I will give you all I can regarding description next Saturday by noon Pacific Time. Thank you Hyundai! These guys know how to win the loyalty of their customers.

Please advise if the Genesis will have contoured seats with active bolsters. I need to know since i have a new 2013 4800 mile Rspec and the seat design is seriously lacking. I do not want to trade in my Rspec Genesis for a better seat in another brand. I simply want to trade my 2013 for a 2015 if the seat is upgraded since I love the Genesis, but cannot drive it very long before the lacking seat and telescoping wheel makes it so that I cannot drive.

From the articles I have read, the 2015 is going to take care of the issues I need. And if you can give an idea of when the 2015 will be at the dealers .... Thanks and enjoy your visit with Hyundai. Regards

I am the guy who was given a ride along in a 2015 Genesis under full camouflage a week ago. I have to be honest, the car even without LED headlights is going to surprise you. We own a 2012 Audi Convertible, I regularly drive my neighbors A7 and I find the Genesis a more enjoyable cabin to be in than either. This is a real step up from my 2013 Genesis. In fact, shockingly better. The headlights were definitely projector lamps. But make no mistake, this car is done right.

From what I've seen of the 2015 Genesis they spent money on a plethora of areas that will make this car exponentially better. LED headlamps won't make the car better like better seating, improved suspension and rack mounted power steering, nicer dash, heads up display, 9.2" nav screen, real wood dash, more high strength steel and a more elegant product all adding up to a lot of $$ in cost. Somewhere they have to make a value judgement. The car is still going to be beautiful. I'll tell you more when I see the finished product next Saturday with no camouflage.
