  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Alternatives to G70?

Is anybody bothered by the interior of the new Sonata? It upsets me that the G70 seems like its missing things in terms of a larger center screen and a digital cluster.
Not one bit. I love the G70 interior and the analog cluster.

I'm noth bothered at all. I love the way my G70 looks. I wouldn't even think to look at the Sonata as a G70 competitor. Completely two different leagues.

Agree, for sure not a competitor. Just talking in terms that they are produced by the same company :)

Honestly, cannot wait for my G70. My local dealer said they're getting a Dynamic Edition sometime in May. Dreaming of it at night...

I agree with what @Slip_Angle and @danygenesis said above. I'm not bothered in the least. I LOVE the interior of my G70. Everything is fantastic, in my opinion. This car is much more driver oriented than the Sonata; but even so, the interior tech offers plenty for my needs. And like previously mentioned, I prefer the G70's gauges!

compared to g70:

lexus, infinity, acura = meh, not interested
bimmer 330i = underpowered, bmw nickels and dimes for leather and features, m sport package is expensive and watered down and barely performance related
bimmer m340i = bmw nickels and dimes for leather and featuers, xdrive starts at $56K, higher than the high end of g70
merc amg cla 45 = nice but merc nickels and dimes for leather and features too, comparable to g70 is over 60K
merc amg c 43 = same as cla 45
audi s3 = the only real alternative? similarly equipped for similar price, but the s3 is 8 full inches shorter than the g70. and audi hasnt updated much stylistically in a while so the look may be a little dated by now. stock exhaust pops and crackles which is pretty fun...
audi s4 = dont like the styling as much as the s3 and the price starts at the high end of g70 pricing
volvo s60 = omg im not that old
golf r = rather just get the audi, i quit hatchbacks when subaru killed the wrx hatch
wrx / sti = love driving the cars, love having a clutch and 6 speed, but im getting too old for the image. if they'd make a 6 speed manual sti version of the legacy i'd probably get with it.

genesis = no dealers in colorado

so, get an s3?

^ go for the S4...or S5 Sportback. Absolutely closest competitor.

I almost got the S4. I negotiated 10% off MSRP + several incentives bringing the price within a grand or 2 of the G70.

There may be 2018 stock leftover as well.

LMFAO my thoughts exactly!

Like Beefer said, the s4/5 are the best competitors for the G70, but god damn are they expensive. Could probably get at least 15% off a 2018 model if you can find it though. An Audi salesman called me the other day to ask if I was still interested knowing full well I wouldn't consider it ($67k S4) unless I had 20% off and I turned her down. $53,600 is still 7k above the price I'm going to get my G70 for, so it was a no brainer

I think you’ve mentioned that you’ve owned/driven both? Besides maybe the digital instrument cluster, what if any advantages do you think the S4 has over the G70?

Also cross shopping the S4 and only real advantages in my mind were the digital cluster and maybe interior overall though those are subjective and personal preference applies. Performance and driving dynamics-wise sounds like the G70 holds up very well to any of those mentioned above and I like the warranty coverage.

Driven both, not owned.

The crackles/pops in the exhaust, I prefer the look of the interior a bit more, but it could be the carbon fiber trim that I'm really noticing. The MMI/Nav/center console are cleaner imo and I do like having a knob near the arm rest to control it, but not deal breakers. Like Beefer said, the room in the back/trunk is definitely noticeably greater. The flat bottom steering wheel is going to be a sore spot for me, but maybe I'll be able to find a replacement someday. S4 has massage seats, but G70 has cooled seats. From a California (and other hot states) standpoint, cooled seats in the summer are going to be worth their weight in gold compared to some ass vibration/"shiatsu."

Performance wise I felt like the S4 didn't really excite me as much off the launch as a 440i or G70. Don't get me wrong, that's not a bad thing nor slow, but "business as usual" isn't the reaction I want when flooring it. I prefer "what the f$%k just hit me?" (the answer is your headrest :hillarious:). The steering feel felt nimble as I weaved a little traffic in the S4, whereas the G70 steering felt heavy (subjective opinion) through the 3-4 90-degree right turns I made(no traffic that day).

One of the biggest things I credit the G70 for is the maintenance costs aren't going to be as high and I'm assuming it will not have as many issues in years 4-6 like the Germans are more likely to have. It is a Hyundai after all, right? Factor in the extra cost for leather, sport suspension/brakes, cold weather package for heated rear seats (you also lose the flat bottom wheel with this), black optic package, etc and the cost just gets so daunting. As much as I love German cars, the tax for a "prestigious reputation" is too damn high. Audi won't negotiate much on a new S-model car either (usually) and I'd assume the same for the BMW with the M340i.

Keeping in mind I drove a 3.3t Elite for my test drive. I can update when I buy my 3.3t Sport, but I'd imagine that my train of thought would just be confirmed/in-line.

^ S4/A4/S5/A5 do not have massaging seats. Only heated and ventilated (you lose the nice nappa seats).

Check your research. The S4 and S5 have massage seats and lack the ventilated feature on the Nappa leather Seats. The Milano leather seats in the warm weather package adds ventilation, but you lose the diamond stitching

^ I see that now. I wonder if this is new for 2019. I swear I did not see this in the 2018. I'd rather have ventilated anyway.

Nah, they definitely have them in the 2018s. Agreed the vents are better. Unfortunate that it means losing the diamond stitched seats though. I think its a very luxurious touch to have "quilted" (looking) seats

I am on the market for a RWD sport sedan right now, a little background:
I used to have a 2007 Mazda MX5 that I loved and that is my benchmark for everything in terms of driving. I have been driving a BMW 128i Manual with sport pack for 9 years. The car was the closest thing I could find with a back seat that brought me about the same fun as the MX5. I love the 128i but it is getting old, and so am I and starting recently, I am dropping my kids at school in the AM so the added convenience of rear doors would be welcome. I am a car nuts and I have been following the arrival of the Stinger and the G70 very closely. I am at the point that I will finally pull the trigger on a new car and so far here is what I am considering:

- Alfa Romeo Giulia Ti Sport: the looks, the chassis, and the steering are fantastic but it is over 50k loaded and I am having a hard time to spend that money for a 4 cylinder. Remember, I come from a NA straight six (with a BMW performance exhaust) and sound is a big part of driving fun
- Mercedes AMG C43: love the sound with the AMG Performance Exhaust but it is VERY pricey (>65k), contemplating a slightly used one but they are hard to find with the optional exhaust. Not in love with the idea of a used car though (I am very picky). I have even considered a used C63 but concerned about the cost of maintenance (they eat their brakes very fast) and the total discomfort (they are rock hard).
- BMW 330i/M340i: no way for the 4 cylinders and the M340i is going to be over the top in prices, plus I don't care for the looks and they are going to be EVERYWHERE in a few months.
- Jaguar XE: they just announced the 2020 but pricey, especially for a 4 cylinder, plus I don't care for the interior,
- Kia Stinger GT2: I like it but it is BIG and I find it less luxurious.

I am narrowing on the G70 that checks all the right boxes (haven't test drove one though since there is no dealer in Nashville): love the looks, all I have seen in reviews, interior, the 3.3t engine and all the equipment you get for the same price as the Alfa.

Not to shit on the Alfa because it looks amazing to me, but I have heard about issues in regards to servicing and the low number of dealerships.

Not sure how old the kids are, but that 6 inches of length you trim moving from the GT2 Stinger to the G70 seems to come mostly from the rear legroom

Alpha looks nice. Take a look at reliability though. Has half the powertrain warranty too.

I guess the Alfa should have been on my list as well but I'd probably just try to buy a used Quad and the reliability issues are far too scary to really consider.

They're still young and any 4 door will be an upgrade for them coming from my 1 series coupe :)
