  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Any high mileage Genesis owners out there??

I'm not familiar with "resetting the adaptives." My transmission is shifting a bit weird at 142,000 miles and that might do the trick for me?

I reset the adaptives with the Hyundai GDS scan tool. I work at an independent used car dealership and we have the factory Hyundai/Kia scan tool. You can reset your adaptives with the scanner and then do the re-learn procedures.

Now at 190,000 miles, 2011 Genesis 4.6 purchased new Sept. 2010. I love this car. Everything is running/working great .

Very nice and great to hear! Can you tell me about your oil change intervals? I do it every 4-5K mi and the dealer tells me they use a synthetic blend (not 100% synthetic) and use 5W-20. They even tell me it is a Quaker State

No oil consumption?

I change the oil and use oem filter every 5000 miles. I have always used Valvoline Synpower 5w30 full synthetic oil. Never any oil consumption. The engine is still smooth and quiet.

My 2010 V6 Sedan is the best car I've ever owned, expect for maybe a couple of things. Right now I have 112K. Eng and tranny have been fine. I got 35K out of the Dunflops that came on it, 65K out of the first set of Conti Pure Contacts. Would have been at least 5K more, but hit something in the road and tore one up. Didn't want one new, you know. Now on the second set of Contis. I'm up for new plugs, but am having trouble finding directions on the RH side plugs. The Hyundai Tech website used to be free, but they started charging, a lot. Other than the GPS being the biggest piece of crap, the car is a pleasure. Oh, on long trips when it's quiet, I can hear some differential whine, but it's small, and the dealership won't do anything about it.

does your car make a different tone from 1-2k rpm? not sure if its me or the car, dealership says they cant find anything wrong with it.

Questions for the group:
1. How many of you had an extended warranty? Did you need it?
2. Did you have to replace any expensive components?
3. Are you still using the dealership for maintenance?

1. no extended warranty
2. no, and have 195,000 miles on my 2011 4.6 with tech
3. yes, for major services such as transmission service.

I do have extended warranty, but have not needed it. I still have plugs, 2nd trans fluid, 2nd coolant change. Last oil change, I had the dealer check out the brakes, and they said it had plenty left. I have 115K and love the brakes. To this day, I haven't seen any brake dust. The car does scare me though when I think of it needing service. Most items on this car involve something electronic, and pretty well eliminates maintenance at home. I've had all the regular scheduled service done at the dealer, because there'll be a record of it, and, I can't buy the materials for what they charge, and every 4th oil change is free. Love going on long trips in this car.

I am literally at 98300 miles as of pulling in the parking lot for work this morning.
My 12 Prem. had a little over 30k when I got her in 2014. I drive about 500 miles a week for work.
I have the WRAP warranty and the only issues I have had replaced under warranty ($50.00 deductible):
1. Rear door lock actuator (door would not lock/unlock)
2. NAV/RADIO blank screen (WHEW!)
3. Brake system fail (no deductible needed)

I changed to full synthetic (so they said) at the dealer. For $79.00 it better be! I told them I think it is my last oil change there and I should start doing it myself :)

My only concern now is the master window switch is finicky. I took it out and spray contact spray so it works most of the time. My warranty covers it but Im in no rush to spend $50.00

Last but not least, at idle i have that good ole VIBRATION found on some high mileage cars. What could that be? My motor/transmission mounts? I do not drive my Genny hard. I HATE vibrations I don't care if they are small or not. My 1994 accord which had 220k miles on it had a slight vibration which turned out to be the transmission mounts. I REALLY don't want to try to fix that.

Any suggestions would be great!

Thanks everyone

The 2009 to 2011 3.8 engines have solid lifters. I don't know about 2012 but if yours has solid lifters then they may need adjustment to smooth out the engine. Most dealers overlook this service requirement.

I have an '09 with 120k. No extended warranty, if memory serves me right they replace an LED light for the rear seat (strangely not a DIY job) under warranty, I think that may be the only service! I'm a slacker when it comes to oil changes, every ~6k-7k, but knock wood seems to not have been an issue. I have the dealer do it when I swap out for my winter wheels/tires. I'll probably have a local place do the next brake service (they're cheaper and I like them for my other cars). I don't think I could be happier with my Genesis, but I remember it being a crap shoot when I got it (first year model and such). My brother has a '15 and is very pleased so far.

Bill K, at 4K a year, that Genesis should last many, many years if you take care of it. Well, maybe if you don't drive it on salty roads!

Sigh

It is time for service no?
:)

I LOVE this car....may buy another with 100k on it.
MAYYYY . <--- hard to find in good condition and less than $15k!!

Bought a 2009 3.8 v6 at over 220k miles in march, 2015. Now at about 250k miles, the only repair I've had to do is change a faulty power steering pump about a month ago. Otherwise, just routine oil change and service every six months and it still rides like new!!!

great post... I was on the fence about going with Genesis because of longetevity but am confident more than ever they will last a long long time

How would you describe your driving style? Floor it often when merging or casually go through the RPM range.

When you say service every six months are you referring to the recommended service by Hyundai which is based on mileage?

1. I did have an extended warranty along with prepaid maintenance. I used it maybe 2-4 times on smaller items YMMV.
2. No but then again everything on the car is expensive, the seat tract is 700 ish to fix.
3. I use the prepaid Maintenance just incase my engine go KabOOM that way they do have records of me doing maintenance on it and cant deny me of a claim, plus depend on where you buy it, and when you buy it, it may be cheaper

checking in 163k...new front strut need replacing. This car has been more reliable than my 2002 Acura RSX-S (Honda civic SI) not as fun, but super comfortable. drove 18 hours and dint feel like I got roughen up by a cheap hooker. The lexicon audio is honestly the best, I've been inside a BMW and a new Jeep Cherokee, their sound system is not that good, too much bass and the clarity isnt there with the lexicon system. I really want this to be the Million Mile Genesis aka Matt Farrah million mile Lexus but honestly I'll be happy if it last to 200k. Maintenance has been regular, 3500-5000 miles, the nearest dealership I took it to, for some reason put 7500.

70000 miles on my 2012 R-Spec. Still holding up. Replacing the rotors soon though. And a minor "tick" sound coming from my front suspension (separate post forth-coming). Seems like the automatic shifting isn't as "sporty" as I'd like but it's been like that since I bought it (at 39000 miles). Other than that, it's still a beast. Oh, and I had to have the SCC module replace, but it was still under warranty at that time thank God
