Coupe Brembo Retrofit

Hard to see behind the OEM 18s:

Initial impressions: A lot more confidence in braking, sharper initial "bite". As for fade resistance, we will see over the next few days, leaving out for Tennessee tomorrow morning and will play plenty on the Dragon and other driving roads in the area over the next few days.

Haha I just remembered. You put sedan calipers on your coupe and coupe calipers on your sedan.

I remember you posting the coupe swap awhile back on the other site we frequent.

Nothing wrong with it. From what Iremember you're coupe didn't have brembos. Still funny and kind of Ironic.

Yeah I had a basic 3.8 Coupe, so single pistons front and back. I ran 2009 Sedan 4.6 front calipers, rotors and Hawk HPS pads. A good step forward from what I had.

After some extended road trip driving today and I want to put this out there:

- If you like the cushy, forgiving brakes of your Sedan, then a Brembo swap is not for you.

The brakes are quite touchy, a bit of a learning curve with the wife in the car to try to keep her from faceplanting into the dash any time we came up to a light with a bit of speed :D

I can only begin to imagine what it would be like with a more aggressive pad like Carbotech XP10.

For financial reasons I didn't get SS lines or do the rears just yet. I ended up getting Powerslot rotors and HPS pads from genracer. They bite waaaay better than stock.

Will do I just did the fronts for money reasons, I'll prob do the rears in the coming months. I'll def post better pics when the weather gets better. Thanks!

84Ford and 66nexus: Now that you've had some time to drive with the Brembos, I'm curious....any issues with brake noise/squealing? I've heard on the coupe forums that certain folks have some issues with brake squeal with the Brembos. Thanks.

Where is everyone getting their calipers from? Is this a direct bolt on modification or is there something that has to be modified?

Depends on the pads you choose. I went with Performance Friction Carbon Metallic pads and yes, after the Dragon run they are squealing. I will probably end up picking up two sets of Carbotech pads, one set to daily on and a second, more aggressive, set for the mountain runs. Pad changes on the Brembos take like 5 minutes per wheel.

I sourced mine through various junk yards, car-part.com is a great junk yard search engine. Sometimes you can find sets on Ebay for $700 to $1200.

Everything is direct bolt on, only the rear dust shield needs to be bent back or trimmed.
 
So I started sourcing mine. So far I picked up a set of StopTech slotted/drilled rotors, StopTech pads, and StopTech braided sedan lines. Once I sell my turbo accessories I will be ordering my calipers.

Just hoping that my new wheels clear the calipers without spacers. I ended up ordering a set of TSW Jarama wheels 20x8.5 +40mm.
 
The Brembo front calipers are skinnier than the Mando calipers you currently have, so front fitment will be no issue. Rear Brembos are only slightly thicker than the factory single piston, it should still clear no issue at that offset.

Awesome thanks man. I was going to go staggered fitment but, I have kids... ain't no body got money for that ish when they want toy's at every opportunity lol
 


Been running them for over 4 months, still ride great. When I get hard on the brakes they squeal for a few minutes before quieting again after cooling.
 
I still need to do this.
 
My SSR's are BBK friendly, hence my bacon fenders. lol. I'll be good...
