  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Genesis Sedan bulb sizes

I must admit I tried the V-LEDS.com bulbs that Gimli tried,

("Now I tried the 1157 LED bulbs I got a while ago for the front blinkers and they work very well. They are bright (maybe a bit brighter than stock but not much) but not blinding and have a very nice, deep, amber colour.")

and found they were no where near as bright as stock. Maybe at night on a lampless street, but certainly not in daylight. They are barely noticeable.

I have also tried 60-LED towers for the rear turn signals (at $40 each), even another 'high-power' variant, and still quite pitiful compared to stock. IMHO, it's going to be a while before LEDs are as bright as incandescents regardless of price. AM disappointed, but I'll take safety over 'cool' any day....

Strange because LED flashlights are much brighter than standard bulbs. I have a 900 lumen LED flashlight that lights up the entire backyard. For brake lights another advantage of LEDs is their quicker on time.

Can anyone provide help with front parking light bulb replacement? I have replaced the highbeams, but I would like to replace the parking lights with something whiter (I have HID's on low). I don't want to force the sockets, do they twist, snap? Anyone replaced these and found good LED's? If not I was thinking of PIAA's, they make a "blue" bulb that is supposed to be white.

Are you speaking of the parking lights (amber) or the "position lights" located inbetween the headlights? If so, they are standard 194 wedge bulbs. The socket just pulls out with no twisting if I remember correctly.

The "position lights" in the high beam reflector. I tried twisting, was afraid to pull hard on wires or socket,

Thanks for reply.

From this thread, I've gleaned that it's hard to get to the position lights...true?

I'm tempted to buy one of those T10 LED replacements off of eBay, but I don't want to have to take everything apart. :(

Well, with some assistance from this forum, I found that replacing the position lights was pretty easy. Just don't rush it, and enjoy working on such a fine automobile and it will be very easy. The bulbs actually just pull out, with no twist.

If you want my opinion on bulbs, I personally stay away from ebay. I've had great experience with Autolumination.com, although there are other sites to order from. One thing i've learned from LED's throughout the years is to not go cheap on the bulbs. Spend some money, and you won't regret it.

Thanks, Scott... I saw that the bulbs themselves were easy to pull out...more worried about the difficulty getting to them.

Point taken about eBay. For me, it's the trade-off between saving some money and either the risk of damage or the difficulty of replacement. For example, it's not really that expensive or hard to change a festoon bulb, but it sounds like it's more hassle for any of the primary bulbs.

Thanks for the reply! :)

Just a little courtesy reminder for those changing the position lights in the front housings.

Most LED options will work fine...HOWEVER...DO NOT USE YOUR HIGH BEAMS with these installed. Unless you know for sure that the LED's housing is HIGH HEAT RESISTANT.

The LED sits too close to the high beam. I have burned a set out within an evening and smelled the melting plastic through the ventilation.

I would only use GLASS bulbs in this area unless you can find some LED's with a high heat tolerance.

Great advice, thanks.

Do you think these will work?

Good tip Ping. I use a high temp bulb in mine ($10 a piece) and use my high beams frequently with sylvania silverstar ultra's in them, and no issues thus far.

Mind sharing the source? :)

Try Autolumination.com

You'll want to find the wedge bulbs (194) also known as license plate bulbs (even though the Genesis doesn't use these for the license plate bulbs.

There will be many to choose from, and it's important to read the descriptions to make sure you are choosing a bulb that is for high heat applications to avoid bulb failure.

Try the following:

194sshs_w_wm.jpg

Outfitted with the latest Super High-Flux low profile Leds

Designed especially for gauges, and applications requiring a large uniform field of bright light

Note: These have the all metal heat sinks for constant-on applications to reduce heat related failures

Only 9mm diameter x 24mm overall

Order 194 Superstar Bulbs (shown above): $6.99 ea.

Or, If you don't want LED bulbs, you could use the following and they are much less money then the overpriced PIAA's.

$1.49/bulb

They also say, "Caution Do Not look directly at these bulbs!
The "RB" in the part number stands for Retina Burners. Although they won't really burn out your retinas (at least we don't think) they are bright! At 105 lumens each this bulb is easily 10 times brighter than a standard incandescent bulb. By far our most powerful 194 bulb we have made to date."

They probably shouldn't be used in the position bulbs because those are directly viewable by oncoming drivers and the glare from these could be a serious problem. Glare isn't just caused by total amount of light, but by intensity of light (output divided by size.) You wouldn't want some one veering into you as they stare at these intense spots.

I wonder if they'd work as backup lights though...to replace the 921's. The base should be the same. The question is will the rest of the bulb fit without interference and will the light flood be better than the stock backups, which are designed for the filament.

Reminds me of what happened to me last summer. I was outside the house, taking the trash down, at night. I had a 600 lumen LED flashlight in my hand. When I pointed it down at the cans it caught the eye of a driver coming down my street and he veered right towards the light and bang....took out one of my trash cans. Classic case of car following eyes that they tell you about in drivers Ed.

OK guys I have tried to remove the front parking lights from my car when I was changing the high beams. How hard were you guys pulling on this little thing? this there some sort of button/clip I'm missing?

Regarding the vanity mirror bulb. How do you remove the lens, pry the entire case or just the lens? I want to use the 12v for my Radar detector.
Thanks,
Tom

You can buy something called a stealth chord which can connect to the rear view mirror or rain sensing harness. Thats what I did with my V1. Unless you have a more sophisticated system or want to put your detector in a certain location?

I want to replace the H8 fog lamp with an LED version.

Has anyone successfully completed this conversion?

What specs do I need to consider?

Is there a heat level I need to know about?

Company you bought it from?

Thanks
