  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hyundai Genesis: post up your compliments/stares/double takes thread

I live in southern NH, where newer Gen Ford Fusions are EVERYWHERE. And I get a lot of double takes, because I guess people first see the car and assume it is a Fusion and then realize wait a second, what the hell is that?? The wing emblem gets confusing since Chrysler, Bently, Mini, Genesis, Asti Martin, etc all use it.

After filling up the tank today, a guy said "Wow, that's a really nice car. What kind is it"? I said thanks and told him it was a Genesis. He looked stumped and didn't say anything. I was in a hurry to get to work, so I opened the door and started to get in, when he shouted "Hey, who makes Genesis"? I couldn't resist...and I yelled back "SEGA"! Again that puzzled look. LMAO 😁

For sure its a hard card to describe, I've had to meet people a couple times lately. If I tell them I'm in a genesis they have no idea what they are looking for so I just tell them the fancy looking beige car. I still have the only one in town so it get's a lot of looks.

Yeah - most people still don't know what they are. When in a "Corona Pick Up" line, I just tell them "The Big Ass Grey Car"....

I get looks and stares alot and people walking around it trying to figure it out. Mines 2015 is debadged only badges i have is the wings on the hood and trunk. Mines came with the wings ont the trunk. everyone looks surprised at the puddle lights and when i show them the keycard they have this look of amazement. A few people have asked to see the interior and a few actually went to purchase one after seeing mines.

The second day of ownership, I had my gf and her daughter with me. We were on the highway driving to dinner and were about a mile from the exit ramp. After moving into the right lane, I looked in the rear view mirror and observed a black vehicle change lanes and was approaching quickly. The car got within a few lengths behind me and I noticed it is a previous gen Genesis sedan. I then observed the operator/passenger pointing at my car and give thumbs up out the window as I was exiting the highway.
I’m 20 years old and I have a ‘16 ultimate, all black. And everytime I’m at the college bars the ladies eat the it up! Fellas this the best 24k I’ve ever spent. It’s done me services that you can’t get, asking for. ;) if you know what I mean. (For all the young G2 owners out there)

It's been a little over a year ago I was at a building I own waiting for the electrician to come fix some work he had done and I was talking to my tenant. The electrician came in and said "Who owns that black car out there?" pointing to my Genesis. After telling him it was mine he started saying he'd never seen a car that looked as nice as that...yada yada yada... and I thought "Great, but not in front of the guy that thinks he pays me too much in rent! Especially since I bought it used and it's an affordable luxury car!" It did look good out in the parking lot though!

trust me if you go to South Korea, there are more genesis than the pickup trucks here in the US

So, sometimes I just wash and dry my Gen 2 sedan, and other times - if the extended weather forecast is favorable - it gets the full treatment with spray detailer (or wax) and tire shine. Yesterday was a "complete works" day so it's looking especially nice. Today, as I was returning to my car at the far end of the Home Depot parking lot, a guy in a pickup slows down next to me and says, "Nice car - what is that?" I tell him, and he asks, "Do you like it?" I said, "I guess so; it's the third one I've owned." He listened politely as I prattled on about how you could spend MORE for a car but you won't get any more car for your money than you get with a Genesis, blah, blah, blah.

How much is Hyundai paying for a finder's fee these days, anyway?

My Dad still thinks it's an Audi....

My Dad still thinks it's an Audi....
In January 2008 I went to the North American Auto Show in Detroit. It's a pretty overwhelming display of what the automakers are introducing that year and what they are working on for future years. I wandered into the Hyundai exhibit area (lots of Sonatas as I recall). I spotted a Mercedes (or so I thought) with a lot of extra spotlighting on it and signage around it. I thought it was odd that MB would have encroached into Hyundai's space. I sat in the Cabernet Red car and immediately saw the Flying H on the steering wheel and said to my friend, "This is a freaking HYUNDAI!"

I think your dad gets a pass. I think many agree that the Gen 1 Genny is the MB lookalike and the Gen 2 is the Audi.

Well... I guess it's honest. The DH was styled by former Audi Head Designer, Peter Schreyer.... There IS a lot of "Audi-ness" in it.

Not liking my now inoperable pano roof, not liking to watch my paint peeling off my rear and front bumper..not liking to hear the clicking sound from the propeller shaft..not liking the lack of bass in the 14 speaker sound system. Not liking that I can still probably make a decent amount of $$ by selling or trading this thing in, but it will cost a fortune to replace it. :(

Yeah.... I've put almost 40k miles on mine since I bought it & I could sell it for what I paid for it.

And buy what? Even used crap, 3-4 yr old cars are close to original sticker these days.

Yeah, I like scrolling through Carmax app and looking at even a low/mid range Hyundai, and most with basic features, they're pushing $20K++ with 30K+ miles. It's crazy times.

The day after I got my G80, I got out of it in a parking lot, and a lady next to me told me what a nice looking car it was, and asked me what it was.

When we're driving around town, I will point out a car and say to my wife, who's not really into cars, "That's a BMW" (or Mercedes or Lexus or whatever nice car it is) and she says, "Our car looks nicer."

Almost every time we get in the car, she always says what a nice car it is, and says she's glad we bought it. After we discussed getting a new car and what we wanted, I came up with a list of cars to test. We tried a BMW 3 class, and it was nice. We tried a Lexus, and we didn't like it that much. Then we tried a G70, and we thought it was nice, but the ride was a little too choppy. That was the price range we were in, but I said, you know, the G80 costs more, but we ought to try one. We went back and they had a white one and a black one. We had already decided on white so we tried it out. We were in love. It had the prestige package, which put us up into a price area that was a little more than we had discussed spending. But, what the hell, you can't take it with you.

Okay, I'll stop bragging now. :)

It really does....though I could do without the fresh curb rash I got in the Culver's drive-thru this afternoon.
