  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Tell us about your "double-take" moments

Last night I stopped by the liquor store to grab a bottle of wine for dinner. I left my GF in the car. When I came out she said there was a guy who stopped dead looked the car over, drove around to see what it was and gave a thumbs up. When I came out he was still looking at the car as he was walking into the store.

Hi,
Just got a Black 3.8 with premium plus last month. I get stares all over where ever I go. Most envious are the E-class riders. Here are my moments of joy:
1. First day, when I drove the car back to my home from the dealership, stopped at my subdivision security gate, our gurard jumped out of the room--literally jumped out...says" whats that man....Its looks much better than all the Mercs and Beamer". Actually he owns a Lexus GS350.

2.My first day with the car to my work place parking lot. Parked it next to a Merc S550. The guys came and asked me what I am driving? I said "Genesis". He replied " Hummm..the car of the year ?" I said...Oh..yeah. But he was very complimentary, saying this car looks awsome.

3. My friend who owns a Marceratti drove my car last week. He couldn't beleive its a Hyundai. He says the interior feels better than a Mercedes and drives better than a BMW.
I am floored....
Enjoy your Genesis( AKA Baby Bentley...LOL)

Yep, I've heard the mini Bentley comments too. Since mine is rebadged, I usually have to point out the Hyundai logos on the window glass or show them the back of my keyfob to prove it's not.

Also, it's kind of ironic that the brand stigma seems to have the reverse effect. Not only does the Genesis get more compliments and curiosity than the luxe competition, the surprise is genuine.

Having a low-volume car like this is nice in that stands out from everything else. Not in the Pontiac Aztec sort of way, but in a "not yet another 5-Series or E/G/LS sedan of which you see every 10 seconds in LA" sort of way.

I agree with you. Couple of my friends didn't beleive I have a Hyundai...I am not a brand name guy. I could have easily bought a BMW 750Li,which I was actually looking before I found this forum, but the attention I get out of this 35K car is priceless....

I've posted here before about this, but it has gotten out of control here in South Florida lately. Tonight, I was getting gas, and for the 10th time (literally) someone approached me while pumping to discuss the car.

This guy had a BMW 528 coming up on lease. He said his wife drove a 3 Series, and his son has an S and E Class Mercedes. BMW is trying to move him into a Z4 Roadster (which he said he doesn't want), and had seen the Genesis at the Miami Auto Show last year (where I first saw it also).

He got into my car, "test drove" it, loved it, and said he is leasing one next month. He said it is as nice as his son's Mercedes, and $20K less than he paid.

I need to either start selling them or get a commission! -lol :)

There is a heat wave in my area. The hottest in 100 years. Too hot to stay home so me and my wife headed to the shopping mall. A couple of hours later, we came out and saw an older couple circle around my Gen and pointing at various spots on the car. As we walked near the car the gentleman turn and look at me "Is this your car?" I said "Yes!" He said "I hope you don't mind we are admiring your car. I read alot about this car. It is twice as nice as my G37 and alot cheaper." He point to the G35 parked right behind my Gen.

Few days ago I parked near a golf course and noticed a lawn keeper started driving around my car. After few circles he stopped near driver door and motioned as he wanted to talk. So he asked for how long I had it and how engine was doing. He commented - nice car and left. :D

I already had few instances like that....

I have posted before, but this is something happened recently....
I was on my way to work, a Mecedes E350 paases by and the driver , I knew was looking at the trunk badge..now tries to look into the front hood. he gets carried away so much that he didn't notice the car ahead of him stopping...man he almost rear ended the front car.
He rolls down his window and does a army salute to me before speeds off...
One more day, gennie made me proud....

Had my first "WOW, nice car" episode this morning. I was filling up my white/beige 4.6 this morning, after completely detailing it yesterday afternoon so it looked really sharp! A guy pulled up on the other side of the pipe and nearly ran into the curb while he was looking at my car. As soon as he got out of his car to fill up, he looked over and started going on about what a great looking car I had. I said, "Thanks, but the credit really goes to Hyundai. They designed it. I was just smart enough to buy it!" He said that he had a "5" series at home and that he thought the lines on my car were every bit as nice. He just couldn't stop talking about how great the Genesis looked! Nice weekend, we're having!!!

I wasn't driving the Gensis, but I did see a "double take" moment. Black Genesis with the aftermarket badges waiting to turn in the turn lane and a young guy in a newer 7 Series was breakin his neck looking back at it as he passed. Probably tryin to figure out what it was. They sure do get a lot of attention. :D

Another double take moment for me this evening at Lake Minnetonka (MN) were all the crazy rich people with 20,000 square foot homes live.

Drove out of the church that the wedding was at and a bunch of people from the wedding were coming out of the church and saw me driving. Since my windows were down I heard a dude say, "I don't know what that is, but it's pimp!" Than I let the Benley Continental GT and Z06 behind my car have a taste of the MagnaFlow exhaust!

I recently had dinner at a downtown restaurant. When I drove up for the valet parking, the attendant nodded to me and said what a nice car the Genesis is, as he hands me a number to identify which car we drove. Two hours later, as soon as they see us approaching the door to leave, two attendants race off to see which one can bring the car back. They didn't even wait for the stub to identify which car we were driving (and the restaurant was very crowded at the time). It was nice to be recognized by the car. What a great vehicle!

I was walking out of trader joes and i saw an older couple looking at my silver 4.6....as i approached i heard the man telling his wife " i heard these cars are getting great reviews"....as i got closer they backed away and acted like they were not looking at the car......they then got into their mercedes as another two women began admiring my genesis.....i really like having a vehicle that is so striking and unique..............

OK, so I am 3 weeks into Genesis ownership now, one week of which the car was parked while I travelled on business. I've painted the grille, changed the wheels to 19's and tires to 255/40s, tinted the windows, headlamps and taillamps, added mud guards, lots of Zymol, and, of course, the KDM wings front and rear. My wife and I now regularly watch people crane their necks as they pass us. Without exageration, I have had no fewer than a dozen people stop and ask me if I am driving a Bently or Aston-Martin. Only those with some real automotive knowledge recognize it by the "Genesis 4.6" ID I left on the decklid. I now get a serious kick out of playing "20 questions" with people when they ask what it is. The consistent look of amazement when I finally tell them "It's a Hyundai" is absolutely priceless. Can't wait to see things ratchet up when I get the KDM wheel badges.

I think Hyundai is REALLY missing the boat in advertising this automobile... remember all those stupid Microsoft commercials when they were trying to foist off Windows Vista as "Mojave" - same product, only without the stigma of the name. Judging from what I've see n personally, if Hyundai did up a few Geni's with KDM badges and just filmed people's reaction to them from hidden locations, it would make a hell of a TV advertising campaign...

This morning, a lady, whose husband is an ex-Chrysler exec who has a spotless 4-car, air-conditioned, "Taj-garage" containing a hydraulic lift, a pristine Viper, and a pristine Prowler saw my Genesis and asked my wife when I bought the Bentley. She couldn't believe it was a Hyundai.

This afternoon, I exited COSTCO and became very frustrated when the trunk would not open. That's when I discovered that I was trying to open an almost identical Genesis one aisle away. Same color (silver), but this one was a 3.8. Then, I noticed still another silver Genesis in another aisle. Mine was the only one of the three with winged emblems.

Not surprising consider where you live. In LA they are everywhere, and I get asked every other week how I like the car from strangers. I think in a few years this car will be a fixture on the road. It's priced aggressively and high quality, consumers figure things out pretty quickly. It's just the best executed 35k car out there. Are there others that look better, get better mileage, smoother, etc. Yes of course. But ALL things considered, this is the best composite of all things that a car should be.

I got my first comment the other day when I had it parked outside a hotel in Orlando. It's a great feeling telling people it's a Hyundai when they are trying to figure out what they are looking at. I haven't noticed people looking while I'm driving, but that may be because I am just so happy driving it, I don't notice anything else. :-)

My wife and I went to a restaurant at market common in myrtle beach, we backed into a spot right in front of the place, they have a outside seating area. We went inside to be seated in the air conditioning. I could see the top of the car from my seat. People were walking up to the car and talking to the patrons that were sitting close by. that went on for at least an hour. We left went up the street shopping for about an hour and when we came back to the car people were walking away from looking at it. The people sitting outside eating told me that passerby loved my car. People always double take on this machine, It is fantastic so far and I think it will be for years to come. I am glad that we bought this instead of the Lexus.

My most recent double take moment. I was at laundry to pick up my clothes. I see a Lincoln Continental stop by my car. A nice gentleman inside keep looking at my car. When he saw me coming, asked " whats that car?" I said" Its a Genesis, Sir!". He noded and replied" Wow, Mercedes has started making some nice looking car." I humbly said " Its a Hyundai". The next few moments were silent look at each other. He was unable to beleive what I told. "Phhhew...its look amazing"..." How much it costs". I said atleast 20K less than an equvalent MB. I got 2 thumbs up from him before he drove away.

On the way to work this morning I had a BMW 745i drive by me in the left lane and as he passed I could see him slow down and checking out my Genny in his rear view mirrors like he was trying to figure out what it was or he was jealous at how nice it was compared to his Bimmer that's cost him a boatload more :D

I love my Genesis
