  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Tell us about your "double-take" moments

Maybe I am Agent 007

I pulled into a restaurant parking lot yesterday and had to walk between some outdoor tables to get to the door. One table had 3 couples loudly discussing what kind of car my Tau is. One, oriental, man loudly proclaimed "I know what it is, it is an Aston-Martin.

Me and Agent 007 drive them!

I've posted before, but here are a few updates.
1. I was driving in midtown Manhattan with a car full of co-workers on the way to an event, when a taxi pulls up next to us frantically motioning me to roll down the window asking what it was, saying he and his fare thought it was a Rolls.
2. Driving up the Connecticut Pike (I-95) and a car full of guys came up next to me, pulled ahead craning their heads, gave thumbs up and sped off.
3. We have a really good hand car wash nearby, the supervisor drives the car in. When I pull up (pretty often) he's commented a few times its his favorite car - alas I don't get a discount.
4. A few days ago we were riding in a salesman's tour around a timeshare development in Williamsburg VA. He drove near our unit and I said that was my buggy over there. He said he saw it while touring with another couple and they were trying to figure out what it was. The usual Bentley, Rolls, etc. had come up.

I had a guy in a Land Rover pace me for about 3~4 minutes with a puzzled face trying to figure out what kind of car it was. :D

I always get the young crowd speeding up a quarter car length in front of me to look at the front grill. It seems to happen almost every day.

And then there's no identification on the front. I love that every time I see it!!!!!!:grouphug::D

Update....

Coming back from the NY Auto show on Good Friday, driving along the west side highway among mercedes, bmw's, audi's etc, i must have witnessed 5 or 6 instances of drivers speeding up next to me looking at my rear emblem, then speeding in front of me and crouching down to see my front emblem in their rear view, i get nervous sometime that they will hit the person in front of them. This one guy in a mini-van drove along side me from the 70's past 140's looking at my car, started to get a little nervous

I picked up my mom for Easter for a long drive to my cousins house.

...now she wants a V6 Genesis! In the next couple of years shes looking for a pre owned to park next to her 2003 V8 Thunderbird.

Well, I finally spotted another Genesis 3.8 black here in Brunswick County NC which is quite rural and redneck except for the four barrier islands on the south side! This guy and I were trying to get in and out of a small dry cleaner parking lot. We both stopped dead having never seen another Genny much less a black 3.8 identical to our own in this wilderness.

But, the best story: a realtor friend who sells ocean front property [we live ocean front] was telling me about a client who had driven up and down the beach looking "cottages" for sale. He said to Anne [who drives a MB S550, black on black], "Have you seen that nut who lives on the island and parks his black Bentley 250 feet from the ocean every night????"

Guys,

I have laughed and smiled reading all of these posts. To outsiders they must sound like "Dear Penthouse", but I know it to be true. I have had my Genny now only a short two months, but the response to it is truly phenomenal.

The only day I don't get a double take is when she sits in my garage because I am out on my motorcycle. I live in Detoit, and it amazes me that I had seen not one Genny. After I got mine, I saw two, but that is it. In a land of Ford SHO (also a nice lookin car) and MKSs and Lexus/BMW, I am really happy with my decision to get the Genesis. It is like having a one of a kind and the reaction by the masses only reinforces that view.

- Drove into a Best Buy and parked it. A man had parked 3 spaces away from me and had stopped dead in his tracks as I drove by him staring. He was literally standing in the middle of the parking aisle. I got out and he turned his back to me as if looking at something else. I walked by him and he then turned and went straight for the back of the Genny and looked at the wing and then proceeded to check out the interior. It was too funny.

- Nearly tackled by a Infiniti 2010 G37 by a guy and his wife at 11pm to stop. I was in the middle of an intersection and he pulls next to me and asks how I liked it and that he had been considering the Genesis and the G37. Said he wished he had gotten the Genny instead! My dad and I laughed about that one. I thought he was an undercover cop the way he rolled up on us. LOL

- My uncle owns a Jag XF and regularly drives supercars thought it was a BMW when I rolled into his driveway. So confident he was that it was a BMW he didn't even bother to ask what it was until I told him!!

- Guy that manages the car wash says the car is gorgeous.

I have never had this much attention paid to a car before on such a regular basis. It is truly a pleasure to drive and makes you feel like you are hangin out with a superstar!!!

Waiting for a valet at Las Vegas. He parks the Genesis right next to a Bentley. A crowd gathers around the Genesis while the valet stays inside the car and checks everything out, i load the luggage! Then 20 questions from the valet and the people on the street i mean seriously a crowd it was soooo cool!

My 4.6 is parked in a public city parking garage right now.... Valet in Boston sucks.... I told the guy to keep it up front and attempted to give in an extra $20 but he said, "theres no where to keep it up front".

Then I looked around and said, "you're right". Damn!

There was a couple that was looking at my 2009 4.6 black on black while it was parked in a parking lot. As I approached my car, the husband apologized and told me that he wanted to show his wife the $40,000 Hyundai. He asked me how does it ride and I said like a dream. He was amazed with the black noir pearl paint. He walked away smiling and so did I as I got into my car.

I pulled into the CVS parking lot this morning next to a guy in a Pontiac G8. He couldn't see the rear of the car with the Hyundai logo. He said, "what kind of Mercedes is that?" I told him what it is and just waited for "the look".

Arby's - Meridian Mississippi while returning home from Chunky, MS visiting friends.

A yellow school bus of High School baseball players and coaches unloaded.

Talk about a CROWD...My car was backed in so they had full visual of the wing from where they parked the bus.

When we decided we were ready to leave, they were glued to the window as we PIMPED out of the parking lot...nice and slow.

It got so bad that my wife kinda ducked in the seat because of everybody staring. HA!

I LOVE IT!!!

Kind of really not necessary to revive this thread, but I just had to. Had a brand new E350 pull up along side me, motion for me to roll down window. Then asked what kind of car I had. After he asked me whether it was a Hyundai (he pronounced it Hun-dye-aye). Yes, I replied but don't you think it looks like a Bentley? To which he replied, "Yes, it sure does". Now I turned to my wife with a big poop-eating grin and said,"that's another one".
So I believe he may have guessed correctly because of the rear GENESIS on trunk, so I've got to consider removing same.

It's a good thread actually! I find that I get looks or double-takes or even people asking questions so many times that it's almost routine. At least a few times a week..

My cleaning lady arrived at our house as I was getting ready to leave for work. She saw my Genesis in the garage then tracked me down in the house and said "I can't believe how beautiful your new car is."

I have had too many to mention. The funny thing that it didn't start until I put the wings on. I get it all the time now.

A couple of weeks ago, I had just pulled into my parking space at home when the mailman drove up and remarked how nice the Genesis was. I also get admiring looks from the gate guards at Ft Meade when I drive on post.

While stopped at a traffic light today I glanced in the rear view mirror. Behind me was a black Mercedes with two ladies who were both leaning over the dash with their faces practically against the windshield. One of them was pointing at my Genesis wing badge, and I saw the other one mouth the word "Genesis".

The wing badges do get people curious.

While backing out of my office's parking lot I was flagged down by a neighbor. He asked what kind of car I had, and I told him. He said "I absolutely love this car".
