  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Tell us about your "double-take" moments

The other day my wife stopped by at her brother's house. His wife came out and started freaking out about how beautiful the car was and wanting to know whether it was a Bentley. At the same time, a friend of theirs came to pick up his son and the two of them are now walking around the car.

The guy kept saying "It's a Bentley, right?...No..No it's a Rolls, right?"
Finally my wife said it was a Hyundai which was accompanied by the usual "A HYUUUUNNNNDAI?????"

Finally the guy says "Would somebody please tell me why I just spent $60,000 on my Mercedes?"

Ahhhhhhhhh, yes!

I was driving the other day and pass a silver accord. Then I notice him passing by me in the right lane, slowing down behind me, speeding up again, finally I look over when he goes to get past me and he's craning his neck to get a look at the front trying to figure out what kind of car it was. Gotta love it.

I've had three "Bentley" moments to date...

Was in New York City the other day and parked in a garage. Came back to get my car and waited, waited, waited. Several other people who came to retrieve cars after me got their cars. I asked what was going on and was told it was in a difficult place to get. Waited 10 more minutes and attendant returned and said they could not find my car.

I asked if there was a black Bentley parked near where my car was supposed to be. They said yes. I asked if it was a four-door. When they said yes I said bring me the Bentley. They looked at me. I told them a mistake had been made that my car was really a Bentley. So they brought me the "Bentley" and were amazed.

:cool::cool::cool:

The car wash jockey brought my car outside to work on it. I was sitting nearby and a man and woman started arguing. She said it was a Hyundai Genesis and he said "no way - I know my cars and that's a Bentley." This went back and forth while I listened happily. He bet $5 that it was a Bentley. I had to settle the bet with my registration. I laughed. I didn't see the $5 change hands, though.

Have owned a 2009 rebadged Hyundai Genesis 3.8 V6 Sedan for a few months now and thought most of these posts were (to be nice Embellished) bullshit. I am a believer now.

Funny experience at Lunch. I am walking to my car in the parking lot at work and there is this guy bent over looking through my passenger window. He sees me and quickly asks if it my car. I said yes. He said I was just admiring it and that he really liked the looks of it just wanted to see what the interior looked like. I opened the door and showed him. Said he would think about one when his car gets older.
He pointed to his car parked right next to me and it was a 500 series BMW.

Are you still writing letters to Penthouse?

Having owned my Genesis for nearly two years, I don't stop by this site much any more, nor have I looked at this thread in ages, but I gotta pass on an unusual example of a double-take moment. My wife and I were driving to our lake place recently, cruising along on the interstate, and passed a Ford pick-up that was going ~5 MPH slower than we were.

Suddenly the truck passes me again, only to slow down right away. About this time, I'm grumbling that I've hooked up with either a drunk or a kook (or both), but I decide to pass him one more time and hope he'll choose to stay at his current speed.

Nope...before long, we're being passed by this guy again, but as he passes me a second time, he sticks his arm out the window, and there's clearly something black in his hands, pointed at us. My wife notices it first, assumes he's about to shoot at us and promptly ducks below the dash. I took an extra moment to study what he was doing, and finally broke out laughing when I realized he was taking pictures of the car with a cell phone camera!

We ended up seeing the truck about a half-hour later at a rest stop, at which point the owner sought us out and confirmed my theory. He told me he's read a lot about the Genesis, but that mine was the first one he's seen, and he just couldn't resist speeding up and slowing down a few times so he could see it from several vantage points.

My wife was just relieved that we weren't another road rage headline.

I was out washing the Genesis today , my neighbor came over and said
"What a beautiful car, I saw you out side and had to come over and see what it was , is that a honda ?" Any way I told her it was a hyunda Genesis and she said it must be the top of the line. Any way , it was fun talking with her and getting attention for the Handsome Genesis . I like it !!!
ok enought already ,

lol great story. I have had a couple of those recently too, though without the camera aspect.

My secretary, who drives a 2009 BMW 5 series, told me today that when her lease is up she wants to get a Genny. Thought that was pretty interesting to hear, especially since it was totally unsolicited.

Screw that, I want to work at a company where the secretaries can afford BMW 5 Series!!

Sounds much better then it is. Her husband owns a business and she essentially works here to get health care coverage. She drives a better "more expensive" car then almost anyone in the company.

I recently had a guy flag me during rush hour traffic on I-84..."Is that the new Hyundai Genesis"?...That's a pretty sweet looking ride!!' He was driving a Jaguar coupe BTW!!

Was at Walgreen's yesterday and as I walked out, I noticed a couple circling my car. Had a feeling they were trying to figure out what it was. Once they got to the back they looked at the wing on the back and said with a suprise, "Oh! It's a Genesis." The wife then goes, "You have a beautiful car." My old jag never got comments like this...

A few weeks ago I was at a happy hour with the office. I work for an international investment bank in Dallas and the head of the USA department I work for happens to be based in our office. He drives a Mercedes w/ AMG. We pull into the bar around the same time and he sees me park and go inside. From the table I can see him walking up and he's staring at the car trying to figure out what it is. Comes inside, sits down, and says, "That's a fancy car you're driving." I said, "It's a Hyundai." He goes, "Hyudai?! I thought it was a Lexus." The look on his face was priceless. I'm the youngest guy in the office and the tone of his voice when he asked was as if there was no way I could afford a car like this. After he found out it was a hyundai he had such a confused look on his face... as if the whole world just stopped making sense.

Thats great. Being 28 I have had the same such reaction. Gives you a feeling like... ""HAHA you spent too much for your car old fool!"

I say this at least once a week and I usually on drive the Genesis on the weekends!!!!

If anyone goes through the trouble of rebadging, you MUST remove the "GENESIS" chrome letters from the rear of the car. Doing so makes the car completely unidentifiable to the uninitiated. Makes for fun times as my wife and I watch for the perplexed looks and second glances.

Best one yet...we stayed at the Ritz Carleton at Bachelor Gulch near Vail, CO last week. The guard house staff mistook it for a Bentley Continental, because when we drove up to the front door the guy who opens your door and checks you in remarked about the guards error. Awesome. :p

This happens daily with the guy working next door to my Wife. He just does the "pinched smile" with nodding "yes" movement of the head while saying "nice". I feel other words are reserved for his Financial Advisor! Gotta Love It!

So as some of you may have seen from my other post, I just changed out the position light with some LEDs. I did all this in the garage of my apartment complex. I live in a pretty nice high rise with some really nice cars... Maserati, Lambo, etc. So I have the hood up and the airbox pulled out and security comes walking up. Apparently, a resident called concerned that someone was breaking into a Bentley. HA! Now up until now, I never believed anyone could possibly mistake this car for a Bentley. I've heard other forum members claim this but I have always been skeptical. Let's be honest, although the logo is similar, a Bentley has some pretty distinct features. Regardless, it happened and I had a pretty good laugh with the security guard.
