  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Tell us about your "double-take" moments

I hear ya! It's funny how so many people think the Genesis is ugly and "Korean looking" - but this just goes to show how many people think otherwise...

Sal, I haven't heard those comments... sounds like Bimmer sauerkraut to me. This week I had a guy track me down in a gas station convenience store to ask me if that was my car outside. I thought it was a stick-up, but he just couldnt stop following me around talking to me!

I agree with you and most of us here and the Genesis' looks.. These negative comments come from various automotive forums around the net. Mostly jealous GM fans who have nothing like the Genesis to be proud of...

A little while ago while I was stopped at a traffic light (that's where I spend most of my time in any car) a guy pulls up behind me and pulls out his cell phone a starts taking pictures of my car. When the light changed we went our seperate ways. I don't think he realized I saw him. If I was driving any other car I'd be paranoid but I know it was the car he was interested in, not me.

OK. So today I finally picked up my V8 with tech (waitning since July!). This is a great "first meeting" with your new car.

I was just walking into the dealer, and there are two guys "spiralling" my car. I said, So what do you think? The replies are "Man, this is beautiful" to "I gotta get me one of these!"

So the saga begins . .

Great way to start a realationship with a new vehicle!

I'm the new owner of a 4.6 thanks to a 3.6 parked in a neighbor's driveway that showed up about 2 months ago. I would walk past this guy's house and kept walking up to the edge of his driveway to try to determine what kind of car he had purchased...all I knew was that it looked great in the Beamer / Mercedes tradition.

I bumped into my neighbor on a walk about 3 weeks ago (having absolutlely no intention of buying a new car) and he told me the Genesis story...I did my own research for a couple of weeks and last week traded in my Lexus GS 430 for the 4.6. Really happy with my decision so far...hope quality compares over the long term to the L-car, but feature for feature this blows my old GS 430 away.

:welcome:Welcome aboard. Enjoy your new ride. Get your neighbor to join here as well.;)

Pulling out of a parking spot, 50ish guy waves me down tells me what a great car, and that he test drove it and was astounded.

He said goodbye, and got into his Jag XJR!!

I figure if a guy with a $90k Jag was impressed, then this car is OK.

Welcome aboard, newcomers! Thank you for signing up and congratulations on your new Hyundai Genesi! :)

My ultimate double-take moment!
This morning, I dropped off my 4.6 at the dealer for a minor service. Picked up the car early afternoon. Its been raining the past few days but the sun is out today. So, instead of drive straight home I decided to take a short trip on the freeway. Soon after I got onto the on-ramp a RCMP (police) patrol car pull next to my left and motion me to pull to the side. I thought, holly shit, my first ticket.
The officer walked up to my window and ask: “Sir, do you know what you did?”
“Arrrh… too be honest officer, I wasn't aware of I did anything wrong.”
He stared at me and said “Of Course you didn’t! This is an awesome car. You made the right choice. I have only seen a couple of V6s on the road. This is the first V8 I come across.”
Sensing he was in friendly territory I said “Actually, the dealer told me this is the first V8 in this area.”
“OK, you lucky buster. I tell you what we are going to do. I am going to give you 15 seconds of immunity. When you see my headlight flash, floor this baby and we’ll see what she can do. At the end of 15 seconds I will flash my headlight again. You know what to do then.”
“Yes Sir!”
As soon as he flash his headlight it is pedal to the metal time. Boy, time really flies when you are having a good time. I took a quick glance at the speedo when he flashed his headlight again. It was somewhere between 103 to 105 mph.
He pulled up to my side, gave me a thumb’s up and then sped away.
My heart was still pounding long after he disappeared. I stopped by patrol cars many times in the past this is the only time I didn't get a ticket.
This is one unbelievable Sunday!

I'm just amazed the RCMP has moved from horses to cars :D

we were at a gas station and a younger kid was filling up next to us and asked if it was a bentley, I thought that was funny.

I am a bit shocked though at how many people tell me it looks like a chrysler 300c, I dont think it looks anything like the 300c. Its not flattering because I dont think the 300c looks good at all

My favorite double take was when my wife and I pulled into a Starbucks early on a Saturday morning. We have all of the external badging done but at the time, the 'H' was still on the trunk. As we pulled into hte parking lot, I saw two young ladies enjoying a quiet Saturday chat on a beautiful morning, near the spot where we were going to park. I pulled in, and as we got out of our V6, they were laughing and gawking.

"As you pulled in.. we thought you were in a Bentley and we thought were going to see a celeberty!"
The next gal said- "Then we noticed it was one of those new Hyundai Genesis cars."

In a quick moment of brilliance I told them- "Oh you were right the first time. It IS a Bentley, but so people don't think we're pretencious, we put the 'H' on the back!"

I came clean after we all laughed.

Re: Wow !

LOL JO, you are kidding me right?

Is this for real?

Man, you gotta send this story to Reader's Digest...
What a great story !

Yes! It was unbelievable. I am still replaying that scene in my head all evening. I wish I had a passenger in my car at that time to take a video on my cell phone. I was so excited and nervous at the same time I didn't even ask for his name.

Hard to believe isn't it? He had quite a few horses under his disposable, he was driving an unmarked 300C. In my area RCMP can be found in 300C, Mustangs, WRX, even mini vans. They try to blend into the traffic and catch you by surprise.

I took my Genesis to Executive One hand car wash where I work in Newport Beach, CA, last Monday morning. I parked next to the usual thong of Bimmers, Mercs, Lexi, Audis, etc. I went to the office to pay, and the guy says, "What is that? I know my cars but I don't recognize that!"

"It's a Genesis," says I.

"What's a Genesis?"

"Errr, it's the new Hyundai," I admitted.

"Wow! I heard they were coming out with a luxury model - that's really cool looking"

'Nuff said... :D

I forgot to add - this story "floored" me. Hahahahahah

I finally found a V8 in NJ- Black/Black Tech. So off I went to the dealer with wings and hubcaps in hand. The dealership had never heard or seen of the Genesis badges and hub caps so when the detail shop finished the badges the word of mouth spread quickly.
Literally every employee in the dealership and almost all of the customers on the lot came over to look at newly badged 4.6 Tech. There was a crowd of about 28 people in a circle. My daughter was just standing there laughing and said "Only you could find a car that would cause a crowd before you have even driven it."

The dealer immediately wanted the url for the badges and hubs and said they were going to sell these models as "special editions". I do not think I am going to be sending them the urls- I want the only special edition in NJ!

They could not get the hub caps on the 4.6 rims-I'll have to play with that and solicit some advice from the forum. First time I have seen the 4.6 wheels in person. I really like them! I think the Genesis cap will improve the looks but we will see. They appear to be the same size but the dealership employee was relunctant to force them.

On the drive home- 3 thumbs up and 2 window roll downs with a "Is that the new Genesis?".The funniest part of the drive home was a Chrysler 300 driver who immediately had to catch up, stare and then super zoom off with his puff of black smoke to prove his hemi superiority to himself.

We went out for a congratulations dinner and 2 seperate people walked into the restaraunt asking "about the new Bently outside". We all just chuckled...

That was it for day one.

I believe I have read in a different post that you have to use the 17" centercaps on the 18" V8 wheels
