You're certainly entitled to your own opinion, but I think you are in the minority here.

Thank you so much for the tutorial. My 2015 Genesis trunk wing is on the way for my 4 day old caspian black with beige tech package model.

My problem is I am mechanically a bit challenged and do not have a dremel tool. This is the same guy who ripped apart and reassembled 327 cubic inch Chevrolet racing engines in the 60's but has not touched many tools in general since then. Not sure where I would get a dremel and the fittings either without having to buy a new one.

If I were to scratch my new trunk lid trying to save money I would be angry with myself. Your photos are wonderful and make it all look somewhat easy but I am scared I would goof it up somehow.

I have heard that dealerships charge up to $250 to install which sounds off the chart expensive to me considering the part cost ($28) and little labor. Is the $250 number accurate?

Does anyone have any advice? Perhaps I can't have it both ways of safely applied and not high priced. Any ideas about using a body shop?

My dealer wanted $100 part and labor. It was very easy. You dont even need a dremel. A file, knife or even a jigsaw blade would work. It is much easier than it sounds. The fishing line helped a ton! Wors part was getting all the old glue/ adhesive off.

You can purchase the wing with the pegs already removed for $7.00.
I installed mine last weekend, very easy, not much that can go wrong if you have the proper equipment.

You can rent them from some tool shops, home depot, ace hardware, industrial tools, etc. Pretty cheap & should come with bits. That being said - with how cheap they are nowadays - it would be a wise investment to get one, really. I bought mine like 15 years ago and I use it exhaustively for all kinds of stuff. Probably my most useful tool - other than a hammer.

Any ideas about using a body shop? Thanks all.

Where abouts do you live? Perhaps a fellow member can give a hand?

i would happily buy the wings for $7 but i still want someone to install it professionally. $100 seems okay considering the amount i'm going to be spending on the car, tinting, etc.

My experience:
I was intimidated to undertake the removal and application since my mechanical skills are minimal and I did not want to harm my new baby 2015 Genesis w/tech package Caspian black with beige leather.

I followed the tutorial exactly. Went to Walmart, purchased 20 lb test line.
I used a hair dryer which took longer than I expected to soften up existing adhesive...likely a good two minutes. I was probably hesitant with the heat thinking I might harm the paint but not a issue.

Did not need the dowels as I found wrapping the fishing line around my forefingers worked just fine.

Removing the adhesive with goo gone scared me a bit. At first it was a mess of existing adhesive which seemed stubborn to come off. After 4-5 applications of goo gone it began to melt away almost magically.

Even after cleaning the adhesive off and cleaning with alcohol, there was a faint outline of the old flying H in the paint. Very faint but I could see it.
I applied a little car wax and it rubbed out completely.

Used the painters tape and tape measure and it worked like a charm. The left tip of my flying wing is less than one eighth of a inch higher than the right but totally unnoticeable to all except me...ha.

Will the car wax reduce the strength of the bond between the emblem and trunk lid? I was planning on removing the wax before applying the new emblem.

I think that faint outline from the flying H that Jcar mentioned was from previous wax jobs. While removing the badge from my trunk, I also took the time to remove the dealer brand sticker. When finished removing, I noticed a very faint outline where the removed letters used to be. I reasoned that it must be wax, so wiped everything with rubbing alcohol and that stripped the wax and away went the faint outlines. I did the same for where the trunk wings were applied. Stripping the wax over where you apply an adhesive based product is always a good idea. When finished, I did apply a coat of wax to the stripped areas.
Some dealer stickers are really cheap and cheesy looking, so getting rid of those does a lot to improve the appearance of the car, IMHO.

Good point about the wax perhaps weakening the emblem bond. I did think of that and stripped all wax off prior to applying emblem. I found the alcohol did the trick perfectly.

When all said and done, the install looks perfect. I too was frightened at the thought of removing the old flying H and the installation process. It is soooooo easy if you just follow the tutorial step by step. Paying $100-$250 for this is nuts. My dealer has $250 extra marked on the stickers of new Genny's on the lot displaying the wing. Rip off big time IMHO.

Just did the same thing......changed the H and lost the Htrac badge (that felt a little too "mass market AWD" to me,). My process went smooth but took longer due to a colder day. A lot of adhesive was left on the paint. I found using a hair dryer to heat it a bit at a time, then gently rolling it off with my finger, worked well.

The GENESIS and 3.8 give a nice balance to the rear and with the chrome letters and font, I find it adds a bit of class (as much class as a $10 badge can add). The HTRAC was a distraction.

Post a pic so we can troll you about the emblem being uneven lol.
