  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

TUTORIAL: 2015 Genesis trunklid KDM "Wings" Emblem installation

I see you bought yours where I did. :)

I hope you got rid of the ugly dealer advertising license plate frame - otherwise, you might as well have just left the flying H in place... ;)

Does anyone else have a 2016 Gennie? Will be doing my flying H on this Saturday. Had replaced badges on my Sonata Limited Turbo and it was easy. Really like this car, but wish they had 5.0 in AWD.

I do and there are a few other 2016 owners on here as well (all V6's - the 2016 V8 in any drive train has been vaporware so far). Curious - what did you replace the badges on your Sonata Limited Turbo with??

Got a 2016 Pamplona Red Ultimate. Took the H off today using dental floss and a hair dryer. Used my fingernail to get just about all the glue off. Will rub some WD 40 on it and then Isopropol Alcohol on it. My badge comes on Monday.

REplaced the blue 2OT emblem with a really nice Red one that looked a LOT BETTER.

Installed my wings today.
I've never attempted a project like this before, and was a bit apprehensive.
I am a senior citizen (soon to be 69), therefore my apprehension.
I didn't time myself, but I would say it took maybe 45 minutes.
Removing the glue residue was the time killer.
I am glad I did this, as it really dresses up the rear end.
No picture needed, as mine looks the same as all the others :D
Thanks for the pictorial.

My 2015 came with wings so my question is: did they start to make them that way from the factory? Ideally I would like to completely debadge my 5.0 but would like to know if I have to mess with holes or just clean up some adhesive.

No they didn't. A lot of dealers took it upon themselves to do it... and of course upcharge you for it. :)

De-badged the GENESIS, 3.8, dealership logo, and the all important "flying H". Also replaced the dealer tag holders with one I got from Pep Boys with black and chrome border. Matches with the wings nicely.

The flying H was a bit tricky. The wings broke off, as the bars of the H require more heating and my fishing line was cheap and kept breaking. But all in all it wasn't too bad. Put some elbow grease, and some WD-40 to get off the remaining glue. Then rubbing alcohol for the rest. Added the wings, and some wax to the spots I used the alcohol on, and there she is. Clean, and pretty.

This is a fantastic tutorial. Thank you. Like someone else, I had a faint outline from the H after removing it. I tried using isopropyl alcohol to no avail. So, I went ahead and put the wings on the trunk and then waxed the area afterwards. It disappeared instantly. Thanks again for the step by step instructions and the feedback from others! Much appreciated.

Thanks for this thread, the dealer delivered my Genesis yesterday and the trunk emblem also arrived in the mail. $8 shipped from eBay.

Tried using dental floss instead of fishing line, but it broke a few times so I just used the hair dryer a little bit longer and peeled it off with my fingers (wearing gloves of course).

The H logo did leave an outline, but wiping with alcohol cleaned it completely. Aligning the wing emblem took the longest, measuring ten times to make sure it was level.

Changes the look on the car for the better. Once the 2017s come out, I will probably purchase the G80 badge as well.

Re: TUTORIAL: Lighted Genesis Wing Emblem

My first post. Yippee! Bought a 2015 RWD 3.8L Sedan a week ago with 3,000 miles on it.

Has anyone installed the lighted wing emblem (showing up on eBay) on 2015 or 2016 cars?
Looks like the wires come right out of the middle of the wing, meaning:
1. you'd have to drill a hole in the trunk lid, or
2. slice the 3M tape to create a narrow channel for the wires to sneak into an existing hole.
Anyone out there use this lighted emblem? They look OEM.
Pretty neat.

TIA, Rich

BTW, the two pegs are on the emblems so that no "jig" is needed on the assembly line to get the emblem in the correct centered and level location. A jig is needed for the left GENESIS letters and the right 3.8/5.0 numerics, since there are no holes there to locate them correctly on the lid. And the 2 pegs are different size or shape so the factory worker can't put the emblem on up-side-down. The wind swept H looks different inverted. (So does the wing for that matter! but it's a "mind-less" job in the factory.)

Great article, very helpful - just finished the wing installation. I found the use of a washable marker very handy for making centering/positioning marks which were easily removed after installation. Thanks again.
