  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

What was your car before buying G2 genesis 2015 - 2016 ?

Current 2015 3.8 Tech Empire State Gray. I'm loving for my first new from the dealer vehicle.

Previously owned;
2002 Lexus LS430
2003 Toyota Solara
1999 Chevy Silverado 2500

Yes, really.
The car has a lot going for it but it is the roughest riding vehicle on city streets I have ever owned.
Awesome looks, great speed but I just never fell in love with it.
As a matter of fact I made a deal yesterday and will complete it this morning for a loaded Suburban. (used)
Now I guess I will have a vehicle that rides like a truck. lol
See ya down the road.
Earl
P.S.-I just realized the OP was asking owners of 2015 and later.
Sorry OP.

01 Camry CE
07 Camry LE
09 Camry XLE V6
13 Genesis R-spec sedan
current
15 Genesis 5.0 Ultimate

OK - If we're listing all the cars we've owned, get ready, because I started driving in 1973.

1st car I ever owned -1964 Buick Skylark convertible
1975 Dodge Dart Sport
1974 Monte Carlo
1974 Subaru GL coupe
1959 Ford F100 pick up (I still own it)
1983 Plymouth Champ
1990 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS
1994 Ford Probe
1997 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS-T Spyder
2010 Hyundai Genesis Coupe 3.8 GT
2015 Hyundai Genesis 3.8 Ultimate

For several years, while I was in college, I didn't own a car at all, just a motorcycle.

The Ultimate is light years beyond any of these.

There are quite a few previous Acura TL owners here along with myself. Not bashing the Acura but it does not hold a candle to the Genesis.

The Acura TLX was my runner up. Of course, the Genesis won and it wasn't really all that close.

Legally for me, probably 1972, and it was a Chevy Chevelle station-wagon with a 3 on-the-tree. Not so legally, maybe later 60s. (It was a rural area. Farm road, state road, whatever!)

if its coming to acura cars they in the segment called near luxury car

genesis is luxury car as same as BMW and Audi and Mercedes that it have a rear wheel drive chassis that it separate between the two segments beside that the full loaded car and what it has of premium materials

Currently 2016 Genesis 3.8 AWD Ultimate

2011 Acura TL SH-AWD Tech
2009 Acura TL FWD Tech
2006 Accord EX-L V6
2004 Accord LX V6

My cars:
2003 Acura TL
2006 Acura TL

I would disagree with that assessment. Following that logic, my previous Chrysler 300C was also the same as an Audi, BMW or Mercedes-Benz - it was based on a RWD chassis (actually a Mercedes-Benz platform) with a lot of luxury features and an award winning interior. That didn't make it a competitor to the German brands or Lexus.

I would not argue that Genesis is considered "better" than Acura, Infinity, Volvo, Cadillac, or other near luxury brands. That's wishful thinking at best.

Genesis has a long way to go before they pass even Acura or Infinity in the 2nd tier luxury market. Right now all they have are two cars, and I don't think anyone would argue that the Genesis Coupe is a player, it competes with a Mustang or Camaro.

The Genesis appeal right now is value, i.e. much lower cost for upscale content compared with the tier 1 luxury brands from Germany and Lexus.

The Genesis experience doesn't compare with any of these brands, starting with the fact that you buy your Genesis where they also sell Elantra's and other entry level cars.

I like my Genesis a lot, but claiming it competes with any of the established players in the luxury market right now is an overstatement even on the best day.

after looking at what some current genesis owners have owned/leased in the past...i'd say the genesis is definitely a competitor to german and japanese so called premium vehicles!

I guess the question is how you define competition. In image, technology and performance the Genesis does generally not hold a candle to the German offerings. It excels on value - you get a lot of content for a relatively affordable price.

I owned an Audi A8L and an Audi A6 previously - I went the Genesis route because I don't want to spend what Audi asks for their cars - I would not argue that the Genesis is better or even at eye level with the current Audi A6 or BMW 5-series or Mercedes-Benz E-class. Moving from an Acura or Infinity is a lateral move mostly.

I assume the Genesis is a choice based on value for many people, and some of the threads here in the forum seem to support that assumption, based on the pricing discussions that are going on there. I am simply not willing to spend $1,000/month to lease an Audi A6 that is similarly equipped to my Genesis with the Ultimate package, which leases for under $450/month. If the price were closer, the Audi would be in my Garage, no contest. Better technology (full LCD dash, navigation with better Google maps integration, quattro all wheel drive, the list goes on) and better performance (acceleration, and fuel economy), better image (if that's important, for some people it matters).

The German brands are all growing, so Hyundai is not taking significant sales away from them. The Genesis brand (as well as other tier 2 near luxury brands) is appealing to people who are not willing to spend top dollar on a premium brand.

To me the Genesis competes with other luxury brands when people are willing to pay close to the same amount for these cars as they would pay for an equivalent offering from Germany's luxury brands or Lexus. Ask yourself if you would pay $65,000 for a Genesis with the Ultimate package - I know I wouldn't. That doesn't mean the Genesis isn't a good vehicle or excellent value though. I enjoy mine, but I don't pretend that it's something it clearly isn't either. It's "good enough", especially given the price most of us have paid for the car.

to us in saudi arabia money is not a problem i have owned BMW before genesis

and in my opinion it compares to the Germans sound isolation and ride quality and engine power and the interior size

i salled the BMW because i was having so many problems in the transmission and electrical problems too

my friend still have an Audi A7 and since he bought and he have a problems with the engine

Genesis is the upcoming brand that it separated it self from Hyundai we will see G90 and soon G70 and there is a powerful SUV is coming and super car from genesis

Current Car: 2015 Genesis - 3.8 V6 / Signature Package --- so far, absolutely love it.

Previous Cars:
2008 Nissan Altima 3.5L V6 SL Sold at 110,000 miles
1996 Toyota Corolla 1.6L 4-cyl Sold at 155,000 miles

I was about to pull the trigger on a 2015 Lexus GS -- which is what I compared the Genesis to more than any other car. I left Nissan to escape CVTs. My Altima held up well overall, but the transmission started to "rubberband" and "drone" over the last 20,000 miles. The 8-speed in the Genesis puts a smile on my face daily.

Exactly. In my case substitute BMW for Audi. Same story.
